can a yeast infection interfere with a pregnancy test?

I was wondering if anyone knows of any studies on how birth control side effects vary with race?

I'm currently considering contraceptive options.
I'm Asian, and my mom always told me that she gained weight almost immediately when she went on the pill and it was very hard to lose. The same weight gain happened for 4 of my Asian friends, and there's also one who is afraid to use hormone related things because her mother warned her of the same weight gain problem.
On the other hand, many of the caucasian women I've asked about the pill seem to mostly get good results.
I realize that 5 people hardly make it more than mere coincidence, so...

Is there any evidence (formal or anecdotal) that anyone has found that a woman might be more suceptible to weight gain side effects from the pill if she is Asian as opposed to other ethnicities?

Ovcon-35

i looked in the archives and didn't see anything specific to this. if i am incorrect, i am sorry and would you be able to send me the link to the specific post?

anyway... i went to the ob/gyn last week and i asked to take birth control to regulate my period. also, my boyfriend and i will probably be having sex [at some point =)]. anyway, he prescribed me Ovcon-35. i have never heard of this birth control and do not know anyone that is on it. i looked it up online and it looked to me that it was very similar to ortho-novum, but i am not 100% sure. this is my first time ever taking birth control [actually, i haven't started it yet.] but if anyone is on ovcon or has taken it, please give me some feedback on your experiences. thanks!

On monday I had sex (after my period and after curing a yeast infection.. which leaves me a little tender for a few days). It was great. I didn't use any lube and it only felt a little 'off' towards the end. Well afterwards it was like a burning sensation. I got rubbed totally raw. This has happened before, right around the antrance area. Even when I was cleaning myself up a little ball of skin was on the cloth. *oooowwww* I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem. I am totally attracted to this guy. He turns me on like you wouldn't believe. Yet, I don't get really wet. I have had this problem on and off for a while. (the birth of my daughter I believe) Besides using a good lubricant all the time (which we used last night) is there anything else I can do? I don't want him to think that I am not attracted to him or something!

Thank you!

I just wanted to thank everyone who responded to my post about condoms and allergies/bad reactions/pain. I am on the pill, so if i take my pills religiously (i wasn't these last few months, hence using condoms) i will not have to use condoms anymore. Until then i will eliminate spermicide and try your other reccommendations! thank you so much!!!

orgasms

"I have orgasms so easily that for the longest time I didn't even realize they were orgasms. It's not something they teach you in Sex Ed. A women's mags make such a big O fuss that I figured my below-the-belt thumping just meant that I was really turned on. The hard-to-get orgasm had to be on a whole other level than what I've experienced since I was eleven and discovered scrambled soft porn on cable, right? The thought kind of scared me, to tell you the truth. Last year when I over heard Carrie P. describing them as ' waves of sensation so [fucking] intense, so [fucking] insane, they almost hurt [like fucking hell],' I realized I'd been having them all along."

--Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty

Does this experience ring true for anyone else? Did you ever not realize that you were having an orgasm just because you didn't know what they were supposed to feel like? How did you realize that they were orgasms?

I've heard many many people say "you'd know if you had an orgasm" but i wonder after reading this bit in this book, if that's really true.

Any thoughts?

Also, Sloppy Firsts is a teen novel. The narrator in the above passage is a high school age girl, if that affects how you read it.

Well I've been on Depo since January and haven't had a period... only spotting around the time my next shot is due, and occasionally around the time when I would have been on the rag.

Lately I've noticed this... brown discharge... or something... that seems to sit in my vagina. I guess that's pretty normal for Depo, older blood and what-not. The thing is, I don't plan on going off of the shot anytime soon but I was wondering if there were any good ways to clean myself out a bit? I don't know much about douching or anything of the sort.

Does anyone have any helpful suggestions as to what I could do? Thanks so much!

I have a REALLY hard time having orgasms with a guy. I've had one ONCE during vaginal sex. Had quite a few during oral, but only with my ex, and no one since. (No one before, either.) I've had a couple of orgasms with a girl, but most of them have ALL been self-stimulated. This is very disappointing. I want to have really good orgasms with a GUY, dammit.

So does anyone have any tips? This is just starting to suck, since I AM 26... grr.

So I went to a random doctor covered by dad's insurance... and that was pointless too. She agreed with the EMO that "I shouldn't have pain there," and she wanted to put me on birth control. I told her that I already have high levels of estrogen in my system, and that taking any more would make me very sick. She didn't believe me. She also didn't believe I am anemic, hypoglycemic, and that I have CFS... so she's having me re-take a bunch of blood tests that I took like 4 years ago... I already can't afford the tests for the EMO... yet I have to pay to get information that I already know? I just love how doctors assume that you know nothing about your body and treat you like a complete moron, when they in fact seem to have less knolledge in their heads than you (like the doc who told me it progesterone, not estrogen, that is in birth control.)
And after these blood tests are done (because aparently I know NOTHING about my own body,) I am to send them to her and then I have to go hunting for an obgyn anyway. What a waste of cash.

I am really pissed off.

I am SICK of idiot doctors treating me like an idiot. This is my health at stake, and I'm sick of these morons fucking around with it.

i think i've got the beginnings of a yeast infection. the outer edge of my vaginal opening has been a bit itchy for the last few days. maybe a week or so. it's itchier today, so i finally took a mirror down there and noticed a thick (not the consistancy of cottage cheese or yogurt-thick...more like cream of muschroom soup-thick) ivory-colored substance kind of sitting in my vaginal opening. i swabbed with out with a q-tip and cleaned myself up a bit.

does this sound like a yeast infection to anyone else? i'm wondering what the best over-the-counter remedy would be to nip this thing in the bud.

EDIT: after checking webmd, i realize that the only symptoms i show of a yeast infection are the discharge (which isn't even cottag cheesey like the site says a discharge would/should be) and the itchiness. my vagina doesn't appear to be irritated in any other way, and i'm not experiencing any pain or irritation when i urinate.

HOWEVER. i am having weird pee issues -- my urine smells funky (musky and meaty, not like that normal pee smell) and i haven't had the same kind of bladder control since having a UTI three weeks ago.

could this be linked to the funny discharge?

i'm kind of perplexed at all of this, now.

help, please.

I am having serious issues with tampons this month. They don't seem to expand like normal and so I only keep them in for like .. 3 hours tops because they keep leaking. I was using Playtex, but I am trying Tampax right now to see if its different.

What type do you use that works like a charm?

The EVIL FEMALE DOCTOR (see previous entry) forgot to tell me that I'm not supposed to eat 12 hours before getting the blood tests done. So I sat in a lab for nearly 2 hours for nothing and I have to go back in at 7:30 tomorrow morning. Ugh.
Not to mention the fact that I am hypoglycemic and anemic and have really low blood pressure... so the concept of not eating for 12 hours then having lots and lots of blood taken from me probably is not a very healthy one.
*shakes head*
This is becoming almost comical.

Hey everyone. I have a question.
Has anyone ever heard of anything that might cause swelling of the vaginal walls (mainly the front wall)? No pain, no discharge, no other symptoms. Just pressure and discomfort due to swelling.

Lunch in my office is normally very social. There aren't really many places to go nearby to eat without driving there etc. so many of us brown bag and eat in the conference room together. There aren't many men in our office either, but one of them nearly always joins us for lunch.

The other day, it happened to be all women at the table, and the conversation flowed freely...about bras, and pregnancy and birth control and menstruation and all sorts of things we'd likely not discuss in such graphic detail in front of guys. (Admittedly, my workplace is far from normal...our (male) department head is as clued into our menstrual cycles as anyone woman here, among other things.

I told the story of buying my first bra, we shared first experience stories of all sorts, talked about underwear and how you can't really wear a pad with boxers, and so on.

It's those moments that are among those that make me glad for womanhood.

Love her or hate her, Oprah does at times raise some interesting subjects. On today's show, the subject was female sexuality and how women from different generations view each other. The general concensus seemed to be that "older" women (in their 40s and 50s) view "younger" women (in their 20s and 30s) as taking the meaning of sexual revolution and twisting it. The older women who contributed to the program do not think that younger women are sexually liberated, but are just running amok. Premature sexual behavior was left on the back burner, since that's a huge, whole other issue. But some of the issues that were discussed more in-depth were sexual experimentation (with multiple partners, partners of the same sex, etc.), recreational sex, and communication between mothers and daughters.
I wanted to know if we have members here on [livejournal.com profile] vaginapagina who are in their 40s and 50s and how they feel about us 20- and 30-somethings. Vice versa, as well, of course.

How does everyone feel about Yasmin? Most people seem to like it better than other types of the pill. I've never been on any type of medication, so I'm worried about side effects. Of course, I'd like something to affect me as little as possible. I'm also on a diet now, so I'm really concerned about weight gain.

Also, do you suggest a certain type of BC that you'd like to use to the doctor? Or do they pick something for you? I haven't been to the gyno yet, but I'm planning on going soon.

Thank goodness for these communities!

This afternoon my stomach started hurting and I had the urge to urinate an awful lot. Yet when I would try to go only a little bit came out and it has been mixed with blood. The doctors around here are closed until the morning so I can't go until then. I went to the store and bought some AZO to help with the burning and stuff, but does anyone know how long this can take to work? And I have other symptoms of a UTI too...hot & cold chills...the frequent need to go...etc. Can anyone give me any more information on AZO? Will it clear it up by itself or should I see a doctor tomorrow? How long does it take to start working? Please help, I'm scared and freaking out.

This may seem like a really stupid question...

But why do you need to get an internal exam when you become sexually active? I've only been with one person, and I went with him when he got tested for STD's, so he's all clean.

I'm just wondering what else it is they check for when you become sexually active.

Thanks for any responses.

ok, i checked in the archives and didnt see anything similar to this, so, sorry if people ask this all the time...
i think my vagina is going haywire.
i just had a yeast infection (which went away really quickly with an otc treatment), then my outer lips got really really swollen (that has gone down now) and my period is over 3 weeks late.
i've been having pms like symptoms off and on, but no sign of blood
i havent had sex in.. well.. i'm not pregnant :)
i'm not on birth control either, but my period is usually really, really regular anyway.

so what i'm wondering is... has this ever happened to anyone else? i don't have any symptoms that something bigger is wrong, but i dont know if all the little things could actually be signs of a bigger problem.
[identity profile] stellalunatic.livejournal.com
Um, not too vagina-related, but interesting nonetheless...
Get this...
Last year, my kitten had a UTI. Poor thing, he peed all over the place trying to find a soft spot where it wouldn't hurt to pee. Which meant that I did a lot of cleaning up after him...

Within a week, I also had a UTI (not my first). Now when the nurse was asking me the requisite questions, I mentioned that my cat had one, and asked if there was a possibility of contagion between people and animals, she looked at me like a third eye had just sprouted. Now I know pregnant women can catch toxoplasmosis from cats, and people get ringworm from cats, and the flu from pigs via birds. Is it that unheard-of (ok, maybe not unhear-of, but absurd) that I could have caught a UTI from a cat? Has ANYONE ever heard of something like this happening?

i'm supposed to get tested soon for PCOS. i talked to my friend about it and she said that her mom has PCOS and her friend's mom has PCOS, but they both had two children each. i've read that it's the number one cause of infertility. is it possible to have PCOS and still be fertile or is my friend mistaken in her information?

I was watching Oprah today, and she had a guest gyno on. I forgot her name but she wrote the book "What Your Mother Didn't Tell You About Sex" or something like that. And she said that the clitoris is actually 5 inches long.

My reaction was pretty much...."Whosamuhhuh?!"

I did not know this, and I thought I was pretty up on my body!. Are the other five inches inside, or something? Did I mishear what she said? Is there any way to...er, make sure I'm thoroughly using my entire clit?

Thanks gals!
[identity profile] leahmajewski.livejournal.com
Sorry... One more question.

Generally how deep is a woman's vagina? Would it be unnatural for someone of 8 inches to be able to go all the way in?

Thanks.
