Aug. 21st, 2003 11:45 ami think i've got the beginnings of a yeast infection. the outer edge of my vaginal opening has been a bit itchy for the last few days. maybe a week or so. it's itchier today, so i finally took a mirror down there and noticed a thick (not the consistancy of cottage cheese or yogurt-thick...more like cream of muschroom soup-thick) ivory-colored substance kind of sitting in my vaginal opening. i swabbed with out with a q-tip and cleaned myself up a bit.
does this sound like a yeast infection to anyone else? i'm wondering what the best over-the-counter remedy would be to nip this thing in the bud.
EDIT: after checking webmd, i realize that the only symptoms i show of a yeast infection are the discharge (which isn't even cottag cheesey like the site says a discharge would/should be) and the itchiness. my vagina doesn't appear to be irritated in any other way, and i'm not experiencing any pain or irritation when i urinate.
HOWEVER. i am having weird pee issues -- my urine smells funky (musky and meaty, not like that normal pee smell) and i haven't had the same kind of bladder control since having a UTI three weeks ago.
could this be linked to the funny discharge?
i'm kind of perplexed at all of this, now.
help, please.

Date: 2003-08-21 03:36 pm (UTC)the OTC treatment that works best for me is monistat 1. i'm sure any brand of antifungal treatment is just as effective though, but the sooner you use it the better. fire crotch is no fun.

BV is only treatable with medecine, if that's what it is - yeast can be treated in other ways though.

Date: 2003-08-22 01:11 am (UTC)i hadn't even considered BV -- thanks for the input, everyone!
i did call my doctor, but the earliest she could schedule me in was for tuesday, and, guess what -- i leave on monday. so the receptionist told me to show up at 9:30 in the morning tomorrow and sit in the waiting room until maybe my doc or one of her associates could find ten minutes check out my cooch.
SO not the way i wanted to spend my last weekday morning at home (mindless minutes ticking by at the doc's office), but whatever. i'd much rather have a healthy vagina than an infected one.
would BV or a yestie prevent me from having sex in the next couple of days? based on the schedules of the future, the chances are rather slim that my boyfriend and i will ever see each other again after this sunday. so. we basically have plans to go at it like rabbits this weekend. it would SUCK entirely WAY too much if vaginal issues interfered with this. but. you know. health comes first, especially if either of these things could transmit weird issues to his genitalia, too.
thanks again for the input. i adore this community inside and out.

Date: 2003-08-22 01:04 am (UTC)you really don't want to treat a YI and then find out you had BV or stuff, wrong treatment can (worst case) get you vulvodynia which you really don't want to have!!!
