i think i've got the beginnings of a yeast infection. the outer edge of my vaginal opening has been a bit itchy for the last few days. maybe a week or so. it's itchier today, so i finally took a mirror down there and noticed a thick (not the consistancy of cottage cheese or yogurt-thick...more like cream of muschroom soup-thick) ivory-colored substance kind of sitting in my vaginal opening. i swabbed with out with a q-tip and cleaned myself up a bit.

does this sound like a yeast infection to anyone else? i'm wondering what the best over-the-counter remedy would be to nip this thing in the bud.

EDIT: after checking webmd, i realize that the only symptoms i show of a yeast infection are the discharge (which isn't even cottag cheesey like the site says a discharge would/should be) and the itchiness. my vagina doesn't appear to be irritated in any other way, and i'm not experiencing any pain or irritation when i urinate.

HOWEVER. i am having weird pee issues -- my urine smells funky (musky and meaty, not like that normal pee smell) and i haven't had the same kind of bladder control since having a UTI three weeks ago.

could this be linked to the funny discharge?

i'm kind of perplexed at all of this, now.

help, please.

well the symptoms of yeast infections vary from person to person. whenever i get yeast infections the discharge i have is never cottage cheesy-ish, it's more like what you described, just thicker and off white-ish. i also never have any discomfort when i pee during a YI. it sounds like you have a yeast infection. if you aren't positive you can just go to the gyno and find out for sure, but as a yeast infection connesiuer i think that's what you have.

the OTC treatment that works best for me is monistat 1. i'm sure any brand of antifungal treatment is just as effective though, but the sooner you use it the better. fire crotch is no fun.

When I get BV (bacterial vaginosis, a bacterial infection), the discharge looks a lot like that. It also doesn't usually itch, but it does cause pain during sex for me, and that's usually my first clue.

However, it could be yeast, too. My suggestion would be to go see a doctor, since you're having weird urine issues since your UTI and now you've got discharge going on. BV is only treatable with medecine, if that's what it is - yeast can be treated in other ways though.

Did you take an antibiotic for the UTI? This could be the link if it is, in fact, a yeast infection; antibiotics often cause yeast infections (in me at least - both times I have had a UTI, I was in almost immediately afterwards to get treated for yeast). But as someone above said, go in to see for certain that it is not BV.

Good luck!

yes yes it would :( the antibiodics for bv last a week and you arent supposed to have sex the entire time and yeast medicine can last anywhere from 3-7 days too.. its not only the problems of it spreading to him (because condoms can fix that) but its the problems more bacteria can keep it from going away

since you have different symptoms i go with: see a doctor.
you really don't want to treat a YI and then find out you had BV or stuff, wrong treatment can (worst case) get you vulvodynia which you really don't want to have!!!
