Hey everyone!
I posted a few days ago about condoms. I ordered female condoms and skyns. We haven't tried the skyns yet but the female condom is working great.

I know that I was really curious about female condoms and there isn't a ton of info out there besides they rock or they are like having sex with a sandwich bag. I'm hoping I can give my experience and maybe help someone. I tried them for the first time last night. They are definitely a lot different than male condoms. It's a little weird having it hanging outside of the vagina but I just want to say they are pretty awesome. I am having problems with things hurting down there and drying up which causes pain. With the female condom it doesn't hurt. He put lube on himself and we were good to go. The condom kind of shielded my skin from the rubbing. He said that it felt better for him than male condoms too. Just thought I would share my experience for anyone that was interested in them. They really aren't as bad as a lot of online posts say. I actually like them a lot better than male condoms. They can also be put in a few hours before sex. I couldn't find an actual time frame so I emailed the company. This was their response:

Thank you for your interest in the FC2 Female Condom. The FC2 can be inserted up to several hours before sex (2 hours). This time range may expand as further research is collected on the new FC2.

Feel free to contact us if you have further questions. Best, The Female Health Company

Hello, all!

I discovered about two years ago that I have a latex sensitivity and now use only non-latex condoms as my primary form of birth control.

My bf and I have experimented with the lambskin, but we really didn't like them, and moved on to Polysoprine (I'm not sure we've ever tried Polyurethane—is it different?). He is pretty well-endowed and for some reason, it seems like non-latex condoms don't really exist in large sizes!! We use the Lifestyles Skyn Larges, but according to him, the "Large" size is about equal to the regular size of a latex condom (while the Lifestyle Skyn regulars are even tighter). And to make matters worse, it seems like most of the Lifestyles Larges are being taken off the shelves at our nearby drugstores (though we've found a few online), so they might even be discontinued.

I've done some digging into condom sizes, and it actually seems like Lifestyles do run small, and the Large size is about equal to the standard size of a Trojan Supra or Avanti Bare (according to the size chart I found, they are all about 2.2" width. We used to use Trojan Ecstacy for which I am having trouble finding a size chart online, but I believe they were 2.2" at the base but wider at the tip, something like 2.5". Does anyone know of a non-latex condom in a LARGER size?

Thanks for the help!!

So it turns out that I'm allergic to latex, like, no, actually.[1]

As such I'm kinda keen on working out what my options are in terms of non-latex barrier protection.

I'm aware of Pasante Unique[2]; ideally, I'm interested in getting info on as wide a range of sizes etc as possible (and personal recommendations would be great!).

I'm specifically interested in safer sex from an STI point of view (I'm probably infertile; at the moment, people I'm likely to be shagging with relevant equipment have mostly been sterilised) so lambskin aren't a good option[3]. Any other suggestions? Bonus points for things available in the UK (extra points for readily available!) - but I might well be moving continent soon, and this might as well be a more general resource post, so. :-)

Thanks in advance!

[1] I discovered this by handling bike pumps. Hrrgh. etc.
[2] Pasante are AMAZING and not heteronormative and generally fantastic and I strongly recommend them to everyone for everything.
[3] I would plead the vegetarianism thing but, um, given I wear leather shoes... :-p

I have a huge bone to pick with lubricated condoms. They never disclose the ingredients of the lube on them (I gather they're not required to) and naturally that makes me wary of the ingredients. I'm not particularly sensitive to any given ingredient from what I can tell, but I'm hyper vigilant about what goes in/on my body and this nondisclosure is driving me insane.

The closest I can find to good lube ingredients on a prelubricated condom is sir richard's which say they don't contain parabens or glycerine or spermicide (all good things to not have) but even still, they don't disclose everything else and they're ungodly expensive. Kimono plus aqua lube discloses their ingredients obviously because they use a standalone brand of lube on those ones but I'm not okay with those ingredients. And I'm sick of using unlubricated condoms with lube I put on. I wish Sliquid made condoms! Boo!

Alright, rant over :) So yeah, sir richard's is the best I've found so far. Does anyone know of anything better? / no squicky ingredients and full disclosure? Thanks!

Edit: I just emailed Sir Richard's to see if maybe they'd disclose and they replied saying their lube is 100% silicone oil. Not sure how I feel about silicone lube but at least there aren't glaringly bad things in it! So I guess I got to the bottom of my own question, but if anyone knows of any others, I'd love to hear it!

Hello, everyone!

Will using Nuvaring and a condom at the same time increase the chances of the condom breaking? I haven't been able to find anything explicitly stating that it's safe to use both at the same time - the Nuvaring website only says that condoms can be used as a backup method if you start the ring on the second day of your period, etc. and every other reference to using both that I've seen mentions taking the ring out during sex.

I'm looking to use both because I'd feel safer using two methods instead of just one and because I'm worried about the positioning of my ring. While it has never fully fallen out a lot of the time it sits very low, to the point where it's almost (but never quite) poking out of my body. Could this compromise my protection?

Can the condom come off without either of you noticing?

Saturday night my boyfriend and I had sex, and right when he was at the point of ejaculation, I accidentally moved so that his penis slipped out. I quickly reinserted, and when he pulled out again after that I did see that the condom was still on, and that it had caught his bodily fluids. However I am worried that during the quick insertion move it is possible that the condom rolled up or something and that it might have caused me to come into contact with his ejaculate.

I asked whether it was okay, and he assured me it was. We have been dating 8 months, and he knows how paranoid I can be about condom safety because I am not on any hormonal birth control. So I feel sure that he wouldn't tell me it was okay when he thought it wasn't, but that doesn't mean that maybe he didn't notice a problem.

My question is is it possible for condoms to roll up during sex yet still appear correctly worn after?

Is it possible for the ejaculate to leak down the sides? Or does the suction sort of prevent that from happening?

I use a phone app to track my periods and ovulation and according to that, I was in the first day of high fertility with ovulation occurring five days later. Pregnancy can't occur until ovulation, right?

I have a great fear of pregnancy because it's hard for me to rely on condoms alone after being on HBC for about six years. However, I am in my mid twenties now and I worry that prolonged use of the pill will mess with my fertility... even though I know there is not any established link between infertility and birth control use. But I probably won't have children until I'm around 30, and I just don't want to compound my decreasing fertility at that age (yes I know it's not entirely reasonable)... It has already changed the heaviness of my cycle and has not reverted back, even though I've been off the pill since the tail end 2011. Also, due to horrible timing with some debit card issues and having to go out of town I do not have access to my bank account and cannot afford a Plan B so I feel stuck, and all I can do is hope the condom was fine and it didn't somehow squeeze itself out or something.

What do you guys think?

Last night Sarah Weddington gave a talk at my university, and our Students for Choice group set up a table there. We get a bunch of stuff from Planned Parenthood, but this time around we had gotten a BUNCH of female condoms. I had never seen one before, nor had the majority of people there. Luckily someone from PP explained to me how to use one, and I ended up carrying the condom around in my pocket all night, and giving demonstrations! A lot of people had never seen them. So I brought one home to show the boyfriend, and I decided to post a "tutorial" here. This is very picture heavy! And just to note, both condoms were lubed, so my hands are rather shiny here.

For those of you who did not see my previous post; I was searching for vegan non-latex condoms that did not cost $3/condom. I emailed Durex after some lovely people mentioned that the company did in fact have non-latex condoms.

Here was theirreply: )

I just wanted to share this information with others who might be vegan &/or have allergies to latex or casiens.

Happy safer sex! (:

If a condom leaves a red indentation around the base when it's removed, does that mean it's too tight? My boyfriend says they're a bit uncomfortable for him. This is his first time having sex, and he's been lasting way over an hour each time. In theory, that's great for me but at the same time my vagina gets a little tired after so long. He's had to just get himself off afterwards because I'm too orgasmed-out to let him try more. Could the condoms be preventing him from coming if they're too tight? We're using standard lubricated trojans, if that makes any difference.

Thanks for all your help!

And I'm wondering...Is there anything all that great about those new Elexa condoms? I noted that they're marketed towards women and all that, but what's so special and different about them? Also what exactly does it mean when a condom is "ribbed?" Is that like with those little waves through out it? And has anyone had positive/negative experiences with that? I tried studded condoms once and absolutely haaaated it, so I'm just wondering how ribbed ones are for people.
