Hello all,

This is a pretty quick question, but I wanted a second opinion just in case...

I'm traveling to Asia for a week next month, and with the time difference, I would be taking my pill (Yaz) at 1AM (1PM New York time). Since I don't want to wake up in the middle of the night to take it, I want to adjust the time accordingly...

I'm starting a new pack tomorrow. Can I just start taking the pills a few hours earlier (ie. 10AM) without negative effect?

Thanks for any help!

Hello Pagers. (Before we begin; humor is one of my coping mechanisms. I mean no disrespect to anyone else dealing with infertility, the aftermath of miscarriage, etc. with my somewhat casual and irreverent tone. It's just that, at this point, if what I fear is actually reality, I need all the humor I can get.)

So, in the course of the purgatory that has been dealing with my Pandora's Box, I've been changed to Errin (Micronor) from Nuvaring after a miscarriage and then a failed Mirena insertion. (Scary to realize I can sum up the last three years of nightmares with one sentence.) The past two months are the only ones since the miscarriage when I haven't bled in excess of an ounce a day for 4 days every two weeks. IN THEORY (because, with me, there's no telling!) my hormones seem to be leveling out.

But BEFORE all that (two winters ago), I randomly noticed I had a few days where I couldn't squeeze my fists tight enough to open plastic storage containers and just generally lost my grip on things easily. It passed, so I didn't think much of it; I had too much going on working 2 jobs and finishing school. Fast forward to this past summer during the miscarriage fiasco, again, I had a few days of the same pain and some stiffness in the first joints of my hands, but everything else was making me so miserable I didn't really pay attention to it.

And finally a week ago, I noticed it again, radiating up to my elbows, coupled with the same pain in my feet up to my ankles, a low-grade fever, and this time the intensity of it was... I can only sum it up with "it's been interesting" without resorting to profanity.

So, considering my age (32), the stress I've been under with 3 jobs and the search for an upgrade to one of them, my utterly *abysmal* eating habits through the past 6 months, and the 3 generation family history of rheumatoid arthritis, I'm worried.

My question is, now that my hormones are getting leveled out, if this turns out to be RA, what am I looking at in terms of treatment?

Could the HBC be contributing to RA flares, if that's what these are? Am I going to have to try to find *another* form of birth control to keep this pain at bay?

Or, is a diagnosis of RA one more tool in my arsenal in the fight to get myself spayed?

I have an appointment Tuesday afternoon with a GP, and I'm going in prepared to dig in about blood tests including the anti-CCP test that finally diagnosed my father, as well as x-rays and the standard RA panel, mainly because I need to get them done while I still have both symptoms (pain's been about a 4-6 today, no fever, limbs are cold, but I can finally make a fist) and health insurance (which I lose July 1st, hence the job upgrade plans).

Any RA & HBC experienced Pagers with thoughts? Thanks in advance. :)

HBC recs?

Hi VagPag-ers, I come looking for HBC recommendations! Several years ago, I took LoEstrin24 FE, which was a 4 day placebo pill, and it worked AMAZINGLY well for me. I had such short periods, they were predictable (delightful!), and I didn't have any side effects worth noting. The only downside was the price...it was $50/mo, and I couldn't justify that kind of money for BC.

I've also tried the generic Seasonique, but was a bit heavier than just spotting the entire time I was trying to adjust to it, and I gave up.

I just went to the doctor today, and I relayed how much I had liked LoEstrin24, and she prescribed it again, the "generic," though...only there isn't a generic, and it's $110 out of pocket. Can we say NOPE?!

So, I know that everyone's body reacts differently to BC, but I was hoping that maybe there was something similar to the LoEstrin24? Something that has a shorter placebo, maybe?

TIA for any recs!

I'm a virgin, but my boyfriend and I are getting a bit heavier about making out, hands over clothes and under clothes and such. We've had the birth control talk; he's offered to split the cost with me (so it's less of an issue, but still an issue) and we will use condoms on top of it (condoms, of course, will also be split). He has also gone in for a sexual wellness checkup, and was issued a clean bill of health.

I will be going to Planned Parenthood in a week, so I'll talk about options there. I have my little heart set on the shot. I'm looking for something I don't have to muck around with daily (like the pill) and I'd prefer the shot over the NuvaRing (scared of not putting it in correctly). In order of preference, just from reading the PP website and comparing:

1. Shot
2. Ring
3. Patch
4. Pill

I'd much prefer the former two, since I don't have to worry about taking them as often. I also don't like the latter two because of the visible evidence, though I'd take the patch over the pill -- I'm twenty and still have the occasional visit to my parents' place to worry about. I'm not scared of needles.

What is your experience with all of these? Any weight gain with the pill (or any of them)? Difficulties inserting the ring?

I'm really eager on the shot, so I'm interested about it specifically -- I've heard about weight gain and extra body hair from it. How much weight gain? I know about the loss of bone density; I've researched that, and the NIH says it's reversible after you stop taking it, but any personal experiences would be great to know about.

I've also been looking at IUDs, but I plan on studying abroad and will probably have it removed before I go over there. (I may end up in a very Catholic part of the country, and I worry about if it slips or something else happens. The doctors there speak perfect English, certainly, but I don't want to have to deal with talking to my parents/advisers about it.) Same worry with the implant. Also, with the implant, any scarring upon insertion or removal?

Thanks so much for your help! I just like hearing about personal experiences -- you might raise some positives/issues I can discuss with the doctor (I already have my own pros/cons of each as well as questions listed to take to the doctor).

Yesterday my doctor gave me a prescription for Lo Loestrin Fe. This is my first time ever on the pill. He also gave me a sample for 2 months. Being that it's Thanksgiving and I haven't send my prescription into a pharmacy, I don't really have anybody to ask for help, so here I am!

The directions that came with the pills said that I should take the first pill in the first row on the first day of my period. My period ended two days ago. Does this mean that I should wait until the first day of my period to start taking the pill? If not, do I start at the beginning or start a different row?

Maybe I just didn't read far enough back but I have a list of questions that I was curious if y'all minded answering.

Let me start by saying I am a 23yo virgin.  Who has never been had a pelvic exam of any kind and took the pill for all of a week when I turned 18 at mothers request (read force).

Recently I started dating someone who I like quite a bit.  Well more then that.  I want to look into other birth control options besides the pill but I am to chicken to call the doctor and talk to them.  I need a form of birth control that does not have the side effect of blood clots or very low risk.  I am genetically predisposed to them we recently found out.  I would also like it be as effective as possible I really am not ready to be a mom yet.  Basically what are some other options?

I am not opposed to surgical means to stop me from a having a child I just would like to keep the option open for a later time.  Any further information in that area would be well received.

So I have never felt the need to go to the gyno since I don't have any problems.  Also I am very embarrassed and frightened to go.  I guess a personal stigma left over from childhood about no no places.  When should I go?  Should I have already gone?

Also I know that my hymen was at least tore somewhat about five years ago during over aggressive masturbation, there was a little blood/pain and spotting for a few days, is there any chance I still have a hymen?  If so should I expect the same feeling of pain and blood?

If y'all just link me the the proper threads I'll read myself I just didn't see anything right away and kinda chickened out again.  More or less the story of my life.  Any answers are helpful and any questions I can answer if that helps get a better answer.

So as it stands right now, I am set to be on day three of my extremely painful, debilitating period on my wedding day. This, for lack of a better term, freaking sucks. I do not want to be miserable on the happiest day of my life. I tried taking the pill a few times and ended up with horrible headaches and nausea, but I have a few unused packs leftover. How can I reset my period using the pill? I have two months before the big day (June 16th) and I will do whatever it takes to make my period come earlier. Help?

My period has been starting on the 14th and going until the 17th or so for the last few months. I'm on day two right now (the 15th) and expect at least another day and a half. Has anyone had success with doing something like this?

The last thing I need is to end up like the sister on 16 Candles.... :(

Ok so my computer for some strange reason isnt letting me look through the links you fine people have provided, so I am asking my questions here.

I am 30...yep.  I am engaged to be married to a wonderful man whom I have been with for 7 years.  We use my hormonal birthcontrol pill as our only protection.  It is alesse 28 (also known as aviane/lutera).  I have been on this pill for 15 years. Never have had an issue, and we are both std free ect.

I may have had a chemical type pregnancy in my teens, but nothing else, and am a SA survivior.

My questions are as follows:

first of all-- My hubby-to-be and I dont want children.  Not for us. We have dogs :)... so:

1.  I want mirena.  Having never had kids, is it even possible?
2. about mirena, any advice on how to get it? Planned parenthood? trying to get my doc to agree?
3. Implanon- good? bad? ugly?

I am allergic to nickle, so no copper IUD, and no one is going to implant essure without me having kids, so I am looking for long term options that someone will give me!!

Thanks!!

*ETA changed my intro to be more appropriate, and to add that I never intended to offend, I honestly didnt even really think about it, but you all are right, and I need to be more careful!

Nuvaring

I will be starting Nuvaring soon. I have been off hormonal birth control for about two and a half years now. The package says I should wait to start the ring until the first day of my period. I would like to start it before that because I will be using the ring to possibly skip my period. I am on day 25 of my cycle right now and I normally get my period on day 32. Which would be exactly one week from today. Do you think it would be ok for me to put the nuvaring in now? Or should I follow the directions on the package and wait till my period starts? For you information... I am not having sex right now so it is not possible for me to be pregnant. I will be having sex in the very near future which is why I would like to start the nuvaring sooner rather then later. Thank you in advance for any advice you can give me.

I noticed that my backup pack of hbc (Loestrin24) has an expiration date of February 2012, so I want to use it this month so it doesn't go to waste.  I've taken a few pills from this pack (I think I have 19 active pills left in it), so I plan to just stack it and skip the brown pills before starting the next pack.  Anyways, my question is: is hbc that is near the expiration date still as effective?  I feel like the answer is yes, since it hasn't actually expired, but I am nervous and considering using a backup method during this pack.  Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
