i'm supposed to get tested soon for PCOS. i talked to my friend about it and she said that her mom has PCOS and her friend's mom has PCOS, but they both had two children each. i've read that it's the number one cause of infertility. is it possible to have PCOS and still be fertile or is my friend mistaken in her information?

Mine told me that it can/could cause infertility.

She also told me that once my husband and I are ready to try havin gkids, to start immediately after going off of the pill, since my ovualtion may be irregular, rather than waiting for the effects of the pill to be out of your system.

But I won't be trying that for another 2-3 years or so.

PCOS causes some women to stop ovulating, but it's one of the more easily treated causes of infertility. Sometimes weight loss and medications are enough to help a PCOS woman get pregnant.
You might wanna check out http://www.soulcysters.net for lots of advice from others with PCOS.

I have PCOS and a 9 year old daughter. So it doesn't always cause infertility.

I have PCOS and there are very few women who have it who absolutely can't have kids no matter what. PCOS causes three kinds of infertility:

1. Inability to ovulate. This can usually be treated with a variety of medications- some not even traditional fertility medications.

2. Inability to carry to term. There are ways to treat this as well, although it's a little more difficult.

3. I can't remember the other way, but I saw it once in a community I belong to, [livejournal.com profile] pcosupport

You are going to be okay! And remember, anyone who tells you that they know someone with PCOS and you can't this or you can't that...remind them the PCOS is a syndrome which basically means that it's a collection of symptoms that some people have and some people don't and they all fall under the category of PCOS.

I also warn you that you've got a lot of research and reading to do because most doctors are stumped by this illness, but it sounds like you're off to a good start if they already want to test you!

well, pelvic inflammatory disease can cause infertility, but having PID doesn't mean you become infertile, because it only causes infertility if left untreated. Think of PCOS analogously.

my grandmother has PCOS and I have a mom, an aunt and 8 uncles.. there was a miscarriage in there too... so that's 11 children. It depends on the person, and how severe the cysts are. I also have PCOS... and I'm looking to be infertile.. just depends I guess.
