Birth control and race

I was wondering if anyone knows of any studies on how birth control side effects vary with race?

I'm currently considering contraceptive options.
I'm Asian, and my mom always told me that she gained weight almost immediately when she went on the pill and it was very hard to lose. The same weight gain happened for 4 of my Asian friends, and there's also one who is afraid to use hormone related things because her mother warned her of the same weight gain problem.
On the other hand, many of the caucasian women I've asked about the pill seem to mostly get good results.
I realize that 5 people hardly make it more than mere coincidence, so...

Is there any evidence (formal or anecdotal) that anyone has found that a woman might be more suceptible to weight gain side effects from the pill if she is Asian as opposed to other ethnicities?

I come from a pure Hispanic background and well, i started on the pills a few weeks ago and since then I've gained a much needed 2 lbs and my breasts actually fit my bra perfectly now! :)
I'm happy about that...
From what I've read (people's comments in different forums and all), I don't think it affects a race more than another race...I think it just depends on your hormones and such..

i don't know about the side effects, but i wanted to say that when i first saw this post, i thought it was about the racist implementation of the birth control pill when it first came out, and how the president & margaret sanger both wanted the pill to be used only by the non-white and lower classes, but NOT by middle or upper class white people, to prevent "race suicide." they went around door to door in black neighborhoods & told the people they had to take the pill daily or their welfare checks would be revoked. horrible!

I have a 1/4 philippino in me for what it's worth and i haven't gained shit from being on the patch...
I went on steroids though and gained 20lbs in a month, but steroids make everyone gain weight.

Frankly, no. At least nothing formal. Plenty of white women get weight gain, and other nonwhite women as well. I would call that coincidence, honestly.
