Hello everyone.

My SO and I have been researching various forms of birth control and then one day I see a commercial for this strange plastic looking "T" shaped thing, I later learned is a IUD. They never taught me about this stuff in school, so I am curious. I have done a little research and they seem to be effective. But what I really want to know is how they work?

I am aware of the two main types, so I guess I kinda have two questions:

The hormonal type: Where does the hormone (synthetic or otherwise) come from on this little "T"? Is it dipped in it, does it have a supply on board, etc....

The copper type: How does copper stop fertilization? Is copper a snatual spermicide or what?

I have looked at the websites and have no idea still. I don't often visit the OB/GYN, me being male and all, but I figured if anyone would know outside of them, would be this community.

Thanks for the help.

Hellllooo.
I am a concerned 19 year old female as I recently found small, hard bumps under my skin where my ovaries are, however, they are not visible at all you can only feel them. So far I feel 3 on my left and 1 on my right.
Once finding these and doing some research I noticed some other potential symptoms that I brushed off because I have not been eating the best (I'm vegetarian and don't eat junk food, I've been very poor though...)

-I have terrible cramps and have been on and off BC, they're terrible when I'm off BC and have only gotten worse
-My hair has been falling out
-pain during sex
-nausea when hungry or eating??
-bowel problems around period time
-back soreness

Um, pretty concerned these are cysts of some kind, particularly worried it may be endometriosis or polycystic ovarian disease. I have an appointment on Monday, though I'm wondering if anyone has experienced either before or if someone is knowledgeable on the subject?

So last time I went to the my apt, I could not have a pap smear, because of a previous abortion. She didn't wanna do a pap smear, because she was afraid that it would turn out abnormal, because it was too soon after. I made an apt for june 30th and now I realized I'm gonna have my period around that time. I'm on BC now and usually get my period the 29th or the 30. I know I need to keep my apt, which I am deff going to do, but will she still do a pap smear when I have my period? I need that pap smear so she can write me a new prescription  for my BC... if she will not perform the pap smear will she still write me prescription for my BC or atleast give me samples til my next apt?

I recently got a Mirena IUD and I was wondering if it is safe to use a clove of garlic to treat a yeast infection?  I'm assuming it is because it's not going to go into my uterus or anything like that, but I'd like to make sure!  Thanks a bunch!

Sorry if this isn't appropriate for this community. It's the only one I am a member of and trust for this sort of advice.

This is just something I've been curious about for a while.

If I drink (not necessarily to the point of drunkenness, but usually slightly past tipsy), I often find that my sex drive almost disappears. Is this common? It seems strange to me, and none of my friends have mentioned this as a problem for them.

It's not a problem for me, because it rarely works out quite right for the boy when we've been drinking anyhow, which is something that I knew of and expected in men.. but is it normal for women as well?

I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas what could cause it? I'm just sort of curious about the concept of a libido in general and why it can be such a finicky thing.

So got my first wax [was Brazilian] yesterday afternoon. Let it have air for awhile, a bit of witch hazel immediately after and I think a bit of aloe or cocoa butter, I do not recall.

Went out for the evening, and this morning wake up to not only a good deal of pain but many many of my pores deciding to protest their rude treatment by beading up into pimples with a bit of pus under them.

This makes me a very very very sad kitty.

Thoughts on making them go away pronto? Cause well, as much as I'd like my hair down there to grow in softer and thinner and less quickly, I'd much more rather be able to have sex.

Most of the aloe I have is sadly not 100% but the 99% from Trader Joe's...I have some acne creams but have no idea if the skin down there really wants the crazy stuff they put in that. I have some tea tree oil, but also that is a bit harsh...could mix it into cocoa butter perhaps.

I have heard of a product called Tend Skin [though have no idea where to actually get it and have heard it's quite expensive] and I wonder if it's only good for preventing these kinds of things or if it would actually treat the pimples. My skin has an annoying tendency to scar from pimples and so whatever I end up doing I'd so much like it to be quick and just the pimples returning to normal skin instead of going through a long drawn out ugly process and leaving scars on my tender flesh.

Next question: any other lovelies out there had this reaction to their first wax, and if so, how long/many waxes until your skin got used to it and stopped doing this horrible song and dance? Did it ever? Cause if the latter, methinks waxing may not be worth it =\ And I so wish it to be...

I have been throwing up yellow bile everyday for the last month. I was diagnosed with cervical cancer around the same time this started happening. I have been trying to call my doctor, but you know how that goes. Any ideas of what could be happening. I'm starting to get very worried.

so on the 21st i went in for a pap smear. .and everything was all fine until the doctor's office called me back and told me i had a yeast infection. .i was. .pretty confused :/ i had no idea i mean i didn't notice any itching or unusual discharge. .they didn't tell me until about a week later. .and they prescribed fluconazole for it. .i only had to take one pill. .how am i supposed to know if the yeast infections gone or not if i don't have any symptoms? i mean i've have been having more discharge and everything. .but i don't know. i assume it should have cleared up by now. .also four days after i had protected sex. .:/ is there a possibility i made it worse?

Hi, I'm a girl and I go to college and live away from home, so it's inconvenient for me to find the resources or time to wax. I seem to have alot of hair for a female. My facial hair grows pretty quickly. I usually wax at home, and that works pretty well, but my upper lip hair returns after three weeks, and I also have hair on my stomach. Unfortunately, I have dark hair, so it's noticeable. Is this normal? Is it a hormonal issue? Is there a certain hair removal cream or wax or method I could use to impede hair growth altogether, or at least prolong the hair growth period to longer than 4 weeks? It's so inconvenient. Thanks!

I have been involved with http://www.d-mer.org/ for about 6 months after I discovered that what I was feeling during letdown/ nursing wasn't just something bothering me, that it happens to other women also. Knowing that I was not alone has helped a lot. As part of the research process on what causes d-mer and how to treat it we are looking for an adoptive mother who has induced lactation and experienced a depressive milk ejection reflex.

Please, if you know an adoptive mother who has induced lactation and experienced d-mer refer her to the website http://www.d-mer.org/ or have her email alia@rochester.rr.com so that we may be able to figure out a cause and cure for d-mer.

Edit for more info: D-mer is a fairly new topic (well putting a name to the condition is new). Here is a little excerpt from the website's FAQ. There is not a lot of info on this topic, right now everyone is trying to figure out what causes d-mer and what can relieve it. I myself have experienced severe d-mer while nursing my second child who is 15 months old. I breastfeed because I know it is the best for my baby, but d-mer has made my life quite miserable at times. I hope that a cause/cure can be found soon so that nursing a baby can be an enjoyable act for every mother that choses to do so.

What is D-MER?
Depressive Milk Ejective Reflex is a prodromal symptom to a mother's milk ejection reflex. A mother suffering with D-MER will feel negative emotions just prior (30-90 seconds) to the letdown of her milk, whether it be when pumping, when nursing, or spontaneous letdown (milk releasing when not nursing/pumping.) The negative emotions mainly manifest themselves in feelings “in the mother’s stomach.” A hollow feeling, feeling like there is a pit of something in the stomach, or an emotional churning in the stomach. Mothers report varying types of emotions with this, ranging from sadness, irritation, despair, guilt, grief, disappointment, and the list goes on. The common thread though is the wave of negative emotions prior to letdown, that then lifts within another 30-90 seconds, and repeats with each letdown.

What causes D-MER?
We are unsure of this, but we very strongly feel that the findings are telling us that it is physiological, not psychological. Meaning that it is hormones or chemicals in your body, not past experience or repressed memories, that are causing it. The exact cause is unknown, but in preliminary research professionals suspect a hormonal imbalance most likely stemming from the pituitary gland and are looking to blame acute levels of oxytocin, with perhaps oxytocin’s “sister” hormone, vasopressin playing a role as well. It seems highly likely that the amygdala, which is responsible for emotional reactions, get involved as well.

Is D-MER normal?
It is common enough, early numbers are showing 25% of breastfeeding women, and the number may go higher if there weren’t so many women weaning because of D-MER, as these women aren’t included in the sample. But is it normal because it is common? Let’s look at an example; having an allergy is considered common, but allergies are not considered normal. We try to fix allergies, prevent allergies and take meds for allergies. They are uncomfortable and irritating. D-MER is like that. It is common, but not normal. Nature did not intend for mothers to feel upset when feeding their babies, the survival of man kind was dependent on mothers finding breastfeeding enjoyable, or else infants would not have been care for or fed properly.

Who gets D-MER?
We don’t know yet. We’ve looked into birth experience, past history of depression, anxiety or sexual abuse, separation of mother and baby, and other theories. So far it seems like it is just a form of hormonal “russian roulette” with no common link from one mother to a next.

So this isn't vagina related.
But I figured you wonderful gals could help me out.

I plan on going to a water park tomorrow with my best friend. I have a super cute swimsuit that I bought last year and have worn once. Well the one time I wore it, I realized that whenever, I jump in the water, and push off from the side of the pool to swim, my top falls down. Exposing my humongous boobies. I don't have time to go out and buy another suit and the other one I have is way too big on me now. I love the top because it has underwire in it, to give the girls more support. It's not necessarily the whole top that comes down, just the fabric that covers my boobies. The top is the same style as this one. (i can't figure out this damn lj-cut)

My question is, Do any of you ladies know of a quick solution to keep my top up (ex. double sided tape)? I can only find heavy duty double sided tape. And it needs to be something that I can find in the store.

Please help me out!!

p.s. this is my new journal. feel free to add me, I would love new friends :)

Hi!  Another long time reader, first time poster.

I've recently been diagnosed with HPV, and apparently have a lovely batch of pre-cancerous cells lurking around my cervix.  Not a genital wart to be seen, and the doctor tells me that it isn't the warts strain.

[identity profile] saintscribble.livejournal.com
When your doctor says,"If you see or smell smoke, don't worry, that's normal", you know you're in for a really interesting day.

Luckily, my LEEP totally wasn't bad at all, and the only thing that hurt was (ironically) the anesthetic application, and while I had thoughts of BBQ running around in my head, the procedure was done in less than 15 minutes from start to finish and was actually easier than the cryotherapy that I had before. 600mg of ibuprofin does wonders, and only hours later, I am running around normally with minimal pain.

With any luck, this will be the start in a bunch of clear paps from now on, because while I totally love my doc, I'm getting pretty tired of having so many pantsless conversations with her, y'know?

hi everyone

I'm new here so hi:) Here's my question for all of you

I started drinking parsley tea today, currently on my second cup, to jump start a period that's currently 11 days late. I took a pregnancy test Monday when I was a week late and it came out negative so I started the tea today. I don't have any pregnancy symptoms except the missed period but I digress.

I notice now a couple hours after my first cup of tea I have a lot of uterine cramping but no spotting/ or blood yet. Since this is my first experience with parsley tea, have any of you gone through this before your period arrived?

Thanks so much for your help:) This is a great community

Well this yeast infection or BV is still kicking (I won't know the results for a few more days), and my period is coming.

My biggest problem with the infection was that my vulva was itching like crazy, and very tender,  however I didn't notice any big problems vaginally.

Which would be better to use, A pad or tampon?  (I don't have much money so the menstrual cups are out of the question)

I have an Implanon, I can't remember when I had it put in but I know it's scheduled to be removed in 2009. I've had no trouble at all with it, and haven't had periods since before I had it inserted (I was on the depot injection prior to this).
As my periods have traditionally been painful I have no issue with this. In January of this year I had some cramping and light bleeding for a couple of days, and then nothing at all until two days ago I noticed some weird brown discharge. It looked nothing at all like blood, it was mud-brown, jelly like and not very heavy. Then yesterday I started to have period-like cramps. These have continued and are really obnoxious. The discharge itself hasn't become heavier, hasn't changed colour or consistency-if anything it's lighter, it doesn't even require a sanitary towel-not even doing much damage to a small pantyliner-but the pain's pretty bad. Though it may seem worse to me because I haven't had it for a few years, if you get me?

Is this normal? Does the Implanon need changing/replacing/removing or is it something else entirely?

Thanks!

Hey, I just joined and I wanted to get your opinions on my situation.

I'm 20, my boyfriend is 20, we both turn 21 later in the year. We lost our virginity to each other (aww :P) like 10 days ago. I was on my period. The second time we had sex, the condom slid off at some point, but he did not cum before we noticed. Also, I do not use birth control pills, for the record.

I know my chances of being pregnant are very very slim, considering all the factors at play. I've read a lot into this, and read that we would both have to be very fertile for me to be pregnant under these conditions. We don't know how individually fertile we are, but if genetics have anything to do with it, it sounds to me like we are very fertile. His mom had 5 children, some of which even after she had her tubes tied. Twins run in both of our families. I'm adopted so I don't know too much about my medical history, but my birthmother had 5 kids by the time she was 20, including twins.

It has only been 8 days since the time the condom slid off, so I clearly need to wait a while to test. But the idea that I could be pregnant is on my mind constantly. I was reading about some possible early symptoms, but considering my hypochondria, and how early it still is, I assume that even the things I'm feeling are probably all in my head.

I'm kind of getting my hopes up a little.. We were not trying to conceive (obviously, lol) but if I were to get pregnant, we both do want the kid. I have always wanted kids, but the timing is terrible considering both of our financial situations....

Anyways... Before I go rambling about my life story, I'll just leave it at this. I'd like to know what you guys think my chances of being pregnant are.. I need to try to ease my mind until I can test.

Thanks in advance.

I have a pregnant friend and she has pretty bad morning sickness.
She has tried most of the remedies for it, but she is constantly needing to gag.
Any tips or tricks I can tell her? is she one of those doomed to be nauseous people?
or is 11 weeks too early to tell?

she said eating helps, but she is a cna and can't eat every hour while at work.
