Hi, I'm a girl and I go to college and live away from home, so it's inconvenient for me to find the resources or time to wax. I seem to have alot of hair for a female. My facial hair grows pretty quickly. I usually wax at home, and that works pretty well, but my upper lip hair returns after three weeks, and I also have hair on my stomach. Unfortunately, I have dark hair, so it's noticeable. Is this normal? Is it a hormonal issue? Is there a certain hair removal cream or wax or method I could use to impede hair growth altogether, or at least prolong the hair growth period to longer than 4 weeks? It's so inconvenient. Thanks!

take a look and see if anything is similar to your situation.
hair is also a genetic thing so are your family members the same? do the women have darker facial hair? if so it's more than likely to be an inherited thing.

It doesn't really hurt, just kind of pinches a bit, but doesn't irritate.

I'm not sure if the Tweeze could pull hair that thick, but it's worth a try.

There are strips (which irritate my skin, as they're not too far from just doing it with duct tape), microwave wax, and you can even go get your own wax pot and hard wax at a beauty supply place. The pot looks like a teeny li'l crockpot or something, and the wax comes in beads, usually. My roommate does her own waxing, since she's immune-compromised and a cosmetologist, and knows that lots of people's wax pots are unsanitary (double-dipping those wooden applicators is a no-no).
I've had friends who've gotten laser treatments, but you have to be careful where you go. There isn't really any regulatory system for who is allowed to zap your body with lasers, and if done wrong it can cause scarring and discoloration. Ask a dermatologist or doctor in your area who to trust.

Date: 2008-06-06 06:08 pm (UTC)I don't know of anything than can impede hair growth. Jergens sold a lotion that claimed to do that, but it totally didn't work. Maybe wax, then use cream bleach as it grows out, then wax when it's long enough??

Date: 2008-06-06 06:52 pm (UTC)If you're concerned about it, it's certainly not a bad idea to try some hormone testing, but it may very well be perfectly normal. More particularly, the growth you describe doesn't sound abnormal at all -- I don't wax my facial hair (I pluck or shave), but it's usually back within a week.

Date: 2008-06-06 07:30 pm (UTC)I'm Sicilian, and I had really thick eyebrows and a mustache when I was younger, but after waxing for years they don't really grow back. I also have a little bit of hair on my tummy, and my arms are REALLY hairy - but I wax them.
If you want, you can get a wax kit at Sally Beauty Supply, and do it yourself. I think it was like $40 for the heater + wax, and you have to buy applicators and strips, but one tub of wax has lasted me more than 2 years. I recommend the Gigi brand.

Date: 2008-06-06 08:32 pm (UTC)And that's exactly how I felt about waxing my mustache when I was younger - I was like, everyone's gonna be like WTF MUSTACHE GIRL HAS NO MUSTACHE! And they were, for like a day. But I was also in middle school so I think that's why ;]

Date: 2008-06-09 03:46 am (UTC)I don't really know if I would notice if someone else waxed. Which, I guess, means that if you want to do it.. maybe no one will be like WHERE DID IT GO.. but also might mean it's a waste of money. Depends on how much you really want to have hairless arms!
