Hi, I'm a girl and I go to college and live away from home, so it's inconvenient for me to find the resources or time to wax. I seem to have alot of hair for a female. My facial hair grows pretty quickly. I usually wax at home, and that works pretty well, but my upper lip hair returns after three weeks, and I also have hair on my stomach. Unfortunately, I have dark hair, so it's noticeable. Is this normal? Is it a hormonal issue? Is there a certain hair removal cream or wax or method I could use to impede hair growth altogether, or at least prolong the hair growth period to longer than 4 weeks? It's so inconvenient. Thanks!

it could definitely be a hormone issue. have you been tested for pcos or know about it?

it's a problem with your hormones but it affects a lot of different things and excessive hair grown particuarlly in "male" areas like the face can be a symptom.

take a look and see if anything is similar to your situation.

hair is also a genetic thing so are your family members the same? do the women have darker facial hair? if so it's more than likely to be an inherited thing.

it might be worth asking your doctor to run your hormone levels just to check that out.

It might be a hormonal tihng.
I used to use my inhaler for my asthma like crazy.
Now I have a little moustache...

I also had hair bellow and around my belly button, before getting it lazered. According to by gyno belly hair is VERY common and most women have it.

I have belly hair! It is mostly peach fuzz but I am Italian so it can get pretty dark.

I also have a little bit of upper lip hair. I just wax or pluck.

Also, a method I like better than waxing or creams (they dry out my skin) is using this little device called the Tweeze. You can buy it at a drug store for around $20 and it is essentially just a high powerred tweezer that plucks everything very quickly.

It doesn't really hurt, just kind of pinches a bit, but doesn't irritate.

Is this safe for your lady bits?

I've never used this on my lady bits, although I imagine it would be similar to plucking.

If you pluck all of your pubic hair you get little spots of blood are some mild irritation.

I'm not sure if the Tweeze could pull hair that thick, but it's worth a try.

Unless you have some kind of other symptoms, I don't think anything is wrong with you. Some folks, myself included, are just fuzzy. Besides the "treasure trail," I've got a fuzzy chin, and now that I'm hitting my mid-30's, a few dark hairs are creeping into my peach fuzz. I get a few stray nipple hairs that I just pluck. Plus, I'm skim-milk blue-white pale with crazy dark hair.

You can also do your own waxing for touch-ups. There are strips (which irritate my skin, as they're not too far from just doing it with duct tape), microwave wax, and you can even go get your own wax pot and hard wax at a beauty supply place. The pot looks like a teeny li'l crockpot or something, and the wax comes in beads, usually. My roommate does her own waxing, since she's immune-compromised and a cosmetologist, and knows that lots of people's wax pots are unsanitary (double-dipping those wooden applicators is a no-no).

I've had friends who've gotten laser treatments, but you have to be careful where you go. There isn't really any regulatory system for who is allowed to zap your body with lasers, and if done wrong it can cause scarring and discoloration. Ask a dermatologist or doctor in your area who to trust.

I have a little happy trail too -- it's something that a lot of women get, so I wouldn't worry about it. I was having some small problems with upper lip hair until my hormones got back under control, and I just used Sally Hansen cream bleach.

I don't know of anything than can impede hair growth. Jergens sold a lotion that claimed to do that, but it totally didn't work. Maybe wax, then use cream bleach as it grows out, then wax when it's long enough??

Yeah, I think it's normal, especially the fact that it grows back in about 4 weeks--most places expect you to schedule waxing appointments every 3-4 weeks.

It could be a hormone issue, but it also could be really normal. I have dark body hair, and lots of it; I get dark hair on my breasts, lip, chin, cheeks, and butt... and I get a treasure trail. :) No hormonal issues here, I'm just a naturally hairy girl.

If you're concerned about it, it's certainly not a bad idea to try some hormone testing, but it may very well be perfectly normal. More particularly, the growth you describe doesn't sound abnormal at all -- I don't wax my facial hair (I pluck or shave), but it's usually back within a week.

I think it has more to do with your ethnicity and genetics than an actual disease. Many women have hair ALL OVER, you just wouldn't know it because they remove it.

I'm Sicilian, and I had really thick eyebrows and a mustache when I was younger, but after waxing for years they don't really grow back. I also have a little bit of hair on my tummy, and my arms are REALLY hairy - but I wax them.

If you want, you can get a wax kit at Sally Beauty Supply, and do it yourself. I think it was like $40 for the heater + wax, and you have to buy applicators and strips, but one tub of wax has lasted me more than 2 years. I recommend the Gigi brand.

Oh no, I actually don't, because then it grows in all spiky looking, lol. I just got sick of how incredibly hairy mine were, but I have issues with body hair haha.

And that's exactly how I felt about waxing my mustache when I was younger - I was like, everyone's gonna be like WTF MUSTACHE GIRL HAS NO MUSTACHE! And they were, for like a day. But I was also in middle school so I think that's why ;]

i have hairy arms too =(

i used to wax for about 3 years and then i stopped... i think that was a little more noticeable as i was just starting college when i began waxing. the people i've known since then noticed when i came back to college after summer break with hairy arms =/

I have longer and darker arm hair than my boyfriend. He's all light skinned light haired and I'm like HAI KAN U TELL MAI DADZ EUROPEAN. To me, waxing or any other type of hair removal would be too much of a hassle for arm hair. Arm hair isn't that big of a deal to me.
I don't really know if I would notice if someone else waxed. Which, I guess, means that if you want to do it.. maybe no one will be like WHERE DID IT GO.. but also might mean it's a waste of money. Depends on how much you really want to have hairless arms!

Nothing abnormal about it. My whole family is very hair (practically full blooded German. Aparently we're very hairy people). Oh I wish I could afford to get it all lazered off.

It's probably perfectly normal. I have some soft fuzz on my belly, and between my breasts, hardly visible, but I do get quite visible hair on my upper lip, me being as snow white as only Scandinavians can get, and having almost black hair - I shave that away.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who uses a razor on my face! I used to be really self conscious about it, but it seems like wax never grabs any of the hairs (even when it grows out!), and plucking would take waaaay too long. I've always been most satisfied using a little bikini razor on my upper lip.

There are wax strips you can get that are made for removing facial hair, that grabs onto shorter hair. The reason I don't wax is that it bloody well hurts ;p
