Damn, I was stupid. I got cellulitis once and needed antibiotics and used a condom. Then I got cellulitis again - and forgot the condom the entire two weeks I was using the antibiotic. On the last day of taking I looked at my boyfriend and said "SHIT SHIT SHIT!" because we BOTH forgot and we're usually careful.

I'm on depo and since I've had cervical cancer, I'm not very fertile to begin with BUT:

I don't have periods. I want to do a pregnancy test but I don't know when I should since I... don't have periods. "3 days after your missed period"... well I've missed the last 38!

It's been four days since the last time I had sex (luckily I'm visiting America and he's staying in Australia, so we're sex free for at least two weeks - plus I'm healed and off the antibiotics now).... is that... a good time? o.O;

When should I test for pregnancy? And with Depo, is it really that much of a difference? My doctor said it shouldn't matter (I asked the first time when I used condoms) but to use protection anyway.

When should I do a pregnancy test?

I'm only in America for two weeks and if I'm pregnant, I would like an abortion. I have free medical in America (but not in Australia) and would like to take advantage of that while I'm here. How soon can one schedule an abortion after discovering her pregnancy?

And, yes, both my boyfriend and I knew we were stupid; we honestly just REALLY forgot antibiotics did that. u_u Ugh.

And for future reference: When's a good time to have unprotected (no condom) sex after taking antibiotics while on Depo? A week after the last antibiotic? A day?

Good Morning VP-ers...I often comment to people that they should be taking a multi with folic acid before ttc...I sound like a broken record sometimes, I try to comment to each person saying they are ttc and tell them to take a multi..why? My son has spina bifida, a neural tube defect that is almost always preventable by taking an adequate dose of folic acid three months before conception and throughout the pregnancy. In our case, the doctors still don't know why Gabe was born with SB, but he is guessing that the bc pill I was on caused some interaction with the folic acid I was taking at the time. The following links contain articles about folic acid and hbc interaction, as well as the importance of folic acid and what Spina Bifida is. I hope that this info is interesting, if not helpful to some of you...

I hope this type of post is allowed, I would love to see the responses.

In your opinion what are the best, most interesting, thought provoking, information books about women's minds, body's and/or reproductive health that you've read? What are the books you think every woman should own, read and pass on to other women?

If you could get copies of those books to give to every woman, young and old which books would they be?

If you can, try to include a link so everyone can see what the book is about, or you can write about why you loved those books so much.

Mine are here )

This is more of a discussion question than anything... I was reading Inga Muscio's "Cunt" (which I heard of through the community info!) at the bookstore yesterday and got through most of the section on periods. I had to tear myself away to pick my mom up from work and I was too broke to buy it and the tons of other feminist books that looked so interesting! :( Haha, but anyway.. I thought it was really interesting that she talked about and criticized the male medical view that the pain caused by periods is "all in women's heads" (which we all know isn't true anyway), but then she turned around and said something that I thought was a similar concept, that loving your period will make the pain go away. Huh?? She also says that PMS often happens because women are taught to hate their periods, and draws an analogy- if guys were taught their entire lives to hate the fact that they got erections, they'd be pissy whenever that happened too. Again- huh??

Looking back on my own personal experiences, I've never had debilitating cramps- in fact, I never even had cramps, I usually get back pain instead- but the pain was much worse when I was 14 or so, when I was still getting used to having my period. I remember sitting in my freshman history class hunched over the desk, too miserable to listen to what the teacher was saying. And now that I think about it, that was a time in my life when I was really unhappy with myself and my body. I never hated my period, but I didn't really care much about it either way. Now, at age 19, I barely have any period pain at all except a tendency to get sore much more quickly if walking or standing for a long time, and I'm wondering if my earlier pain was somehow related to my self-image, or if it was just that I was so young and my body was still adjusting. It was something I'd wondered about before I read the book, but I thought perhaps it was just in my case that the pain was somewhat psychological, because like I said, my pain has never been that bad and I'm sure there are many many cases where it's very real and unavoidable.

Anyway, I guess I'm just wondering what you guys think of Muscio's statements, or if you have any experiences that match up (or don't match up). I do like the book as a whole and I think it's totally important to love your body and yourself, but I'm not sure if the correlation between that and actual physical pain is really so strong.

I started taking the birth control pill earlier this month. I had been on the patch previously for about a year, stopped using it for a few months while my boyfriend was away, and decided on trying the pill out after. I've been on the pill for almost a month now, and have been having unprotected sex several times a day for a little over a week now with said boyfriend. I've been trying to take the pill around the same time each day, but have had some days where the timing was pretty off. Now, my current concern is that my period, which came 2 days earlier than it did last month, only lasted for 1 day before disappearing completely. I still feel slight cramps, just no bleeding. This may be a silly question, but could this mean that i'm pregnant?

I appreciate any comments or help. Thank you! :)

I'm fighting a yeast infection and want to do a grapefruit seed extract douche. My question is, how do I actually douche? What can I use? I don't want to buy a pre-made douche and throw that out if I don't have to, since I'd much rather not support the product by buying it. Any advice?

Hi everybody. =) I'm in need of some advice concerning my Divacup.

I've been using it since April or so, and I really like it. =) Problem is, my last few cycles I've had some major leaks. It only happens once a day or so, and it doesn't matter how heavy my flow is, so I think the leaks have something to do with the way I'm inserting the cup.

I fold it into a U shape, and then put it in with the bottom side of the U facing upwards. I push it in as far as I can, and then I'm ready to go. Is there anything I'm doing wrong, or any tips to keep in mind while I'm inserting? Thanks so much.

(crossposted to [livejournal.com profile] vaginapagina, [livejournal.com profile] menstrual_cups, and [livejournal.com profile] divacup)

[EDIT] Problem solved. I stuck my finger in to rotate the cup last time I put it in, and I felt it open up. No leakage! =D Thanks for all the advice.

Oh, right. I'm a month-over-14 year old girl.

Um, I'm going to a four-day camp on Monday, and I'm excepting my period to still be here when we go [I got it on Monday, last week, but mine always last awhile, and right now it seems like it's still going to be here..] and we're going to be swimming a lot..

..And my problem, I guess, is that I've never used a tampon before.. and I've tired to use them before.. and I can't. Is there anything I can try doing? Something I'm doing wrong, perhaps?

Any type of help, or anything, would be appreaciated..

Edit I've read all the comments, and I wouldn't know what to say to most of you, other then thank you. I think my first problem trying to use one, was not talking to my mom, or anything, first, and just stealing one from her, and trying to do it. Haha. But, thank you all for your comments, and they are VERY appreaciated.

i posted a while ago about me umm 'doing stuff' with a guy from australia while i was in montreal for a few days...
i went to the doctor and he told me that he thinks i probably would have remembered if we had sex (i really don't think we did) since it was my first time...and that i shouldn't be worried about getting pregnant since i took the morning after pill. he also said that i have a very low risk of getting any std (he said, almost negligible) and he said he's not worried about me. if i said i didn't want the tests, he said he'd be fine with it. i am going to take the tests because i'm afraid not to, and i just want to be sure. i have to wait another 2-3 weeks for the hiv/hepatitis tests, but i am going to have the vaginal swab on thursday. i realize my risks are really low, but i am still scared out of my mind with the 'what ifs' just because i didn't know him and i have no way of contacting him now. i don't know how many sexual partners he had or anything. i completely trust my doctor and i am glad to hear i have hardly any risk...i mean i met girls up there who have sex with different people unprotected all the time. they don't worry about it at all - i mean i think they should. i did this ONE thing and i am going out of my mind.
i was just wondering if anyone had any advice on how to deal with this. i feel like i can't enjoy anything fully because it's always on the back of my mind - the 'what if'. i know my risk is sooo low but still. i am a worrier. i just wanted this summer to be great and now i have this on my mind all the time. i feel horrible.
thanks.

My male friends and I where talking about women being multi-orgasmic. I know this is rare for a woman to be this way. I can't find a website with any facts about it, can anyone direct me to a good resource?

i'm on the progestogen-only pill Cerazette, and had my bag containing my pills stolen last sunday. i was a week into my third month of taking the pill and due to losing my pills missed sundays pill completely. because i missed sundays pill and had sex on the previous saturday my doctor gave me the morning after pill on the monday. since then i've been experiencing almost-continuous dizziness and as i do a lot of performing it's rather difficult, as standing up for longer than five minutes causes me to become extremely dizzy. could this be an adverse reaction to the morning after pill? i'm unsure whether to go back to my doctor or leave it for a while and see if it goes away?
thanks for any advice.

Over the past few weeks, I've been noticing that my vaginal discharge odour has changed. It's definitely stronger, and has a very sweet undertone to it. When it dries, it has a hint of ammonia. As well, my labia minora have been somewhat swollen. There has been more smegma than usual, too. There is no noticeable burn or itch, but I have a permanent bladder condition that has my urethra burning 24/7, so that could be "drowning out" any burning sensation in my vagina. Around my anus, however, the skin is always burning and itchy lately; this is a new symptom.

My first guess was a yeast infection that has spread to my anus as well, but there are no typical yeast infection signs (I've had them a few times before). It doesn't sound to me like BV, either, but I've never had it before (to my knowledge), so I'm not sure. I'm going in to get full STD tests and such on Tuesday), but until then, any guesses as to what this could be? Are these symptoms ringing any bells? It's getting rather annoying.

Thanks! :)

Oh Crap...

I've missed two of my dark blue active pills on Ortho Tricyclen Low.

I went to the website and it just confused me even more...

I have yet to take my pill for today.  And I started having dark brown discharge earlier this week  And last night my discharge was more  period colored and normal.  This discharge has been on and off all day.

I skipped last month's period also using HBC...If that makes a difference.

So...what do I do?

PS: I am not sexually active, so you don't have to worry about that factor.

Thank you!

Hello everyone!
I just joined this community not even a minuet ago but I already have a question!
Here it goes.

My period only last for 2 nights.
3 at the most.
My friends' last 5 nights.
I never experience cramps.
Ever.
My friends get cramps so bad, they throw up and stuff.

Is there something wrong with me?

Just a quick concern. I hooked up with this guy last night, and he tried to finger me, but every time hee tried to put his fingers inside, it REALLY hurt. I've been fingered before by a different guy, so I dunno what the problem is.

If it makes any difference, I'm fifteen. and I'd had a fair bit to drink (I know, I know, it's bad. I was celebrating end of exams)

any feedback would be appreciated.

Hey everyone. I have three random questions which (I think/hope) are pretty unrelated.

The first is about orgasms, in response to the multiple orgasm post below. Forget multiple orgams; are there women who simply can't orgasm from intercourse? It took my current boyfriend 3 months of trying, but (unlike those before him) he succeeded orally and we haven't had much of a problem with that since. Vaginal, on the other hand, usually feels nice, but I've never felt orgasmy, if that makes since. Are there a lot of women like that?

Question number two... anal... any ways to make it less uncomfortable?

And question number three... sex has always been pretty painful for me. Mostly sort of a stinging kind of pain; we have to stop somewhat often, and the only way to make it stop hurting is usually to take a bath (the hot water seems to help a lot). I've gotten it checked out, but haven't gotten any good answers. It's not BV, 90% chance it's not endometriosis, etc. Could it just be that my boyfriend's a bit, well, large? Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I have been researching stuff on the internet about women who still get periods when they're pregnant and i'm stressing like no other! I had sex on May 5th, without protection, but he did not ejaculate at all. I was still worried because of the whole "pre cum" issue on whether or not a girl can get pregnant from that or not. So, sex on May 5th and I got my period on May 29th. It wasnt just spotting, it was a heavy duty bleeding period as usual. Does this mean I'm totally in the clear? Or should I get a test?

I know that I could probably find the answers to some of these in other places, but I always find you all very helpful so I'd rather ask here. Plus, I can get more straight, personal answers. Hope that's okay. (Edit: Oh yea, I also do that thing where I read something and assume the worst. Every time I read something about bad things that can happen down there, I think I have it.)

Background:
I'm 16. I've been 'sexually active' for a little less than a year, but intercourse for 4 months (March), with only one guy. He's been with other girls, I'm not sure how many. We don't use condoms, I'm on the pill (since December), but we've both been tested and are std-free.

I've been the to gynecologist three times. All three times I've had a pelvic exam, but not a pap smear. The second time I was there I told them I'd had sex, and they told me I need to wait three years to have a pap because it would be abnormal.

I've heard 18 or sexually active, when you're on the pill, when you're 21, and now three years after sex. What is it? Is it different for everyone? What if someone has cancer-causing hpv, wouldn't waiting just allow the cancer to progress?

I'm worried about hpv. I know there's a good chance of me having it, since I'm sexually active with a non-virgin, because of how common it is. Am I right?

If you have an abnormal pap due to hpv, and it's eventually normal (however it is that happens), can you get it again by having sex with the same person? Or does it clear up in them too? I know guys don't get symptoms unless it's the wart-causing strain, so does the virus just "take it's course" and neither has to worry about it again (if they stay monogamous)? I'm confused about all of this.

I'll be calling my doctor, and seeing if I even need to schedule a pap smear, but I can't call until Monday, and with Planned Parenthood I have to wait until the doctor calls me back.

So if anyone can provide information that I need to know (not everything ever about hpv, that's why I didn't just look it up somewhere), that would be really helpful. Thanks!!! (And I really hope I didn't let this get too long winded, I do that.)

I don't know if anyone can really answer this... But I wonder if anyone has a scientific explanation...
