artificialmuse.livejournal.comI just came back from my appointment at the local women's health clinic here in Charleston, SC. I went to change my BC, as I'm currently on Ortho Evra, and my family has a history of blood clots (not to mention the fact that apparently hot climates make the absorption of the hormones faster than it should be, and Charleston is already in the 70s). I initially, and still do, wanted an IUD. However, when I was talking to the nursing assistant, she stuck her nose up in the air and said, "we can't insert those unless your uterus has opened from childbirth". She even refused to believe that women who had not given birth have had them inserted at any other facility.
The nurse was fantastic, though--she even went so far as to print off a list of immunization requirements and whatnot for me when I told her I'm going to Turkey this May. She said that it is impossible to get an IUD from a public clinic in SC due to laws barring them. She also said that up until the past couple of years, if a woman wanted to be sterilized, she had to a) be 23, b) have at least one child, and c) (this is the kicker) she had to have the consent and signature of her husband. if she did not have a husband, she could not receive the tubal (at least, not from public clinics). It's rather unsettling how strict policies are concernng a woman's reproductive area.
Anyway, I'll continue with my questions.
I'm to start Orthocyclen (the monophasic pill, as I'm on Synthroid and take Bactrim daily due to UTIs) next Saturday at the beginning of my period. Has anyone here switched from the patch to this? Were the side-effects noticable? I'm kind of wary, as the patch is the only method I've been on, and haven't really had much in the way of adverse effects.
