New patch info

Many of us patch users have heard the FDA's warnings about the patch and the increased risk of blood clots. But now the makers of Ortho Evra have done their own study. Here's the link.

okay, so the AP said, originally, that the risk was 3x that of the pill... this is only 2x... i think those are odds i can live with, considering it's all pretty damn low to begin with...

Yeah I agree. I love my patch and it works well for me. I see no reason to change unless people start dropping like flies and I highly doubt that's gonna happen.

However, I really wouldn't place a *whole* lot of trust in a study on the safety of a product done by the people who want you to buy that product.

i don't think they want their asses sued. i mean, i understand your skepticism, but their findings aren't "everything's fine, la la la" it's just that the risk is between that of the pill and what the AP reported.

and i might add that the AP's study was done by a bunch of journalists. I'm a journalist; I don't trust myself with medical statistics. :) i know there is inherent bias in a drug company doing their own study, but at least they're medical professionals.

The patch works for me quite better than the pill. Like you said, if people start dropping like flies, then I'll have to look into other alternatives. I can't take the pill because 1) makes me very sick 2) I do forget to take it at times.

Again the patch is just a wonderful thing and I wished they came out with it back in 1994 when I was on the pill for my periods.
