Mystery illness?

I'm really worried because I called home today (I'm in college) and my mom said that she'd been to the doctor about some vaginal infection that had given her a 103 degree fever.
The problem is, my mom doesn't speak very good English, so she didn't catch anything the doctor said about what was wrong with her. And I obviously really want to know so I know how bad/not bad it is. So, if any of you can help me out, I'd appreciate it so much!
This is what happened:
A few days ago, she got a really infected boil like growth on her vulva (near her inner labia). It caused her so much pain that she went to the ER, where the doctor lanced it and drained the boil. He told her that it might be due to some sort of fluid collecting inside her (she doesn't remember where: vagina or uterus etc). All she remembers is that the fluid name starts with an "N". The doctor said that this happens with menopausal women, and he put some sort of balloon inside her to drain the fluid (he also had to cut open her vaginal opening to do it evidently becuase it was too small). He also said that there's a chance they may have to remove a tumor of some sort that was caused by the fluid build up becoming infected.
Also, there's just about no chance this is an STD.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
