I'll just get straight to the point.

My labia are pink as they are supposed to be, but they 'fade out' to a dark color (not pink)around the edges. Is this normal? I feel like they have a dirty appearance. I am very good about hygiene and wash everyday, but I can't help but think I'm doing something wrong. I'm just not sure if it's the natural appearance of my labia, or are all labia supposed to be all pink?

Here goes.  I was talking with a female friend recently, who is about my age (26), about my birth control and sexual habits over the last 10 years, and we realized that with my "typical use" of BC pills, no condom use whatsoever (same partner the whole time), and sexual intercourse approximately once every two days or more on average, it is strange that I've never even had a pregnancy "scare", much less been pregnant.  I mean, I do have semen inside me basically all the time, haha.  I was on Depo for four years from 16-20 years old, never missed an injection, though once I got it two weeks late on accident (had ripped a page out of my planner without realizing, when counting).  Since age 20, I've been on birth control pills, which I usually take within 3 hours of the "taking time", and have only forgotten a pill until the next day maybe five times in the last six years.

And in that decade?  No late periods, no tender breasts, no sudden heavy period that might indicate a miscarriage, no positive pregnancy tests, nothing.  My friend said she had actually been pregnant several times before, using the same general pattern of sex/BC as I do, and though she and her mother are both "hyper-fertile" (her words, they tend to ovulate twice a month and fraternal twins are super common in her family line, etc.), she still thought it was odd that I've never been pregnant.

My mother had some difficulty conceiving me and my sister.

My question is: what is the chance that this lack of "scares" means I may have infertility trouble later in life?  I'm not ready for kids now, but I'd like to have some eventually (within 10 years), and I'm just a tad worried I am incapable of becoming pregnant.  Or possibly, since it's only been one partner, that he's infertile?  Thoughts?  Anyone else like me with no pregnancies or scares whatsoever?

My last two periods were on July 15 and August 12, both lasting about 5-6 days.

Now, I am getting really confused about when my ovulation was supposed to be. Is it supposed to be two weeks after the first day of your last period? In that case, wouldn't it be around the 26th of August?

The reason I am asking is because my boyfriend and I had unprotected sex a couple of times in the last week, where he pulled out waaay before ejaculation. We also had sex with a condom -- he didn't ejaculate inside me then, either. I'm kind of freaking out because my period is supposed to be here in like four or five days, and I don't feel ANYTHING...and I usually feel period signs like a week in advance.

Basically, I'm just asking when I ovulated. Just to be safe, let's just say I can't remember anything about difference in discharge, soreness anywhere, etc.

Thanks!

Hey everyone! I've been lurking here for a long time, and now I really need your help. I'll try to be as clear as possible, but english isn't my mother tongue!

Well, I had  PIV sex for the first time with my boyfriend on june 7th, which was right during my ovulation time (but I didn't realize that at the moment). I'm not on the pill, but we used condoms, and he came twice inside me.
Then, my next period was late, although it's usually very regular. So I used the parsley tea + vitamin C method, which worked quite well: my period finally came on june 27th (normally, it should have come one week earlier).
I took a pregnancy test one week later, which was negative. Then I forgot about this pregnancy scare, as my two next periods came on time (july 25th and august 23rd).
But for the past week, I've been having a weird feeling in my abdomen: it's not cramps or anything, I can't really describe it, but I feel as if there was something there. Yet I haven't been having any pregnancy-related symptoms such as morning sickness or weird cravings, and my breasts aren't tender nor sore. I took two pregnancy tests this week, both of which were negative. But is a pregnancy test still reliable if you take it when you are, let's say, 3 or 4 months pregnant?

Now you may think I'm being completely paranoid, but I've read so many stories about women who were pregnant and still got their period every month, or women who didn't realize they were pregnant until they were very late in their pregnancy...
Sorry for the rant but I'm having a bit of a freakout! Do you think I might be pregnant?

Hey all -

A friend of mine hasn't had her period in over 2 months. The night before last she thought she started it, but it turned out to only be very light spotting that went away quickly. She's taken a million pregnancy tests that have all come out negative, the most recent one being just yesterday. She is freaking out about this pretty bad, since she is usually very regular. I asked her if she's been stressed a lot lately and she said no...I am dumbfounded. Does any one know what might be going on with her??

Thanks for your help!

spotting?

hopefully this won't be deleted...but i can't find anything about this...

do you usually get crampy when you are spotting? i've never spotted before & i think i may have last night, except a lot. i've been crampy like my period is suppose to come except it's about 2 weeks early. i had a lot of like dark brown discharge. it's been bothering me a bit. i've been on yasmin for 4 years, never spotted once. i skipped my period last month, so i'm hoping that's the reason. should i take a pregnancy test?

I've been sexually active for 6 years...5 of those years included my primary partner who I have lived with for the last 3-4 years. [We are poly and I have other lovers, but the majority of my sex has been with him]
For the last..oh...6 months or so I'd say, at the least [it might be more like 9 months], I've been having a much more difficult time with sex.

Sometimes it appears to take me a lot longer to get wet [and sometimes I do not at all, and we use lube] and often the actual intercourse is painful. It never was before. I used to feel that my partner's size was perfect, and now it seems too thick...while I never measured and so cannot be 100% sure, I'm fairly confident in saying I doubt it's his size that has changed.

I have lost a good deal of weight I suppose, and so for awhile I thought maybe it was just differing estrogen levels interfering with my getting wet and it would level out. Well, it has not.

Dunno if this is related but I have also had my first yeast infections this year. April saw me going to a party 9 hours away where I did not eat or sleep much for something like 48 hours [not planned, just did not work out] and when I got back home, I had a yeast infection. Sigh. Then in August I went away for 2 weeks to a camping event, and I suppose my environment must have been very different, the things I was eating and the times I was sleeping (I only recall one night in those 2 weeks where I did not sleep, but I'm sure the times had shifted, and maybe I got less sleep or less restful sleep?); but for whatever reason, upon my return I discovered I had a yeast infection. Well, they both went away within a week with use of garlic and over the counter meds.

Sex while having a yeast infection [occasionally because I did not yet know I had it (and the very painful sex was my clue) and then occasionally cause I'd think it was healed...] was extremely painful, more so than regular pain I've been getting of late.
And yet they did not seem to be very different sorts of pain...still the feeling that what was in me was too big, and an almost sting-y pain. After sex it goes away almost immediately [naturally, I pee after sex, which may help to chase the pain away, I dunno].

So, I was wondering if anyone else had had any similar problems or clues as to what's going on. It's possible I just require more foreplay these days and the only real problem is insufficient natural lube/being insufficiently turned on...and/or possibly still estrogen levels out of wack with my gradual weight loss [which is still continually, methinks]...anyway just thought I'd throw it out here and see what folks thought. Thanks!

Hello---
I was on Depo for 2 years, then in June I went on the Pill. (Ortho-Cept)
I started the pill when my shot was due and I did get a period during the first month on the pill.
My period is VERY heavy now. Before I went on Depo my period would start out really light...get heavy....get light again.
Now it starts out heavy.....stays heavy for 3 days and then it just stops.
I've had 3 periods since I started the pill and during the last one I tried taking IBproufen because I read it could reduce bleeding but it didn't work. Also talked to my DR. and she said give it a few months and it will lighten up. It is because I haven't had a period for 2 years....
So....later this month I'm going on vacation and I don't want my period. So I was planning on skipping the placebo week and starting the next pack. And next month I'll be traveling again and I would rather not have my period again. There is so much blood....I know there will be leakage.
My question.....will it be a terrible idea to skip my period 2 months in a row????? I'm not worried about a little breakthrough bleeding...I can handle that.....I'm just worried about 3 months from now...... do you think skipping my period these 2 months will make my period in November out of control heavy?????
I don't think the heaviness could get any worst..... but you never know.
Or maybe it will cause it to lighten up?

TIA!!

I would like to know if there is a way to transfer my prescription of Desogen from Planned Parenthood to another pharmacy, say, Wal-Mart fairly easily, like without having to have another check-up with possible a different doctor. I’ve relocated to college and there isn’t exactly a PP that is in walking distance (or in town..that I know of) here and having it go to Wal-Mart would be much more convenient that way I could get it no matter where I ended up. I'd still be able to have my yearly check-up at PP, but getting my pills from there is an issue. But, I was online looking at Wally’s prescription stuff and it asked for things like prescribing doctor and other information that doesn’t exactly come with my stuff when I would just pick it up at PP. I kind of don’t think it’s possible, but I’m just curious if anyone here knows before I go calling and bothering people.

Also, I’m not exactly properly insured right now, save for the campus’s little bit of “if you’re sick and dying” deal and am just a poor college student, and I was wondering if Desogen or a generic of that is on anywhere’s $4 / $10 prescription list or something similar and cheap. Apologies if these are ridiculous questions, I’m just kind of clueless and any help would be nice! :)

Last May I went off HBC because I got a Mirena. A month later, I started slowly showing all the signs of PCOS - I had been diagnosed before, but since I went on the pill (therefore, the symptoms went away) I just ignored the diagnosis. Now, since I'm off the pill, it's showing back up.

I have hair loss, body hair growth, non-normal periods, inability to lose weight, and now in the past couple of weeks I've been having blood sugar problems. If I make sure to eat Ok I am pretty fine, but last night we went out to eat and had to wait, and I felt myself "crashing", but about a half an hour after I ate I was doing Ok.

So more symptoms are starting to show up. My normal gyn (who is very pro-choice and I LOVE him) doesn't seem to know a thing about PCOS. He's been absolutely awesome for all my other problems (and I have had a LOT of those), but pretty ignorant on this one, so I don't feel like it would do much to go to him.

Right now, I have really, really bad insurance. I have been job hunting pretty intensely, and hope to rectify the bad insurance problem with a decent job here soon. The insurance covers nothing preventative, and if it's not pre-existing it's covered 80%.

I know diagnosing PCOS isn't something that can be done too easily. In other words, they will have to run tests, possibly send me to other doctors, and it will all add up. If I go to my GYN, I feel that there is a 50/50 chance that he will be able to help. But right now I am broke - I really don't have a dime to spend towards this.

So if you were in my situation - what would you do? Just go to an endo, run up the debt, hope insurance will not consider it "pre-exisiting" and cover a big chunk? Or wait until you have good insurance? The blood sugar thing scares me, but it's controllable.

I am also trying to manage this as naturally as possible - I ride a bike for a half an hour a day, trying to stay on whole wheats and unsaturated fats, etc. Any suggestions that way?

In other words, I'm just looking for advice, experience, anything that may help out. Even if it sounds like a very hairbrained idea, I'm not adverse to trying it :-D I did try to sign up for a PCOS study, though, and was disqualified because of the IUD.

Hi all,

Recently, we've noticed an increasing number of posts asking for people's reactions to or side effects with specific brands of hormonal birth control. Because of this increase, we wanted to remind posters that we consider these types of questions frequent topics that will be deleted.

It's not that we don't want you to get answers to your questions; rather, with these types of questions, it's more that there aren't any solid answers. Because personal experiences with any form of hormonal birth control can vary so wildly from person to person, others' side effects (including the severity or lack thereof) won't have any bearing on your experience.

If there was a single brand that was the Best Thing EVAR, very likely that brand would dominate the market. At the opposite end of the spectrum, if there was a brand that was truly Evil Incarnate, very likely most health care providers would be reluctant to prescribe it.

We understand how comforting it can be to hear from other members, but in the case of personal experiences regarding side effects, that understanding is outweighed by our concern that others' experiences (positive or negative) will give members a skewed idea of what they should expect when taking a particular formulation of HBC. This is especially true when someone is getting feedback from a relatively small group of people, as would be the case in a single Live Journal post.

So it's not that we delete these posts because we're unsympathetic to your concerns. Rather, we want to make sure you get the best and most accurate information about side effects overall, rather than relying on anecdotal evidence that may or may not play out for you.

If you definitely still want an outlet for asking about reactions to particular types of HBC, you may want to try the community [livejournal.com profile] birthcontrolled. They're a less busy -- but not dead -- more narrowly focused community with an explicitly "ask anything" policy.

If you have questions about VP's policy, you're welcome to contact us via email or by opening up a dialogue over in [livejournal.com profile] contact_vp.

Thanks for reading,
Tori

After about a week of discussion about piercings with my boyfriend, I have decided to get a clitoral hood piercing. I went with him yesterday to get his nipples pierced which ended up being extremely sexy, although left him in quite a bit of pain. We decided to do that when we did because he is going out of state for 2 weeks so we won't be able to be physical with each other at all, thus giving his nipples some time to heal before we go at it again.

SO, I'd like some input from you wonderful folks about the hood piercing. I'm thinking I'll get a vertical piercing, as that's most common and also said to be the most sexually stimulating. Do any of you have a vertical or horizontal hood piercing and if you do, what do you think about it? Which would you recommend, vertical or horizontal? Did it hurt? Is it actually more stimulating than no piercing? Any complications? Is it difficult to care for?

And most of all, what was the healing time? I only get to see my boyfriend once a week as it is, so we get right down to the dirty when we do see each other. He'll be gone for another 2 weeks so I'll probably wait to do it until he gets back as he really wants to see me get it done. I would just like to know how long it will be before we can get back to the good stuff.

Any insight would be much appreciated!

Currently I'm on the nuva ring, and I HATE IT. It's fantastic because I don't have to remember to take a pill or anything, but it sucks because I don't react well to it, and my innards ache. Yes, I'm sure it's the ring.
Anyways, I'm going to switch to the pill asap, but have two questions:
What's the minimum and the maximum I will pay for it?
And what time of day do you personally find it most convenient to remember and take?

**MODS - It told me I wasn't allowed to add tags to entries to this journal? I tried to put these tags: IC Microgestin FE, Break-through Bleeding, Multiple Periods, 1st time on BC. I'm probably doing something wrong?**

I started IC Microgestin FE six weeks ago. It's the first time I've ever been on BC. I'm 26 years old and have a history of missing periods. I've gone 6 months without having a period and it is rare for me to have my period two months in a row. That being said, I started BC while I was having one of my periods (like the directions said) and since then, including that first period, I have had my period 4 TIMES.

Now, is it possible some of those were breakthrough bleeding? I have never had breakthrough bleeding before. For all 4 of those periods (Three of them lasted for a week each, though obviously not heavy all of those days) I have been able to wear tampons for at least one of the days. One of those weeks the whole period was pretty light and could only wear tampons for a couple of the days (and I probably only should have for about one or two days).

The current period I am on now, it is the third day. I could have worn tampons the first day, but definitely not today. Is it possible this period is a breakthrough bleeding, even though I was bleeding enough to be able to wear tampons the first and possibly the second day? Also with one of those periods where it was light, but lasted for seven days, could that have been breakthrough?

Just today, I discovered a couple little whitish bumps on my gums. They hurt when I poke 'em with my tongue, but not much. They aren't fluid-filled (so far as I can tell) or hugely protruding or anything, just shallow little white circles. One of 'em is about the size of a pencil eraser, maybe a little smaller, and the other two are about half that size.

The thing is, I wouldn't be worried if they were on the inside of my cheek or lip, 'cause that's where I usually get canker sores (I have one now, in fact)--but I've never heard of canker sores on the gums before, only herpes (which goes on the hard palate sometimes), and their similar appearance has me, well, freaking out.

My only hope is that they were caused by my retainer, but I haven't even worn that for several days. It doesn't help that I gave my boyfriend unprotected oral today, before I notice them, and now I feel miserable...

Pic under the cut, Expandfor any brave and kind souls. )

Thanks...

so the other day i was cleaning at my client's house and i went to go through the propped-open screen door and somehow my BREAST got hooked on the doorhandle and gave me a nice big scrape across my breast, up to my nipple.

needless to say it HURTS and i've been cleaning it, but it's now looking infected... anyone got ideas on how to treat this? i've never cut my nipple before...

So, I posted about this before but I'm worried and I am a hypochondriac so I am posting again. Today I noticed I am producing a lot of discharge and it's white and clear and quite snot like. I'm not sure if it is ovulation discharge because it shouldn't be!! I am taking microgynon 30 and just for some background information:

I took June and August's packs together so I could skip my period. All went well, I took one pill 3 hours late in the first month, and the end of august I took 2 pills early but technically it meant only the one day was an hour late. [i.e. on thursday and friday I took it at around 7 but saturday I resumed my normal time of 8.20]
I had my period on thursday as normal, it was shorter but it was to be expected as I skipped a period.
Started my new pack this Monday have took it perfectly.

My questions are:

Is that kind of discharge normal, even on HBC?
If it is ovulation discharge, would it mean I'd be fertile from today or the days before?

Worried because I had sex on Wednesday night with withdrawal and HBC as my contraception.

 hello lovely vp-ers [:

i was wondering if anyone had the experience of going onto birth control when they already had a very regular, happy period. i used to have miserable, irregular, heavy periods. suddenly when i got to college and gained some healthy weight, they were fairly light, no cramps and done in about 4 days instead of 9. i am really scared to screw up my amazing cycle but i would like to start birth control for the prevention of babies before  i'm in a relationship and before winter starts and my hormones will be out of whack anyway.

thanks for your help.enjoy your weekend.

Okay.. I am supposed to get my period tomorrow. I haven't had it in 6 weeks (stacked on Yasmin).. and I was a sunday starter, but started on saturday (one day earlier) in order to try and get my period to go away sooner..

I try and avoid getting my period because I have a long distance bf and we only see each other every other weekend. So here is the question - if I get my period tomorrow (which I should be), can I start taking the next pack tomorrow and become a first day of period starter and still be protected? (i've been on the pill for almost 2 years). the things we do to avoid our periods hahaha

If I do this, can I switch back to Sunday start at anytime?
[identity profile] thecoolbanana.livejournal.com
So I started the pill last month. Last night was the last of the regular pills..tonight was the first of the placebo pills (though i havent gotten my period yet...any day now) and I had sex tonight. If I've been on the pill this long and about to get my period, what are the chances of me getting pregnant? Just uber paranoid!
[identity profile] leedlekay.livejournal.com
Okay, I know there's a lot of these posts, but I just don't know where to go! I am on Depo and have been since January of this year. I have never missed a shot. Just how likely is it that you would get pregnant on it? I ask this because I am very, very paranoid and can't seem to get the idea out of my head that I might be pregnant, although I have no 'signs.' My boyfriend hasn't actually ejaculated inside me in over a month, so I would notice something by now if I was pregnant, right? All I really need is some peace of mind. Please please please relieve my paranoia!

I have hooked up with a female friend of mine for the past two nights in a row, including receiving oral sex. Yesterday morning my vagina became really inflamed, swollen, red, itchy, painful, and the topmost part, above the clitoris, burns if I touch or move it. I have no mysterious discharge or burning when I pee. Do you have any idea what this might be? I know I need to go to a doctor but it's ten on Sunday and I'm a little screwed.

[identity profile] vag-monster.livejournal.com
This could be long, it could be short - im not sure as yet - i have a few things id like to ask about

BEfore i start I'd like to say that YES i have a docs appointment but not til the end of the week and cant get any sooner and im a constant worrier.

Firstly, I have had a UTI since july 08  and have had two courses of antibiotics (trimethroprim) but the infection returns soon afterwards tho to a lesser degree for a wee while til it flairs up again. Urine samples suggested that trimethroprim was the best antibiotic for the bacteria they found in both instances. Blood tests revealled a raised ESR suggesting inflamation and infection and have done so since march this year tho the doc just keeps taking more blood rather than trying to find out what has caused this. I will have to go back to the docs again this week.

This happened to me before between the ages of 17 - 20 when i had almost permanent cystitis and uti's and while infection did show up in tests, the docs couldnt find any rhyme or reason to this. It took away what should have been the best years of my life and disappeared as suddently as it arrived. I dont think i can face any length of time like that again.

Secondly, just after my first dose of antibiotics and again after my second, I noticed that i had a light green colour, very thick discharge and things down there were a little fishy smelling. It didnt last long but is obviously a little disconcerting. I thought if it had been some infection in the vaginal area that the antibiotics would have sorted it out.

Finally my last two periods have been rather odd. The last one was very light and lasted only a few days (im usually very heavy and clotted and there was less in the three days than i would normally have in one day) The one before that was also lighter than normal. I had odd symptoms happening and worried i was pregnant but two tests two weeks apart said negative. Im on birth control and have used the same brand for over 3 years so sudden changes like this dont really make much sense to me.

Ive been with my partner since the start of the year and everything was fine until july - neither of us have STD's

Could this period thing be related to the uti?

Could the uti be related to the smelly vag?

How the hell do i get rid of both?

How do i get the doc to actually pay attention and do something?
[identity profile] klmcdan.livejournal.com
So I am on BCP and was using condoms and had sex on and off up to my inactive pills last month and then had my period on August 25 but have not had sex since my period, is it possible that I am still pregnant though?  Someone told me no because you shed your uterine lining when you have your period but I have also heard that it takes 2 weeks for implantation so if I had sex after 2 weeks before my period, isn't it possible to still be pregnant even though you had your period? Hope this makes sense, thanks!
