Okay okay, one more question...or a few.

Blood tests at Planned Parenthood. At the one I visited, they have your result within about thirty minutes. I'm assuming it's put through a machine of some sort? How reliable is this compared to your vial being sent to a lab?
And, lastly, is sixteen days after the 'action' long enough to wait before having an accurate blood test?

Because I'm a naturally worry-wart. Thanks so much.

Hey all, if this isn't allowed, go ahead and delete it, but I read the rules it it didn't say no, so here goes.

I'm taking a human sexuality class this semester in college, and while i was originally going to do my term paper and oral presentation on "Female sexual abuse and later sexual dysfunction" i have since changed my mind and decided to do "Menstruation-How society views coming of age".

Here's where you guys come in. I have a basic outline of thing I want to talk about in the oral presentation portion, one of which are common myths associated with getting your period, or images displayed by the media. I'm looking for stories of your first time, and how you felt. i'm also looking for how you felt the first time you used a menstrual cup for those of you who use them.
Also, any links you have floating around that you think would be helpful to either suggest to the class or for me to use information from for my presentation.

What i'm hoping is that not only will many people benefit here from this, but that i will be able to change some peoples' minds about it in my class (i'll be talking about things like menstrual cups, cloth pads, and having sex while a girl is menstruating).

(on a somewhat related note, how do you pronounced menstruation? 3 syllables or 2?)

i posted earlier this week about having taken ECP nearly three weeks ago, having my period a few days after that, then starting HBC and having spotting when i should have had my period. that was last week. THIS week i have been bleeding HEAVILY for the past three days for NO reason. next week is my off week.

this is my first (and last) month on yasmin. my doctor and i are trying to find a pill that agrees with me. (nice to be a guinea pig). i called her today to tell her that so far in the past three weeks on yasmin i have felt SO lethargic i don't want to do anything, i don't want to have sex, and then there's the excessive bleeding. so i am supposed to stop by her office tomorow to get a sample pack of loestrin. i have two good friends who LOVE loestrin so i am keeping my fingers crossed that it will work for me, but who knows.

my question is, should i start the loestrin this sunday, even though next week is supposed to be my off week? i mean i am technically on my period now anyway, and the thought of being on my period for another week is making me crazy. i forgot to ask her on the phone and she doesn't work on fridays. i will probably ask the nurse in the office but i thought i would get opinions here too.

i am just SO tired of bleeding...this happened to me about 6 years ago when i went on orthocyclen and i seriously spotted for about 7 weeks. i am NOT doing that again, plus this is not spotting...this is filling up my divacup about every 12 hours.

Okay, so since last night I've been experiencing some pain in my left breast. It's like a stabbing pain, not-sharp, it feels like it's right behind my nipple and/or aureole(sp??). It seems to come and go. When it's a stabbing pain, touching/pressing against my breast seems to intensify it. When there's no stabbing pain, pressing against my breast does cause some dull pain.

Umm....and it appears that now my right nipple is kinda painful/tender/overly-sensitive too.

It's about the right time of the month for my boobs to starting doing their PMSy swelling-up-and-tender thang. But they've never done this stabby pain before.

Have any of you experienced something like this before? Does it sound like something I should head to the doctor for? It's kinda freaking me out, but I don't exactly have the money to throw away on a doctor visit where all he's gonna do is tell me it's perfectly normal and to take some Midol. o_O

In march i began taking the pill for the first time. i told my gyno i wanted it to ease cramps, because they were UNBELIEVABLY painful. [By painful, i mean me laying on my bathroom floor clutching my stomach and crying, or on other occasions, my mother having to take the spork from my hands to prevent me from scraping my uterus out.] The gyno gave me Estrostep. I began taking it and all was well. ofcourse there was the initial getting-used-to-it phase but otherwise nothing bad, and i havent missed any pills.

tuesday i went to take my pill and thought i was up to placebo week, but as soon as i popped the placebo pill i noticed my last active pill for that day. [i take my pill at 6 am, and my alarm woke me from a dead sleep. it was a somewhat understandable error on my part.] i took the active pill as well and went about my day as usual. Wednesday I didnt take anything because i had already taken that placebo pill and everything was fine. This morning, i got up and took my placebo pill. My period started as would be expected, and i was fine until around 12. Then the cramps started. I mean serious, painful cramps just as bad as before i ever started the BC.

so my question is this:
I was expecting my cramps to be little to none at all so having them this bad came as a mild shock to me. Was this just caused by my body needing more time to get used to the pill? Or could there be something else going on here?

Thanks so much!

So I'm an Always girl, as in pads for me... I've been ridiculed for this for a LONG freaking time and was told that once I lost my virginity, I would "see the light" and switch to tampons. Yeah. Well that's not happening. The thing is, I tried 5 times and I could STILL feel it... even after following instructions to.the.letter regarding positioning, how far to go, etc.

Anyone heard of anything like this? Should I try a different brand (this was with Tampax Pearls)?

Thanks,
Trinity

For some reason, I always seem to have a yellowy-white discharge. I treat it with Canesten (and in the hospital since it's covered by OHIP, Monestat) every now and then, and it goes away temporarily (as in, a few days) but then comes right back. Do you know how annoying it is to be constantly putting kleenex between your labia? Because having something lining my underwear isn't enough. It'll go onto it and all I can feel is wetness so I'm never sure if I'm leaking urine, just got my period, or if it's the discharge. So I put toilet paper or kleenex between the skin to keep my panties dry. Sometimes I'll just give up and put my divacup in for a few days, especially if I'm going somewhere where I won't be able to run off to the bathroom every few hours when I feel the tell-tale wetness.

It really is annoying though. I'm wondering to what extent I surpass what's 'normal'? I mean, should there be discharge running out of your vagina all day and night long, grossing up your pretty panties and stressing you out because you're not sure if it's soaked through to your pants?

I just don't know what to do about it anyore. I probably use more kleenex in my underwear than I use to blow my nose, because I can't afford to be buying pantiliners for every single day of the year (but also because the wetness stays on the pantiliners and then I can still feel it and I panic).

Oh, I'm also fifteen years old. In case that has anything to do with it.

Sigh. Any ideas?

HELP.

i had an issue with plucking for a year or so, and now half (or most) of my hair down there won't grow back. i know i've damaged the hair follicles, but i don't know what to do. i feel like i'll never look normal again. is all hope lost, or is there ANYTHING i can do to regrow the hair?

Cyst

Hey girls, I was browsing around.

Today I went to the gyno's for a follow-up appointment after a blood-filled ovarian cyst had been discovered on my left ovary. I wasn't given an exact size of the cyst (apparently, doctors aren't supposed to directly give out the measurements of cysts, tumors, etc) but I was told that it was "on the large side". Today I was told that the cyst had increased in size by 2 centimeters in a little over one month, and that my doctor wanted to surgically remove it. I was put on hormones in the past to try and shrink it, and it was probably the most horrible experience of my life.

So with a surgery going to be planned in the near future (because this baby is causing some serious pain), I'm just a little curious about anyone else who may have already gone through this procedure. It's going to be a laparoscopic surgery, but that doesn't mean much to me. Can anyone share their experience with me?

I apologize if this has been posted already; I checked under the tags and most recent entries.

I don't mean to hype anyone up, but I found this interesting and promising, and I was wondering if anyone has heard about this.

Basically, this article is about (as summed up at the bottom of the article):

-Paul Savage and his Brigham Young University research team have invented CSA-54, a chemical compound that holds the promise of killing the HIV virus.

-CSA-54 is one of a family of compounds called Ceragenins that mimic the disease-fighting characteristics of a healthy human immune system.

-Tests at Vanderbilt University indicate the BYU compound also could be effective against influenza, small pox and herpes.

-Assuming continued positive results, CSA-54 could be available in three to seven years.

I also found this http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/medicalnews.php?newsid=37218 though Google and I read something from the BBC that I can no longer find, in case anyone was interested.

I've been looking for info on this but can't find anything specific...

What exactly do genital herpes sores look like? And what sort of discharge is usually considered symptomatic?

A few days ago, my boyfriend took me to the pharmacy. Sunday is my patch day, but it was Monday already so I just stuck the patch on in the car. On the drive home, he just started asking me all these questions about the patch and birth control in general! Luckily, I've done my research and am always being updated by you ladies. He was curious about how it gets into your system and where you can put it and what's in it...

I was just really excited that while it isn't something that he has to directly deal with (I've been taking HBC since way before I met him and I'm a virgin). I hope that you all find people who care that much and are able to educate them! Yay for education!!!
