This is like a synthesis of all my other posts....

I went to see the gyno for a swollen lymph node (which they thought was los herpos, but turned out not to be) and she almost slapped me when I told her I was wearing a softcup.

"That has to stop now," she tells me. Why? Well she explained it in scientific terms. You know the little petri dishes they culture bacteria in? And they use auger (sp?), bacteria food, to grow the stuff? Well blood is a very fertile auger, so if you have any sort of infection, you are basically making your own little petri dish over your cervix, and the bacteria are happily multiplying like crazy. Apparently she had a patient with a raging BV because she had been reusing the softcups on a camping trip, wearing them for too long, etc etc, just incubating the BV.

So there, now you know. They are not categorically unsafe or anything, but if you are having any sort of infection or mystery going on in your vagina, keep off the cup til you are all better. (Really, you should not wear any internal device, but particularly not the cup.)

Also, isn't it funny that only GYNs get mad at you for the stuff you do? When was the last time your optometrist said "Well, that has to stop NOW"

Hello Ladies -

First time poster :) I've had this small patch of skin that has a darker pigmentation, is dry and a bit scaly on my bikini line area. I went to the doctor yesterday and showed it to him. He prescribed Lotrimin to be applied twice daily. From my knowledge, Lotrimin is most often used to treat fungal "jock itch." That patch of skin has never itched, burned, or otherwise bothered me [except for appearance]. I'm hoping that the Lotrimin will take care it, but I'm wondering if it could be something else?

Have any of you experienced this or something similar?

Thanks :-)

I know that tampons arent very popular around these parts, but i thought i would mention a show i saw on the discover health channel last night. it was an hour long program about Toxic Shock Syndrome and how it was discovered and things of that nature it was quite interesting. thought maybe some of you would find intrest in that show as well. check your local listings for discovery health channel (on digital and dish networks)

i read this and thought that it might be a good discussion topic for this community..(if its inappropriate i will just delete it) but its interesting to think how women have been getting their periods earlier and earlier over time.

Hello! I officially just joined [livejournal.com profile] vaginapagina and [livejournal.com profile] birthcontrol. I was wondering if anyone can answer my questions regarding Natural Family Planning. Does anyone use it? How successful has it been for you? What do you do?

i have been using sea sponge tampons for a few months now. i don't feel like another one of society's consumer drones. forced to spend more then 144$ a year on disposable products. products that white men are getting rich off selling me. i'm no longer another womyn who trashes 17,000 pads and tampons in her life time.

nopers i have my lil' squishy friends from the sea! all natural baby.

i feel so much better. i put them in and they feel like nothing's there! i can go swimming and there are no strings attached ^.^
some womyn have sex with them in, haven't tried that yet myself.
but it rocks my socks!!!

yeah they're better for your health, the environment, economy and happiness. if you wanna know more feel free to ask.

your cunt lovin' friend,
kali

The post about the age of onset of menstruation getting lower and lower in our society, and everyone sharing the age that they started, reminded me of something interesting and bizarre that I thought I'd share with everyone else.

I first got my period at age 12 years, 9 months old. Twelve and nine are divisible by three. It was three months away to my thirteenth birthday, which would be the third month of 1997, three years before the turn of the century. There are three females in my immediate family, and we all know the close presence of other girls can affect one's menstrual cycle. Then, last year, which was the sixth year (six is divisible by three) since my first period, I started to get it every three weeks. That has continued into this year, 2003, and now I usually bleed for three days, give or take a day afterwards of light spotting, but I don't count that because it ruins the coincidence. :)

Cool, no? (And I even unconciously divided this post into three paragraphs...!)
