Risks of oral sex?

Alright, sorry for asking so many questions.
I've just recently become sexually active. Me and my boyfriend have only had sex once - it was oral. (He's FTM so we're not going to be doing PIV stuff, obviously, unless toys count). My boyfriend has had other partners before, but I haven't. I'm just wondering how necessary it is to use a dental dam when he goes down on me? Seeing as I don't have anything, obviously?
I kind of dislike dams for two reasons. For one thing, they seem like they would kind of kill the sensation. (I didn't use one last time). Also, I have a latex sensitivity, and am at very high risk of developing a full-blown allergy (due to the pre-existing sensitivity, as well as a surgery I had when I was younger, and having a cousin who is very allergic to latex). So, no latex for me. The non-latex dams are very hard to find, and expensive (3 dollars apiece). I did buy one a while back, but didn't end up using it last time. Yes, yes, I know.
So, should we really use a dam next time? Or is it fairly safe to skip it?
Also, any kind of safer sex tips for folks with latex allergies would be spiffy.
