I'm currently 5 weeks pregnant and I might have a slight UTI....

Are UTIs sexually transmittable? What are the chances of passing it on to my boyfriend?

and does anyone know how to "read" your cervix ? know any websites for this? .. mine is currently soft and kind of "open" ... could this just be because I'm pregnant or am I possibly miscarrying? ...

thanks in advance

Hey - I need to get tested and I was thinking about going to the PPH on Mott Street in NYC. Has anyone ever been tested there? What's the procedure? Can you just walk in? Thanks!

edit: sorry guys, I meant an STD test. So, what I'm gathering from your responses is it's pretty booked normally. Where else would you suggest to go in the city? Thanks!

My apologies if this is a dumb question.

I just finished up a round of antibiotics and was told to wait 7 days after my last dose before sex without backup.

Today is the 7th day. Am I good to go or do I need to wait until tomorrow (hence 7 full days) before sex with no condom?

Thanks :D

I'm sorry if this is common knowledge, but I am a little confused. I've had three pap tests total in my life, including the one I had today. The first two I had at planned parenthood, since I didn't have health insurance as a student. Now that I've graduated and have a real job, I have health insurance and went to visit a new OB/GYN today. During the pap, I started bleeding, and she said I would spot for a little while after. Is this normal? I've never bled during a pap before (the other 2 times I had it done at planned parenthood). Was she just not gentle enough, or something? I noticed she used both a cotton swab and a "brush" type thing that looks like the end of a mascara wand. Could this have something to do with the bleeding?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi all!!

So I had sex on my period on Tuesday night, the first day of my period. Since then it's completely gone. There have been past months where I wasn't even getting my period on this pill because the hormone levels are so low...and then recently I've been getting one. So I'm just curious, it was very obvious I had my period, but after we had sex it was gone and hasn't shown up since!

Also, if a yeast infection isn't entirely treated and you have sex, can it come back worse?

Also, I have HSV 2 but I've never really had a real outbreak... thought I did, it wasn't, so yeah, still no outbreaks. I've dated two guys with HSV 2. One of them refused to do oral because he thought he'd get it on his mouth or vice versa. The new guy who has it is all about oral and it doesn't seem to phase him.

I think the odds of getting it on your mouth during oral if the virus is already settled in the base of the spine is very slim and almost not worth worrying about. Is it still possible for the virus to change parts of the body once it's already established itself in one part? What are your thoughts!

Thanks in advance, VPers!!

Hi ladies, I've got something going on down below I was hoping to get some help with.  I noticed a few days ago it was a little itchy, I thought maybe it was because I hadn't shaved in a while and the hair was irritating the area.  So I shaved and it seemed to help some with just the hair being gone, but it's still a little itchy.  I bought some vagisal last night and that has helped, though I forgot to put it on this morning.  So it's not as itchy as it was, but its still a little off.

Upon using the bathroom I found there was a lot of discharge on my pantyliner.  It's a light brownish color and its kind of watery....like its all soaked in the liner, it's not goopy or anything.  There is very little odor, TMI probably but when I tried to sniff it I actually had to a few times to detect anything.  Its very light and kind of sweet rather than the repulsive, jerk your nose away that I would expect with out of the ordinary discharge.  It's even less of an odor that is just naturally there all the time.

The area looks fine except that its a touch red and slightly irritated looking, though less so than I would have thought.  I should mention the itch and the discharge all seems to be coming from the clit area (I am not sure if the clit can actually secret discharge, I guess I am ignorant about that stuff) but anytime I feel the discharge escape, its from that area and that is where all the irritation is.  The opening and the rest of the area feels fine.

Um, a little other background info...I am on a progestin only pill, have been for four years or so and haven't gotten a period since then.  I am in a commited relationship but do not use condoms, and while we do have a fairly regular sex life we have not had it in the last week or so, not even any kind of touching that could have resulted in scratching the area or anything.  My last STI test was done in March and everything was fine.

I'm leaving tomorrow for a weekend trip so a visit to the gyno is kind of not possible right now.  I think the vagisal will keep the itchies at bay for the weekend at least, but should I maybe get some yeast inifection meds or something (I don't think it is one, but maybe it would kill whatever is going on?).  I am also unsure of what "activities" to partake in this weekend.  Is it ok to have sex?  Should I avoid any touching in that area?  Any thoughts at all to what it could be?

Can someone tell me whats up? lol. I honestly don't believe I'm pregnant so this isn't a "OH am I?" post it is more has anyone experienced this? or do you think its just cause I'm feeling stressed and overwhelmed?

Back story: I missed a few pills, period was 19th to the 22nd, and my pill is Logynon ed. Anywho so in the first week of taking the pill I managed to forget to take, monday's pill but then took it on tuesday with the tuesday pill *from what I understand it said to take the missed pill as soon as you remember* Then I think I accidentally missed the thursday pill (of the same week) and didn't remember till late friday night as I almost/quite possibly missed friday's withing 12 hour thing. and then again this last monday I missed monday's pill >_< **bad belle**

Anyway I've been on this pill for like 2 years, and have never missed/forgotten any pills other then now. So I'm not too worried, we did have sex everyday(atleast once) no condoms. but again not too worried, still should of been protected ect.

But since sunday I've been spending my days, utterly tired, either feeling like I'm going to throw up or throw up once or twice or more, hungry, like unusually hungry for me, my back is sore, and I'm a little crampy, now either, my body is just stressed out, or maybe my body is just now begining a pms stage. I never use to get pms.

But I never usually like red meat, and now I just want to eat red meat, I can't get enough of steak.

So I was sorta thinking, maybe my body has just gone weird cause of my bad pill taking month, or I'm just quite stressed, and its annoying (no I know I'm stressed) Or my body just now hates me.

Happened to any of you lovely VP'ers?

Hey guys. So, this question is mainly for the women in this community (or female bodied).

I have a yeast infection. I've had it for going on a week now. Trouble is, I have trouble having things inserted into my vagina due to my cerebral palsy - it just can't be done. So I bought a yeast infection treatment kit and have been using the external vulvar cream for symptom relief, but there's no way that I can insert the capsules.

My doctor wants to prescribe me a pill, but one of the side effects is "seizures," and I'm worried that might be a problem. Obviously it's not common, but I'd rather not take the risk.

So, does anyone have any advice on treating the infection without using a pill or insert? Has anyone had this problem before?

Thanks!

UTI & tea?

Is it a bad idea to drink tea (of any type) with a UTI?

I know cranberry juice and water are ideal, however on top of my UTI I have a cold (complete with meag-sore throat). I really want to drink some hot tea!

I'm really not sure. Lately I've felt like I have to pee really bad, but hardly pee at all (which really isn't so uncommon for me, aside from the frequency). I've felt worn out, and my lower back has been mildly sore. I also seem to be having more discharge than usual, but it's clear, thin liquid, nothing much like mucous. Just...damp all the time. No pain, but I've had a UTI without any pain before, so I'm not sure that's really a good indicator for me. Soooooo thoughts on what this might be? It's not that anything is really wrong, just nothing is right either.

Oh, also, something down there has felt swollen inside, but it's hard to tell where exactly.
[identity profile] iceicetea.livejournal.com
I was on a 14-day dose of Doxycycline for some bacterial inflammation. Because I was neg for everything under the sun, my OBGYN ruled out it was probably due to my bubble bathing/me not cleaning the tub out well enough and having a finicky vagina to begin with. (Put two-and-two together, and.. Yeah.) Anyway, 7 days in and washing properly, rather, washing LITTLE (minimal soap, etc.), eliminating bath time, I could literally FEEL (and smell, of course) my floral veer toward the norm/what it used to be. Sweet, musky, blablabla... But, now that I've finished my antibiotic, I'm pretty sure I've got - DUNDUNDUUUN - a YEAST INFECTION! Oh, yay!

My question: is it necessary I treat it? I'm not itching like a monkey, but I am a wee-bit irritated, and there is that obvious cottage cheese-esque discharge and bread/beer smell. I'm due for my period soon, and at this point I'm kinda weary about messing with my area any more than I already have/feel I should sort of let it run it's "natural" course. I do have some boric acid (which I was using ASSUMING I had BV, which of course I came back negative for, too). Would boric acid clear it up, or is that specific for BV only?

As always, thank you!

Hi there

So this community has been so great. I feel like i know a lot more about sex and ppl in general and that everyone is human you know so not to freak out over things because its most likely happened to someone else. I think the best comment for me that ive read on here so far was something like " just remember your a girl and your ontop of him giving him pleasure".This really helped me cause I hated being ontop before, I suck at rythm and all i could think about was omg my boobs look horrible from this angle.

So besides just saying thanks, i do have some questions. Ive met this new guy and hes the biggest that ive ever been with. Long and pretty girthy. Makes me happy :) however I find that Im not getting off like Im used to. It feels great but after 10 min or so I start going numbish. Im just wondering if anyone has delt with this as well, how they handled it. I use lube (wow durex tingle) and so wetness is not a problem at all. We havent been together that long so im not sure if this will just go away when/if i get more used to him, or if there is something i should try.

As well most guys that ive been with usually go limp after ejaculating. He does not, or not enough for me to go OH ok. We are both pretty quiet as well so Im finding it hard to tell when hes done. Makes me feel dumb. Like last night he was like oh fuck and so i did know but then he kept going for another couple of minutes. ?? thoughts

Thanks
Amanda

Okay VPers, I am gonna need a concerted effort from you guys to help me out with this…

I had sex for the first time about a month ago. Since then, I’ve had it about twelve times with my boyfriend – I’d say 9 using a condom and 3 not, but he’s never come inside me. The last time I had sex, both protected and unprotected, was about 2 weeks ago.

I recently contracted my first UTI. Yikes. After about two or three days I went to see the doctor yesterday, got antibiotics to take 2x a day. I took them twice yesterday. This morning, felt a little bit of an itch but thought nothing of it.

This afternoon it was even worse and I suspect it’s a YI caused by the antibiotics I’m taking. I took a cup of live yogurt, which has helped a little bit.

But later on I discovered a cut on my vagina - pretty deep, but visible when I'm spread. It's bled about half a teaspoonful, probably caused by my rubbing because of the YI or something like that, I have no idea.

So this leaves me in a bit of a doozy. The cut can't heal properly because I keep rubbing due to the YI itch. All the while I am taking antibiotics which I think are making the YI worse.

Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention that I'm also worried I might be pregnant because I had unprotected sex (pulled out way before ejaculation) two weeks ago and my period is supposed to be somewhere around...now.

This is really distressing and is really enough to turn me off sex forever. Seriously.

Help?

-EDIT-
Thanks so much, guys, and keep the comments coming please! I'm so confused... I have a couple more questions, sorry if they're dumb.

One thing I wanted to know is, is it dangerous to have a cut while I have a UTI? Will the open wound allow for bacteria to enter my bloodstream or anything like that?
The other is -- since most of you agree there's a chance of me being pregnant -- my last period was on the 12th of August, and the one before that on the 15th of July. Would a HPT be accurate now?

Discharge

Dose anyone seem to have this happen to them, most of the time through the day you find that your undies are wet and when you go to the bathroom you find that you have discharge in your pantes, and is it just me or can you feel when the discharge is coming out, its clear to milky white color sometimes strecthy and sometimes yellowish or greenish when dried..  And is this normal discharge or unusual discharge? Sometimes it looks like a snot color..

Does taking extra active pills make you more likely to ovulate during your inactive week?  For instance, I wanted to 'delay' my period by like 5 days so I took my 21 active pills in the pack and went straight to a new pack taking 5 more active pills (26 active pills straight) and then went on my 7 inactive pills (since I like the reassurance of getting my period so I didn't want to skip it altogether) and then started my active pills back up again.  Did this decrease the effectiveness of the birth control during the inactive week?? I used condoms or had 'other' sex during that week but I was just wondering in case.  It has me a little rattled since my boobs are really sore right now and I'm not sure why (plus I haven't had sex since my period started but I'm still not sure why my breasts are tender)?

And I do know that I'm supposed to take 21 active pills this month as well but I won't be having sex for another few months or so (we're long distance) so I'm just going to have this pack be a little short and get back on track these next few months so no worries there.

Hi, this would be for any of you Moms out there.

I had my son 11/6/07 and he is now 10 months old. I went to see a GYN to try out some more birth control since my first try didn't exactly work. I had her look at my episiotomy and she said it looked normal. But I know I have been feeling a strange soreness on my perenium after sex and sometimes randomly throughout the day depending on what I'm doing. I know I have a hymenal tag and at times it does bother me during sex, but I don't believe that is the problem.
I told her that when she was doing the exam, when she pressed on the bottom of the opening of my vagina (and the top of the repair site) that it felt sore and painful. She didn't see anything.

When I looked myself a couple days ago I did see something that looks SORT OF like a fissure. I can't be sure exactly what it is because I can't get that close, but there was something there when I looked. They have referred me to a guy that does repair work on badly done or poorly healed episiotomies. I have been putting off seeing him because I am so scared they would want me to have this proceedure done again (which was the most painful thing ever, by the way) and I am so not groovy with this idea. Do you guys think it's worth it? Should I have the hymenal tag removed? Or does anyone know what this kind of procedure is like?
Can they do minor repairs or do they just wipe the slate clean and start "fresh" all the time?

Any insight here would be greatly appreciated.

[sorry if this is TMI]

I think I have an ongoing yeast infection that will NEVER die...

There's no itching/burning/excessive discharge... but I would feel weird having sex with someone ... and even worse having someone go down on me. There's the ... occasional little white glob & just a nasty acidic ~flavor.~

anyway..

Last April, I went to health services on campus. The lady was like, "yuuup there's yeast up there." She gave me an insert thing that should've killed "anything/everything growing in there."

Apparently it didn't work? ..

Should I just go buy some Monistat? :(

Is there, besides the obvious "go to the doctor"? Being without insurance and not made of money, I'd rather not, or if I have to, I'd like an idea of what to budget for the bill.

I have a recurrent (seems to start swelling right before ovulation and moves to throbbing until it dissipates mid-way through my period) mass in the lower right quadrant of my pelvis. I have had what I know to be ovarian cysts, and one that did pop- the pop was unmistakeable.

This has been going on for about 6 months, like cyclical clockwork- there's the mass, but not the pop at the end. I have a Mirena IUD, so I don't have the clue of increased or not menstrual bleeding, or any bleeding at all. Have backaches and some cramps and increased need to pee, but these are normal premenstrual symptoms for me, and nothing feels askew there. The mass feels about ping-pong ball sized, and I notice it when I move my pelvis- ie, sit/stand/stride. It is there, and throbs a bit, but doesn't really hurt, more an annoyance. And no, no weightloss or other alarming very abnormal things.

Ideas? I've gotten fibroids and cysts, because of the hormonal nature.
