hello. sorry i have been posting so much as of late but this cycle has given me many questions. Anyway, on to the point. I looked through the archives and did not think I saw anything exactly like this (i might be wrong though so if I am I am sorry).

Alright. I use the nuvaring and normally am very happy with it and have never experienced something like this before while on it for this long. I took it out last tuesday/wed and just got my period sunday morning-ish. However it is very very strange. I have insanely bad cramping that nothing seems to cure however what confuses me is the amount i am bleeding. Normally when I have this bad cramping I bleed very heavy. However this time I am barely bleeding at all. It is not tuesday morning technically and the cramping has not gotten any better and the blood still remains very little. We are talking 8 hours with a regular/light tampon (yes i am one of those people) and there was only a few drops on it. I would have just used a pad but they make me break out in a rash so those are a no no. Anyway has anyone else encountered this before and is this normal? I only ask because this is the first time this has happened and I have an appointment with my school's health center tomorrow morning and I was to know if I should ask about it.

I should also mention that I am very sick (cold/flu, and now a weird stomach issue and a re-occuring UTI - hooray!). Thanks as always. You all seem to be the best.

ps: sorry for all the bad spelling. I have been up for 24 hours and am in massive amounts of pain. not so hooray.

I'm on birth control (Yasmin) for irregular periods and dysmenorrhea (also suspected PCOS).
Since I'm not sexually active in the slightest, I haven't given a crap about the timing in taking these pills, as long as I do it every night.
Will this affect anything? I can't get pregnant and all I need from the pill is a regular cycle and fewer cramps.
I've only been on it for one package, and already I've noticed an improvement, so I haven't really cared.
But if I did take it at the same time every night, would the improvement/effectiveness increase?

mmk.. i dont know what this could be.
im asking you guys.
in the morning im going to call my gyno.

my discharge has been a bit on the weird side for a few days.
it looks like... snot. clear with some green hunks of stuff in it. its not chunky in any way, there is alot of it, and it really does feel like snot. its not gooey like any other discharge that comes outta me.
it freaked me out. it doesnt have a foul smell to it.
i just got over a head cold a few weeks ago, and i was on antibiodics. i had strep. last friday i went to the gyno and he said everything looked normal, all except my cervix was bruised andi had one spot still open (i was in for a post op checkout... i had laser removal of warts inside the vagina, so he looked really good) but he took a swab of some buildup/discharge there.

could that be whats coming out of me? he sent it out to the lab, so im not too sure if they will call me if i need to come back in to get a rx for something.

only 2 things come to mind when thinkin of this discharge. a yeast infection, or BV.
i am a bit itchy down there now that i think of it.
it woke me up in the middle of the night tonight.
i fugured id come and post on here to see what you guys had to say about it.

the last time i had sex was, last thursday. and my bf made me have multiple orgasms, could this be what it is? like all the stuff comin outta me finally?

thanks for your help on this!

so i had my leep procedure done yesterday at 8 in the am, and came home and was miserable all day. this is the week i'm suppoused to have my period, im on my inert pills with ovcon 35 by the way. since he scraped the cancerous cells out of me, and than proceeded to cauterize the wounds, will this affect the rest of my period? it started late friday evening, into early morning saturday, but hasn't gotten to the me needing super strenght tampons like it normally does. so what's the deal?

oh yah, this month i took like two or three pills a few hours late. and my pill packet says that a "missed pill" is generally after 12 hours and i know for a fact it wasn't 12 hours late that i took any of those pills. so do i really call those pills misssed pills? i normally take them at 2 in the afternoon, but ended up taking them like 3-5 hours late. last time i did that with just one pill in august i got a week of break through bleeding, and took a pregnancy test at the dr. and it was negative. so i highly doubt i'll be pregnant, but what do you guys think?

if it makes any difference, the four months i've been sleeping with my boyfriend he hasn't once cum inside of me, and he's finally gotten comfortable with doing so and has done it the last two times we have been intimate.

one more thing, sorry if it's so long. my doctor said to wait seven days before i have any kind of vaginal activity, but that almost seems like too soon after my leep procedure for everything to heal? should i wait another week, or follow his orders? i think that's it for now. thanks ladies <3

I'm on Marvelon. I take it every day at the same time. Last week, I was on my placebo pills. My period just finished on Friday evening and I was due to start my new pack on Sunday.

However, since I had yesterday off work, I got a little messed up and thought yesterday was Sunday, so I ended up starting my new pack a day late.

I had condomless sex with my fiance last night and I started my new pack a day late. Should I get the morning after pill, or do you think I'll be okay since I just finished my period?

I'm not sure if this type of post is allowed, and if it isn't, I will immediately delete it, but October is, among other things, Spina Bifida awareness month. Spina Bifida is a neural tube defect caused, generally, by a lack of folic acid in a womans' system. The government recommends that ALL women of childbearing age take 400 mcg of folic acid each day to help prevent spina bifida. If anyone has any questions about spina bifida or folic acid, please feel free to ask. Thank You!

Ok I have a few questions and I couldn't find anything similar in the archives.

1. Can a UTI be a symptom of an STD?
I know this girl who got an STD right after having sex. She went to a gyno and they found out she had clamydia. So that got me paranoid... because I had a UTI a few years ago, but I didn't have health insurance so I couldn't go to a doctor or a gyno. I ended up just buying something online called Mannose-D (basically a powder with a high concentration of whatever it is in cranberries that helps with UTIs).

2. Can a UTI cause kidney damage?
Since I couldn't get antibiotics for my UTI, it spread to my kidneys before I cured it with the Mannose-D, but it recurred once and then for a long time afterwards I had this occasional burning in my pee-hole (sorry I don't know what else to call it). Eventually, the occasional burning went away, and I haven't had any problems since, except that I get thirsty easier, and dehydrated easier. My throat gets really dry sometimes, especially at night. And if I don't drink a lot of water before sleep, I wake up dehydrated.

3. Is itching a sign of an STD?
A few months ago I thought I had a yeast infection, but it wasn't one. It just itched a lot but eventually went away. But the thing is, it keeps happening, every month. Almost on the dot, a couple weeks after my period, it starts to itch really bad and then stops around the time my period starts. I don't know what the hell is causing it.

4. Can pubes get so coarse they cause chronic itching (from shaving it off for years)?
This is one of my guesses as to what is causing the itching. I've been shaving it for years and it gets so coarse now when it grows back that I pretty much have to keep shaving... but can it possibly cause really bad itch every once in a while?

Ok that's it. I guess I'm just worried I have an STD or something. Thank you in advance for any help!

so ive been on the birth control method where you take 4 packs of pills continously so i would only have about 4 periods a year- ive been doing this since about may and it seemed to be working for me but ive started to notice a few weird things popping up that i think have something to do with my birth control method but i have no idea so thats why im writing to you lovely ladies! so first thing i noticed was extremely itchy nipples and this has been happening for about three months- no matter what i put on them, what bra i do or dont wear- they just keep itching! my boobs also feel really tender, and often. i have anxiety disorder, so when im about to get my period it gets pretty intense and i feel just really anxious, irritable and numb like im out of my body- i know this is just how my body works around my period and it has something to do with the hormone changes but the past three months i feel like im always about to get my period and im super anxious and i get crampy, my boobs hurt etc...the part that bothers me the most is the increased anxiety because it almost makes me function less mentally and i hate it. so my question is- is my new-ish method of birth control not working so well for me? is there like an extra build up of hormones that would cause this increased anxiety feeling because my body has to wait longer to get a period? anyone else experience this or have anxiety that gets worse with periods and hormone changes? and if so, what do you do to help it chill out a bit? i am on an SSRI to mellow my anxiety out but i would be interested in more natural methods to help me. also,i really like notgetting my period every month because i get migraines and i still get anxiety...help! =)
thanks ladies!

hey dolls :) i've got two questions.

1. where can i get a DivaCup in montreal? i simply have no idea which places sell them. any suggestions?

2. about a year ago i noticed that i get pimples once in a while around my vagina. i don't get them too often, but when i do they kinda hurt (if i touch them), and they're not the same thing as pimples on my face. any idea what this might be? i know it's not an STD, i'm still a virgin.

and yes, i will go see a gyno soon :)
[identity profile] lovethatlovage.livejournal.com
thsi question isn't exactly vagina related, but it's pretty embarrassing so i figured this would be a good place to ask. i think i've developed a small hemmriod, and it's not something i particularly want to talk to my doctor about. How much dicomfort it causes me comes and goes, and i think i first started noticing it at around the age of 16 (i'm 21 now). it does soemtimes cause me A LOT of doscomfort. i pretty much just been dealing with it all this tme. it seems like an abnormal thing to be going through at such a young age. from what i've read they really only give you treatments other than home treatment in very severe cases, so is there even any point in going to the doctor about it? i don't have health insurance, so it'd be costly.

So, I'm a little confused about birth control. I started my first pack (Lutera), ever, yesterday which was the first day of my period. I started with the white ones, and my "reminder" ones are orange. Since I started the white ones on my period, why is it that you are given "empty" pills for the rest of your periods? And when I get up to the orange pills, does this mean that I am not protected, and that the day I start the orange pills, will be the day I get my period? And will my period last for those seven days that I take the orange pills? I'm basically just confused as to how the white pills and the "reminder" pills work out and if I'm going to have my period for the same amount of days as there is orange pills (7)...

Also, when is the best time to get a new pack from PP? Will they give you a new one before you're finished?

Kay, thanks and sorry for being so clueless. The woman who gave me the pills told me absolutely nothing except when to start them. I read the directions but they didn't really go into depth about when you'd get your period and such...

Okay, so the memories don't work, so, i'm going to have to ask this, if it's been asked recently, please don't go crazy or anything.... just direct me to the post, and i'll kindly delete this one.

Okay, I know it's going to sound like i'm in high school with the immaturity that this girl has, but the group of people i'm discussing are all in their twenties...

Anyway, My "Friend" has been lieing about being pregnant. Not only to me, but to the rest of our friends and her ex. well, we're looking for some solid proof that we can take to her, and the ex, so he doesn't get sucked into her lie. We know that she is lieing because she told me she was on her period three days before she told us she was pregnant, but whatever. I'm also curious about other things, well, miraculously, she had a "misscarriage" the day before she hooked up with a good male friend of mine (and only about a week and a half after she "found out she was pregnant"), I know that there is some amount of bleeding after a misscarriage, and also that if she had seen a doctor (as she said she had), she would have been advised not to have sex for a while. So, here's my question:

How long does bleeding after a miscariage last generally (keep in mind the "pregnancy" was only about 2-3 weeks long i guess)?

And also, how long would a doctor advise that she abstain from sex, if she was not trying to concive?

any suggestions on what to do are highly welcomed :)

Lutera ?

Okay question I am starting Lutera when my period begins which is any day now.. I have not been on any sort of Birth Control for any period of time. I have some I guess rather general questions or to hear about some other's experiences on the BC pill. My weight has a tendency to fluctuate especially while under stress. Now its in a down cycle but my fear is the Pill is going to make me gain. I also have a somewhat extrmemely sensitive stomach I battle nausea with just anxiety alone and rumor has it the Pill can make you sick to your stomach.

Is there anyway you can NOT gain while on the pill things to avoid etc?
as well as the stomach issue is there a time of day or something I can do to ensure well as much as I can anyway not suffering from nausea or frequent dates with the porcelin god.

I have one child. I just entered into a new serious relationship and we are not planning on baby number 2 for atleast 2-3 years.

So any input is GREATLY GREATLY appreciated.
Thank you =O)

Towards the end of August, I stopped taking Ortho-Tri-Cylcen Lo because I felt it was making it more difficult for me to lose weight. The last week in August, I got my period. In the past few weeks, I've been waiting to get it and it is NO WHERE to be found. Is this common? Does it take your body awhile to regulate itself again once you go off the pill?

I was thinking that perhaps I had yet to get my period because I just started a new job and I've been under a lot of stress lately, not getting a ton of sleep. I also started dating someone new and have been getting a lot of, ahem, stimulation down in my nether regions. ;-) Does anyone have any input?

Also, can anyone reccommend a pill that does not make you gain weight/make weight more difficult to lose? Thanks in advance.

Okay, I had a fairly stable cycle for a goodly while now. I sat right on 30 days for a reasonable amount of time. Then last month I started 9 days early for no apparent reason, and continued to bleed (very lightly) for 4-5 days longer than normal. So now I'm 2 days late for my period. But I went back and checked, and if I had not started so early last month I wouldn't be due for another week. So should I be concerned about the late period (there was some not-entirely-safe-sex during this month) now, or is it possible I won't start till when I would have been due? I'm not stressing, just curious. My cycles always interest me.

Thanks in advance.

For a long time I've read about menstrual cups and the benefits. I always liked the idea of them, but being in the UK, they just weren't available for a while.
I also live with parents who are lovely, but in the dark ages where things like that are concerned. I'm 25, and the fact that I preferred tampons was completely taboo to my mother!
Anyway, several weeks ago I saw that Boots were selling Divacups, so I bought one. But Murphy's Law, my body decided to have one of those couple-of-times-a-year moments where it missed periods.
This morning I woke up with cramps and slightly bloody discharge, so I decided to use the Divacup.
It *was* odd to begin with. I had to cut the stem down, I had to insert it a few times, and then I found "my" method - the one that works for me.
I had cramps whilst at work, but I didn't feel any of the usual nasty, wet, yucky feeling that accompanies my period.
So I assumed that it hadn't come yet.
At lunchtime I took the cup out and I was shocked. It was nearly full.
Now, I'd assumed that when I eventually got my period it would be heavy. My cycle skips a month every 5 months or so, and I get one heavy period following that. Usually this period is hell, I get in a mess with pads and tampons, and I generally hate it.
I've had none of that.
No leaks. No discomfort. No sudden need to run to the bathroom before I leak out on to my clothes. None of that.
This little cup is going to change my life, and I'm ecstatic! LOL.

Thanks to all the positive messages about menstrual cups that have ever been posted. If I hadn't read about it here, I would never have tried it.

Okay, I really want to know. I grew up wearing these things all the time because I had discharge somthing like 2.5-3 weeks out of the month. I think it's part of why I started masturbating so "late" -- I always had something shielding me.

But anyway.

Is it okay to wear these things for long periods of time? scented/unscented? will the kind with baking soda do something bad to me, or bad to my partner if he goes down on me after I've worn them? I think that some of the paper-y stuff kinda rubs off from my wetness and gets up inside me, or at least in between my lips, and it doesn't look or feel so nice. Arg, I just want to know some real facts about these things for once. the packaging never tells me anything ...

I was just reading my new insurance to see if my birth control is covered and it says that they cover abortions because they are legal in California. I found this interesting and refreshing because for once an insurance covers women's *needs* and not just men's (viagra etc--I know not all do, but more cover that than abortions that I am aware of). And it didn't say it would only cover them if the mother's life was in danger etc, it covers them for any reason. I've never seen an insurance that did, and I'm pretty interested in this insurance now, but I won't have it much longer (even though I just got it) because I am moving out of California. Anyone else's insurance cover stuff like this?

I had an appointment today due to a bladder infection, and while there ended up discussing several things with my gyno.

1. I am going to finish my current pack of BC and then switch to Ovcon 35, which was prescribed to me today (this is my third try with BC pills, as so far the other two I've been on haven't worked with my body very well.) Is there anything in particular that might be unique to this pill, as far as side effects, weight gain, etc? I know that it all really depends on how it interacts with my body, but I don't know anyone who has is or has ever been on it.

2. I told her that I've been having some pain during sex, so she did an exam. The pain is pretty general -- I thought perhaps my cervix was just being hit or that it could be related to my bladder infection, but it's not a direct pain like that and it's pretty persistant. I've never had much discomfort during an exam before except for when they're messing with my cervix for pap smears and what not, but today was genuinely ouch-y. It also hurt a bit more on my left when she was pressing down in different spots (I also noted that I occaisionally get quick, sharp pains there and haven't been able to find anything that may trigger that.) She looked a little concerned and scheduled me for a trans vaginal ultrasound on Saturday morning. She didn't mention what she thought could be the problem other than it sounds like it could be ovary-related, due to the location. Does it sound like it could be a cyst or is there something else that might be equally likely? I'm not too worried about it, I'm just curious.

Also: It's a marvelous irony that the paper that came with my prescription for Nitrofurantoin notes that extended or frequently repeated use could cause a bladder infection...

So I skipped my period on my last cycle. I'm currently into the first of the placebo pills of the pack I used to skip my last period with. However, I ended up starting bleeding about a week into those pills and have been bleeding since then. Gah, this sucks, haha. Now, I know you're supposed to wait for a week, until the placebo pills are finished until you start a new pack. But I was wondering if I could start a new pack tonight and still have protection? It would be a great benefit to me if I could stop my period by this friday, and I wouldn't be stopped by then if I stuck with the placebos. Does anybody think that starting a new pack would be a stupid idea or see it just aggrivating my irritating three week bleeding spree? I'm in a triphasic pill. :) Any comments or suggestions would be great.

I just saw a battery operated bikini-line shaver in CVS...two brands actually. Looks kind of like that electric eyebrow shaver if you've seen those.... and it was in with the 'private feminine needs' section so I got to wondering. Would that be safe further down the bikini line? I'm REALLY wary about having anything electric downthere so I think I'm way too afraid to try it, but has anyone else tried it?

I posted yesterday about my colposcopy and biopsy that I had done, and I wanted to add some advice for anyone who's going in for one: make sure that you have some water-based lubricant at home in case the Monsell's solution dries you out. I don't know if my doctor accidentally put too much in or what, but my poor vaginal canal was so dry last night and this morning that, when I gently inserted a finger, it felt like it was filled with tissue paper. Ugh. It was also very uncomfortable to sit or anything. Lube helps a lot. And as long as it's water-based, it's okay to stick it into a healing vagina.

Does anyone else masterbate just to make sure they still have sensation there? After my endo started getting really bad (about 3 yrs ago), the muscle spasms included in sexual things became too painful and I spent so much time dealing with my endo (and school and work and...) that I haven't found someone worth dating since then, which means no sex of any type. While I doubt it's physically possible, sometimes I wonder if, having gone untouched for so long that I'm used to it, perhaps I've just become asexual. When I think that, I'll masterbate just to make sure I still enjoy at least the beginning sensation, even though I get 1/2 way to (what I assume) is a climax and have to quit due to pain.

Is it just me?

Peeing!

Ok, Im already toilet trained but after experiencing UTI, I would like to maximise my restroom visit, post-sex, etc.

I THOUGHT I knew how I could empty my bladder fully, but looking on the internet I found something that said otherwise and thought I would check with more reliable sources. Like, lots of real women :)

As far as I know, the best way is to lean forward, elbows on knees, feet apart and lean like Im reading a paper. After emptying my bladder I wait a little bit, relax my muscles as best I can, and make sure it's gone.

However, I saw something that said I should sit up straight and make as though I was leaning right against the wall, so that my peeing isn't 'lazy' and THEN use the sitting forward technique.

Ive become really preoccupied with peeing correctly...and would like to hear how everybody else is doing it, to avoid UTIs and stuff. Especially since I end up getting up a lot before trying to fall asleep because I feel like I'm not 'done'.

So, shoot :D Wait until I start asking how everyone wipes...

Sexual Health History:
Tested for stds (full rounds) 1 month ago without any problems
I have ovarian cysts and I am very well aware of what I can do to help them. This pain is unlike that of the ovarian cyst pain.
I use Depoprovera injections for birth control
I have been with the same sexual partner for the last 2 years, we have a monogamous relationship
I have never been pregnant

Onto the problem
I have this dull pain in my abdomen right after an orgasm. It lasts about 30 seconds to a minute. It feels like what I think a contraction or something like it might feel. It feels like maybe my uterus is flexing it's muscles or something. I never orgasm during vaginal penetration, usually my partner and I work on me after sex because that's the way I like it. The pain after orgasm has been happening for a while, maybe a few months? I wasn't paying attention to it until a few months ago so I can't be sure. Anyway, I'm not sure if it is normal or maybe it's somewhat common? It's not like a cramp or the constant of ovarian cysts, it's dull and relatively short. It never fails though. Any ideas?

OK, bear with me here, I know this sounds a little strange!
SOmething felt strange with me earlier today so I put a finger inside to check that my coil was in place etc- and my finger came out smelling of teeth!

You know the smell you get if you haven;t flossed lately and you do? or if you are at the dentist, the smell of his hands?

And its really strong.

Now I've searched the FAQ, and everywhere else i can think of (not surprisingly you don;t get a huge amount for " my pussy smells like teeth"..)and it's not a smell i found associated with any stds.

But I've Never smelt this before- and I'm usually pretty in touch with the moods of my bits.

HAs anyone ever heard of anthing like this?

any advice gratefully appreciated,

Hello all,

I couldn't find mention of this here and maybe it's common knowledge but it was something that surprised me when my GP told me so I thought it worth sharing.

I use a wheelchair 95% of the time. I also have depression (not related to my disability) which is substantially worse around the time of my period. I take fluoxetine (generic prozac) for it. Someone suggested to me that trying the pill might help so I brought the subject up with my doctor.

Apparently (he said) it is not recommended that wheelchair users/women with restricted mobility take the pill because they are already at increased risk of deep vein thrombosis and add in the risks the pill can bring it could be potentially dangerous. He said the potential risks outweigh the benefits which I agree. I was told that the same is true of all forms of hormonal birth control. I didn't realise that my risk was higher because I'm a chair girl or that this applied to all types of hormonal birth control and so thought there may be others who needed to know this.

at this time I am still a virgin and so don't need it for birth control. I am unsure if the situation (risks v benefits etc) would be different if I did want it for that.

Anyone else been told this or something similar?

~Emma
