Check-up!

Hi - I just came across this community tonight, and from what I can tell so far it's wonderful and I'm so glad to have found it. Especially since I have a few questions... ahem.

I turned 19 this spring and I've never had a check-up "down there" -- really, I'm not sure how to go about making an appointment for that sort of thing, or even who to make it with. I considered my regular doctor, but I rarely see her anyway and I'm not all that comfortable with her. Should I be seeing a more specialised doctor? (I can't believe I don't know these things...) There's a Women's Health Clinic in my city that I think I'll call to make an appointment with, but again, what do I say to them over the phone?

Mostly, I'd like for them to do just a big check-up; for STDs, just in case, and to make sure everything's where it should be and is working fine. : P Also, a pap smear; I'm a bit worried about that one.

And, lastly, what should I expect? I'm pretty nervous about the whole situation and I feel so silly about that, considering my age and everything. I feel like I should shave myself and be sure to smell like roses on the day of my appointment, but I'd like to be more comfortable than that. Any stories regarding first times and what to expect would be comforting, if anyone is willing to share. : P

Thanks very much in advance!

Huh?

I ate tuna fish, not a lot, nearly one week ago- Each time I pee it smells exactly like tuna fish! Not the icky vagina smell associated with period time, but fresh from the pouch tuna.

My urine always had a tendency to pick up on what I eat. I smelled turkey from my cooter for a week after last Thanksgiving...

Who else out there has experienced this? Any idea to what this is caused by?

not vagina related, but women's health (mental, and otherwise in my case) related. it speaks to me.

Ok, short view into my "sex life"...I was seeing this drummer of a band for like a year or so, and we were strictly friends with benefits. The sex was SO incredible and always lasted at least 30 minutes...even when we were short on time! *laughs*

Sadly, he moved away to another state to join another band, and for about a month...I was sexless. *poo* :o(

NOW!!!! I met this WONDERFUL guy who may even be cool enough to be "boyfriend" material. After both of us realizing we had the "hots" for each other, one night we decided to go to the next level and have sex (protected of course). He hadn't had sex in like 10 months (so he says) and well. I was terribly disappointed. The entire sex session had to of lasted about 3-4 minutes total...and for someone like me who is a SEX MANIAC that was one of the biggest let downs.

So...I decided to give him another shot the next day...he MAYBE lasted 5 minutes. He kind of stopped in the middle and goes "I need your cock ring". *sighs* I didn't want to risk getting up and finding it and him losing his erection so I was like "bite your tongue or something..." too late....game over.

Anyone got ANY advice on how I can make this man last longer?!?!? I mean I wanna wake up the next day and STILL be sore...HELP ME PLEASE!!!! this sexaholic can't do 5 minute sex sessions!!!

P.S. It's ok to laugh...I find this post kind of funny myself. *cries* :op

I have been thinking of making the gradual move to using a more environmentally friendly menstrual product but I have some hesitation with a few.

I was thinking about using the pads that you can use over, wash, etc. but I live in the dorms most of the year with a roommate and since I have a very, very, VERY busy schedule (20+ hours of work + 20 credit hours + club meetings, scholars, etc.) I will never get around to cleaning them out until the end of the week.

I also gave the Diva a thought. Now don't get all Diva-praising on me, I know it is a great product, but not for everyone. I have reservations about ANYTHING inside me. I can't even use tampons. I don't particularly care for sex (but that could be because I can't orgasm from anything either heh). None of it feels very natural. I walk funny with tampons in me and I constantly have to check and pull them out and put a new one in out of paranoia. And as much as I love my body, I have a huge fear of germs, so I don't care much for touching myself even in a bathroom setting.

Any suggestions? Anything that should make me reconsider those two options? Or should I stick with conventional disposable pads, etc?

menses

hi, i was directed here by someone in another community. my mother never really took the time to speak with me about my period. its always been off schedule so i dont really think about it much.
okay, sorry, on to my ? now...
i recently got my period after a five or six(told ya i didnt pay that much attention to it...lol) month hiatus. its been really heavy and clumpy. not huge clumps or anything like that, but clumpy none the less. when i urinate, the water in the bowl turns a really bright pink, which isnt normal for me. usually when i do have my period, its light and goes away after about three days. this time ive been going for about six days and its been continually heavy, and i mean consistant. i use pads right now, only because im still unsure as to how to choose tampons, and the pads have lasted maybe three hours, unless im laying down for a long period of time(say sleeping).
is this all normal? do i need to see a doctor about it? should i even try using tampons? are the clumps normal?
i do have an eating disrder, which is one of the reasons ive been so irregular, so does this add to any of these thing? im so confused right now and really looking forward to your answers:) thanks in advance.

Hi~

We're trying to expand the archive info on shaving (though we do have some great info over at vaginapagina.com).

I found this Shaving Tips section over at the-clitoris.com (which rules if you haven't been there).

It seems like there are a wide variety of methods for hair removal. Do you have other shaving/trimming tips you'd like to share?

I just have a question about...the position of the vagina. Are the vagina and the urine hole next to each other, or behind one another? I am curious because I have tried my first tampon and could not remove it, and needed a mirror and noticed the position of the holes.

Another problem is that I have just tried to use tampons, but the Playtex Gentle Glides did not work, they would not fit. I got Playtex Slim Fits and it went in okay but I could not get it out. I pulled the string but it would not come out. I have to squat over the mirror and grab the cotton part and pull hard for a while for it to come out, basically manuver it out with great pain. It was stuck inside me. I dont like tampons at all and am afraid to use it again. Why did this happen?????

So apparently Tampax is going to have scent strips in their magazine ads. You know... so you can lift up the flap of paper to smell the sample (like perfumes). I personally think this is ridiculous. So now we get a chance to test which flowery scent to shove up our vagina?
(My friend who interns for Elle magazine says one of these ads will be in their September issue.)

I am about to have my last period on seasonale and next week, I'll be switch to the ring. My gynecologist tells me to stack them for three months, and then have my period for: hopefully with more success than seasonale, where I could go no longer than 6 weeks without basically having an extended period.

I am so excited!!! I'll never have to wake up early on the weekends to take a pill again!!

Also, I'm at college in the philadelphia area, and in about a year I'll be applying to medical schools. I'm terrified of the MCATs, but for you medical folks out there: I want to go into gynecology. Can you do that without also doing obstetrics, or are they a package deal? And does anybody know any medical schools that have particularly strong clinical gynecology or internist with women's health emphasis out there? I don't even know where to begin looking. I want to stay in Philly, or go to NYC, Boston, DC, or possibly the northern west coast.

Anybody been through this process, or know a good med school student forum?

EDIT to show that I have reasonable command of english

What to normal breast lumps (ie: milk ducts, non-cancerous cysts) feel like versus cancerous breast lumps? I'm 19 and I despise doing monthly breast exams because I ALWAYS find lumps that worry me. Thanks for your comments!

Thanks to everyone who replied to my last post regarding chronic UTIs :) It's nice to know that I'm not one of the only ones out there with this problem. I don't know anyone personally that suffers from chronic UTIs, so I thought I was a freak, lol.

Well I've had chronic UTIs for about a year now. I honestly got them one after another, my body just became immune to the medicine I was taking to get rid of them. I drank so much water, peed after sex, drank cranberry juice, and nothing helped. Finally my gynocologist reccommended a urologist and he put me on Cipro. He told me to take one everynight before bed, and after awhile I could just take it after sex or if I felt like I was starting to get symptoms.

So far it's been wonderful. I've been on it since about September and I haven't had ANY UTIs! :) Except for now..

I stopped taking the Cipro altogether because I just started the NuvaRing and I was getting yeast infections. My gyno told me that it was the Cipro and the NuvaRing combined and told me to stop taking the Cipro (She never liked the idea that I was on it in the first place), so I did.

So today I go to the bathroom, and of course I got that horrible burning sensation again when I peed. This time it was REALLY bad, and I knew right away that I had gotten a UTI.

After peeing I was fine, then I peed again and it hurt even more so than last time. After peeing, I got HORRIBLE cramps in my lower abdomen, and I was running to the bathroom every 5 minutes. I checked the toilet paper multiple times to make sure, and I realized that there was a good amount of blood in my urine.

I'm in so much pain right now that I can't stand up for more than 5 minutes. It's to the point where I just want to cry from the pain. I just went to the bathroom again and there was more blood this time, and my back was hurting earlier. (This might just be from my job though)

What do you guys think this is? I'm guessing it's a UTI. I've never had blood in my urine, out of all the UTI's I've had, so this concerns me. And I've never been in this much pain.

HELP! :)

Thank you ladies!
