Was reading an article in a womans magazine which stated that Thrush originates in the intestine and that eating probiotic drinks helps to keep the balance and prevents recurring thrush.

Since I am taking high level anti biotics at present I have been using the probiotic drinks on sale at my local supermarket and have found that i haven't had a recurrence of the thrush i had a few weeks ago.

I have a quick question. My hubby and I have been trying to concieve and my period is late. But i've recently noticed an itching down there, and I'm thinking I might have a yeast infection.

Can having a yeast infection delay my period, or might I actually be pregnant?

Thanks ladies, I wanted to ask before I got my hopes up =)

Anyone here know of FTM transgender-friendly gynecologists in New York that *aren't* at Callen-Lorde?

It's for my partner and it's somewhat of an emergency. Thanks in advance.

Okay. I'm on the patch, and I change it on Sundays. About a month ago, we went to our mobile out in Eastern Washington, and I was on my period but I wanted to go swimming. So instead of leaving the patch off, I put the next one on on a friday (two days early)so I could swim and not dirty my bathing suit. Then, I wanted to change it back to Sunday. So the next week, I changed it on a Saturday. Then the next week, I changed it on a Sunday to get me back on track. The day after I put the last one on (monday), I started bleeding. But really light, and more pinkish. Then on Tuesday, I got three dark red spots in my underwear. Wednesday and Thursday I'm still bleeding lightly.

(Also, somewhere in there I was apparently out of patches. So when I was supposed to change it on...Friday, I couldn't change it until Monday when I got back to school.)

What's going on? Could I be pregnant? I know that sometimes you spot when you're on birth control, but I also know that you can have your period when you're pregnant.

Hi everyone... I know I'm probably not going to get any clear-cut answers here, but any related experience you might recall would be welcome...

Here's the deal.

I'm trying to conceive so I stopped taking the pill... this is my 3rd month off the pill. I've been reading stuff about FAM and fertility signs and it seemed interesting so I thought I'd try and check my fertility signs to see how my cycle is behaving after getting off the pill.
I've been able to feel the changes of my cervix, the way it feels more open and softer near the middle of my cycle... that's cool!
What bugs me, however, is that I find no trace of that slippery, stretchy mucus that is supposed to appear near ovulation. I may get slightly more discharge mid-cycle, but it's not really slippery and certainly not stretchy. More water-like. The only time I get somewhat stretchy discharge is when I'm aroused, which makes me think it's something else. Cervical mucus doesn't come in response to arousal, does it?

I once was off the pill for about 6 months and I remember mid-cycle I would get a LOT more discharge (can't remember if it was stretchy, I wasn't checking back then)... so that's what I am expecting. And not getting.

So my question would be : if I don't get that particular cervical mucus, does it mean I'm not ovulating? Or if I do ovulate, will it stop fecundation from occuring? My doctor said it might take a few months after getting off the pill, before I start ovulating. So could it be that I'm still not ovulating because of the pill?

Another interesting bit is that I used to have long-ish cycles (about 35 days) before the pill and last time I went off it. But since I got off the pill this time, my cycles have been 28 days and 26 days long. I guess that could be a sign that I'm still "influenced" by the pill?

I recently finished some medical classes, and I learned that Alka Seltzer can be used to treat a UTI. My professor swears by this. If you just drink some at the onset of symptoms, they usually clear up

Edit:
[livejournal.com profile] below_the_belt mentioned giving a location would help, I'm in Minneapolis, MInnesota.

my friend just found out she might be pregnant, and she has no money to speak of for an abortion, and who knows if her ex boyfriend will pay for any of it.

How can she get an abortion if she doesn't have the money? I know Planned Parenthood sometimes offers a sliding scale, but last time she went there they insisted on the full rate for everything.

she's not completely sure she's pregnant, she just spotted for one day when she was supposed to have her period. She took a home test, and the results looked like they might be positive, but they were faint.

I found this cool article in a magazine in my school cafe. It's only short. The content might be old hat for some but I found it cool.

I am currently looking in to getting an IUD so I can get off hormonal BCP. So, I was looking through my calendar of when my periods began and ended. My cycles have ranged from 21 days to 37 with periods that were two days of spotting to a full week of heavy bleeding. This has been going on for about a year now, and I am just noticing it really. I take my BCP at the same time every day and have never missed a day, and I've been on it for a while now. Why the irregularity, should I be worried?

I just called Public Health (planned parenthood affiliate) to make an appointment for a consultation with a gynecologist for the IUD (PAP Smear and STD tests included). So I will ask there as well, but is there anything specific I should ask to be tested for?

If you need more info about me feel free to ask.

If something along these lines has already been posted and answered, I would appreciate some pointing in the direction of where to find an answer, otherwise, I need help! =)

So I've been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for around 9 months or so I believe. This past month, I decided that I'd change the scheduling that I take the pill and instead of doing "Sunday start" I would start doing the "Day 1 Start" (just for the sake of peace of mind for myself when I'm sexually active). However, I have just run into a problem! I started my period today. Now, normally, I wouldn't care, it wouldn't be a problem. However, it's starting on the 23rd day of the pack, and I was almost positive that it wasn't going to come until next week sometime!

The reason why this is a problem: it's going to be more of a problem in about a month and a half. You see, I'm going overseas on Monday, and well, when I get back, I'm not going to have seen my boyfriend in 3 months. You can imagine what I'm planning already, haha. I just realized though, with counting the dates if this happens again, I'm going to be starting my period again the DAY that I get back. Not good! Not good!

So what I'm wondering is...should I go back to the "Sunday start"? It seems to me, that even though I started on the "Day 1" I still got my period about 2 days after I started taking the sugar pills (which is what normally happens on "Sunday start"). Or is there even maybe a way that I can take my pills in which I won't even get my period when I come back??

Any help on this topic is appreciated!

Loette

Questions to those on Loette: how long does it take for it to be effective? I've been taking it every morning any time from 9:15AM - 9:45AM - will this affect its effectiveness? And has anyone had any side effects? Pamphlet says 7 days, but I'm wondering if that includes contraceptive effects (since it's used to treat acne too).

And I know a couple of weeks ago I said I wouldn't go on the pill, but I decided I would (better to be safe than sorry!), and I've been taking them since last saturday.

Thanks :D

I am very confused. Is it normal to get that gooey egg yolk stuff when you are on the pill? I have been on the pill for 6-7 years and have always gotten it but this month it has been more than normal. I didn't get my period this month due to stress and I took 2 tests and they were negative. I started a new pack of pills when I was supposed to, even though I didn't get my period. There have been alot of posts about ovulation lately and I was wondering how it all works when you are on the pill. Thanks

I've got a pretty big sugar tooth, but I'm trying to cut back because I think I've got a mild YI. I know that the bacteria in your mouth can't metabolize xylitol, but can yeast? I keep unconsciously grabbing hard candy and whatnot so I need some sort of alternative.
[identity profile] ammalouithe.livejournal.com
Okay what's the deal with animals and menstruation? Apparently dogs don't, they bleed a little when on heat but this isn't menstruation, but other sources tell me they will "menstruate" once a year ... one source says that only apes and some monkeys do, then somewhere else it tells me rats bleed every five days ... anyone know a comprehensive source of information on this?
Thankyeh.

My stepsister has mono, and I think I got it from her; not positive yet, but I feel quite crappy today and I was around her quite a bit yesterday. Out of curiosity, does it do anything evil to your girly bits, i.e., are you more prone to yeast infections or anything when your body's already fighting off one infection?
[identity profile] city--love.livejournal.com
Hey guys, it thats time of the month for me and while I'm not bleeding as heavy as I usually do which is weird.. I'm around the 5th day of my period (usually lasting a complete 7 days) and while I dont have to wear a pad, when I use the bathroom there is a spotting EVERYTIME, its not the usual blood that you see when your period is closing out, its new fresh blood..um yea very descriptive but I'm really worried that this wont clear up after 7 days, any answers?
[identity profile] after-four-days.livejournal.com
I don't know whether or not I got my period or not.

That sounds strange, doesn't it? But is this normal? Has this happened to anyone?

Basically, this month I didn't get the usual symptoms of my period (usually breast soreness and general soreness, as well as really bad cramps). This time I was very emotional, and instead of getting my usual heavy flow I just got some spotting for a few days. it was really, really light spotting, barely noticeable.

Now I have a bit (not a lot) of this really gooey, cum-like substance which is on the yellow side. Is this normal? Does anyone else get this at all? Does this mean I've ovulated or not? My period isn't always regular, but when it does happen it's heavy, so I'm a bit worried.

I'd really appreciate it if anyone can help :) thanks

Alright ladies. I need some help...advice...anything!

I checked the memories about low to no sex drive while on bc...I found that bc can cause low sex drive, but I need help with the boyfriend issue and no sex drive.

I've been having a problem with the no sex drive for about 3 months (I'm on Yasmin by the way) and I just recently told my boyfriend of 2 years what was going on. I felt really embarassed about it...losing your sex drive sucks ass. Anyway, that night we was totally understanding. Said that we'd get through this together, all that jazz.

Well, last night I was feeling rather sexy. We were over at his house watching a movie and once the movie was over I rolled over and snuggled next to him and started kissing his neck and whatnot. As we're laying there his stomach growled, so he went to make noodles. I felt really shot down and got kind of upset. By the time he made the noodles and ate them I had to leave. He was acting really weird and I tried to get it out of him what was wrong but he wont talk. (Damn boys and their needs to keep everything inside.) So I went home, and when I got home I checked my e-mail and there was an e-mail from him. It basically said that he felt like I was a tease and he wanted someone more aggressive in bed. I replied, explaining AGAIN that it wasnt ME, it was this stupid birth control. I dont know if he doesnt believe me or if he doesnt care, but he made me feel totally guilty about it all. Like I was doing this on purpose to piss him off. I got upset, and now we're both pouting about it. I refuse to apologize because I didnt do anything wrong. And he wont apologize because he feels like I'm a tease.

I want to make him understand. That I have no control over this. I've led him to different web sites to read about it, and I have a gyn appointment on wednesday, at which time I'll get switched to another bc. But for now, I'm wondering how to handle this situation. This low sex drive is killing my relationship. Do I just not try to get into contact with him (we have class together during the week so I'll see him on monday) and he said that theres no sex until this is fixed so theres no let down. Man, just typing this I realize what an ass he can be. This whole situation really pisses me off and he's acting like a complete baby. He went through a fraternity process where he couldnt have sex for 2 weeks, and I supported him through it all...but now that the tables are turned and I need his support, he just seems to think I'm being a tease and shooting him down. I just want to shake him and make him understand.

Has anyone else gone through this? I'm wondering how you made it through with your SO, and if you have any recomendations on what bc I should get put on next? I really only know about yasmin and seasonale which I was on before. Any advice really would help (besides telling me that my boyfriend can be a pain, I already know that and I plan on having a great big talk with him once all this blows over.)

Thanks ladies.

Lately (in the past few months) I seem to get this burning sensation in my vagina after orgasming from intercourse, sometimes even while the sex is still going on after a while. It never used to happen, and I don't have any other signs of an infection or anything. I started taking Depo-Provera last summer, but this popped up over the winter.

I have sex pretty infrequently and I guess you could say it takes some getting used to every time it happens because I'm not in the habit. I'm not sure if that would matter or not. Am I maybe allergic to my boyfriend's semen all of a sudden?

It's wierd. After I orgasm, the vagina burns and the whole area is tender, and continuing is just not possible once I reach that point, it hurts to even touch the thing. But when an orgasm has not happened, like if we have just been going at it for some time, the same burning sensation occurs, but not the tender painful feeling. I don't know what's up, this is a totally new problem and I never noticed anything like this before.

We have both been tested for STDs and been monogamous this whole time. My only ideas are that I developed an allergy to his semen and even precum, or that I might have some kind of infection, or the Depo is making my girly parts extra sensitive in a BAD way. Maybe he has worse penis hygiene than I thought and my skin is sensitive to something on his wang, but I doubt it, his hygeine is acceptable as far as I know and we live together.

It's putting a damper on sex because sometimes I orgasm before he does, and any motion or touching down there after that point is really painful, and I can't let him continue humping me :( He says he's never known a girl to be like that, and neither have I. Waaah!

I had a papsmear two weeks ago because I'm going on birth control. It wasn't particularly painful (just relatively uncomfortable) and everything went pretty smoothly. The discomfort lasted until the next day, and all was well.

A medical student was doing the papsmear while the gynecologist was directing him. There was a point where the doctor had to stop him and remind him of what to do so he wouldn't pinch, and at this point, I felt a severe wave of discomfort.

However, since then, I've been getting these sharp pains that feel like they're at the opening of my cervix. The pain is completely random and it only lasts for a couple of seconds. These don't feel like my normal cramps. On top of that, it feels like my cervix is heavier and is lower in my body. I flexed (kegels-style) and it's not quite painful, but it definitely feels like something's off. I've had absolutely no sex drive simply because the thought of something else being in there makes me feel emotionally/mentally uncomfortable.

I would go back, but at this point, it feels like another papsmear isn't what I need. :P

okay, this is not vagina related, so feel free to skip or point me to a community where it might be more appropriate, but i know you womyn are a wealth of info so i figured someone here might be able to give me some pointers.

i'm interested in trying a hair removal product for *leg* hair, and i'm sorta looking at that new thing, called VEET. has anyone used this? if so, what was your experience? if not, what DO you use for chemical hair removal?

secondarily, i am using self-tanners this year. can i apply my self-tanner after removing the hair, or should i just scrap this plan entirely and go for shaving?

i've never done either of these things before, and i'm attempting to surprise my honey, but i don't want to end up all patchy and chemical-burned.

thanks in advance!

ETA: thank you so much for all your responses!!! i was frankly surprised that the most consistent response was that the skin gets burned and there's still hair left behind. i imagined a slew of success stories. i'm so glad i asked. thanks again, everyone!

Hi, my name is Jenni and I am a student from Mass and I am presently on the board of Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Foundation in Rhode Island and we are looking for people who might be interested in helping out. We have been looking for people in the RI area but if you are not around RI but want to help there are areas that you could work on. (For some examples you can look at my live journal.)

I have turned to your group because I realize that woman's health is a focus for you and a focus we are trying to develop is education about early detection and being educated about your own bodies. If you know of any other groups which may be good to contact i would love those groups as well.

To be completely honest with you the organization was only founded last year so we are a new group and only have a few dedicated members. The website is www.gloriagemma.org, for more information and if you have any questions you can reply here or in my journal.
