STDs

I recently had unprotected sex, on Friday evening, and was wondering how soon would any kind of STD or other issues be found with testing?

He said he was STD free, and I'm on birth control, but I have met a nice guy I really want to be sexual with, and I won't feel comfortable doing that until I am sure I am STD free.

Its frowned upon to use "clean" in reference to STD free in this community. They may ask you to reword your post.

You've left a 'clean' in there - it's near the end of your second sentence.

The reason we don't like to use 'clean' to mean STD-free in here is because it implies that people with STDs are 'dirty' - we know that most people don't mean to imply that when they use the word 'clean', but we really want to remove the stigma associated with STDs.

Sorry, I realise that may have come off a bit abrupt - unfortunately I don't have any information for you that'll help you with your actual question but the people in here are full of knowledge so I'm sure you'll get lots of helpful answers soon. I just thought I'd explain the policy of not using 'clean' to you - it's a useful thing to know.

You'll have to wait for six months to have definitive results as some infections won't show before then. I say get tested now, then use latex barriers for six months from now on and get tested again in October.

This website lays out each infection's incubation period. (http://www.stdresource.com/concern/c1_d_3_a.php#two)

Also--and maybe this is just me being cynical--in the future you may want to ask for evidence or details about your partner's STD status. If you feel like you've known him long enough and can trust his word, then fine, but sometimes people underestimate how long it's been since their last test, or their behavior in the interim.

Take care!

I had a similar situation about a year ago (well, I had a bad reaction between a new medication and alcohol, and ended up with a blackout I wasn't expecting, and wasn't entirely certain that the sex I had that day involved condoms.. so not quite like yours but similar worries.)

Planned Parenthood told me that chlamydia and gonorrhea tests would be accurate in two weeks, and current HIV tests are accurate in about three months. I don't know the incubation periods for other stuff but the link above me certainly does.
