Hello! I have a few questions about Diane-35. My dermatologist prescribed it today for my acne.

- I live in the US and Diane-35 is not available in the US. I have to order this prescription from Canada. Has anyone ever had any experience with ordering prescriptions from Canada? What are some trustworthy websites/pharmacists you have used? Any bad experiences? Is this illegal?!

- Has anyone ever taken or is currently on Diane-35? What have you liked/disliked about it?

- Diane 35 has an estrogen component. My family has a history of breast cancer (on both my mother and father’s side, as well as both males and females in my family). Does estrogen exposure directly relate to an increase risk for breast cancer? I’ve been on HBC for about 6 years but now that I am getting older, I’m starting to worry more about developing breast cancer. I’m also not too sure about the amount of estrogen in Diane-35, if anyone know this, and can compare the amount to other BC’s, that would be awesome!

Don’t know if this will help, but I’m 22, and I am currently taking Tri-Sprintec. Thanks so much!

I've taken the UK version of it for ooh... must be 12 years now. It stopped the painful acne, slowed the hair growth and made my mental state stable. I went off it for a few months in 2006 and it was awful, spots, oil and depression to beat the band.

I'm weighing any risks against the fact that my life would be miserable without it. The insert in the pills does describe the risks and benefits of the dosing. I've ordered from Inhouse Pharmacy before, they're prompt and reasonably priced.

I can't help with the specific medication, but my family orders our allergy med from canada. It's prescription in the US, and we do have prescriptions, but it's non-prescription in Canada and cheaper. I think my dad gets it from canadiandrugs.com or something like that, and we've never had a problem.

1- It's not illegal, but it is inconvenient! There are other high-estrogen, low-androgen pills out there: http://contraception.about.com/od/thepill/l/bl_choosingapill.htm (under "Acne"). Talk to your doctor about it!

3- Tri Spirintec has 25micro grams of estrogen in each dose, whereas Diane-35 has 35. But that's not strongly linked to breast cancer risk anyway. Statistically, while you're on HBC and for 10 years after, you're more likely to have breast cancer diagnosed than if you weren't on HBC at all. But, that's probably not due as much to an increased risk of developing breast cancer as the correlation between being on HBC and getting other regular healthcare. Not to mention the connection completely vanishes 10 years after discontinuing HBC, so unless anyone in your family developed breast cancer before menopause, you're probably quite safe.

I can't help with much--I'm a Canadian and have been taking Diane-35 for about 9 years, with a 2 year break. I can't BEGIN to tell you how much of a difference it made. I was about to be prescribed Accutane because my skin was soooo bad and within 6 months (but noticed effects within a couple of months) my skin was completely clear. I only get the odd zit now and again which is miraculous. The best is that I didn't have any of the other issues associated with the pill. In fact, I feel a lot better when on it mentally and physically, which is why I went back on after a break (everything went back to bad). I know there are some higher risks (blood clots) but I balance it out with all the other things that are good and just try to be vigilant and be healthy in other ways.

FWIW, in endocrinology class, we learned that HBC was not linked to breast cancer.

I get my thyroid meds through canadadrugs.com. They are easy to work with and with some meds they are one of the cheaper sources. I got mine delivered to Nevada in less than a week. I see they have 1 month of Diane 35 for 31.50 and 1 month of the generic for 18.41. Hope this helps.

I've been on Diane for about 4 years now and, as everyone else has said, it's great. Cleared up my acne really well and periods are a breeze. I asked my doctor about any risks from taking it long term, and she said the risk of developing breast cancer is pretty low.

I was put on Diane 35 for acne, about 3 years ago. I was only on it for 3 months as it didn't make a single change in my skin and completely ruined my sex drive. I was single at the time, but still. Didn't have any interest in anything remotely sexy. I heard somewhere an ingredient in is (or was) used on convicted sex offenders to curb their sex drives. Mind you, this is only a rumor I heard.
