Hello! I have a few questions about Diane-35. My dermatologist prescribed it today for my acne.

- I live in the US and Diane-35 is not available in the US. I have to order this prescription from Canada. Has anyone ever had any experience with ordering prescriptions from Canada? What are some trustworthy websites/pharmacists you have used? Any bad experiences? Is this illegal?!

- Has anyone ever taken or is currently on Diane-35? What have you liked/disliked about it?

- Diane 35 has an estrogen component. My family has a history of breast cancer (on both my mother and father’s side, as well as both males and females in my family). Does estrogen exposure directly relate to an increase risk for breast cancer? I’ve been on HBC for about 6 years but now that I am getting older, I’m starting to worry more about developing breast cancer. I’m also not too sure about the amount of estrogen in Diane-35, if anyone know this, and can compare the amount to other BC’s, that would be awesome!

Don’t know if this will help, but I’m 22, and I am currently taking Tri-Sprintec. Thanks so much!

1- It's not illegal, but it is inconvenient! There are other high-estrogen, low-androgen pills out there: http://contraception.about.com/od/thepill/l/bl_choosingapill.htm (under "Acne"). Talk to your doctor about it!

3- Tri Spirintec has 25micro grams of estrogen in each dose, whereas Diane-35 has 35. But that's not strongly linked to breast cancer risk anyway. Statistically, while you're on HBC and for 10 years after, you're more likely to have breast cancer diagnosed than if you weren't on HBC at all. But, that's probably not due as much to an increased risk of developing breast cancer as the correlation between being on HBC and getting other regular healthcare. Not to mention the connection completely vanishes 10 years after discontinuing HBC, so unless anyone in your family developed breast cancer before menopause, you're probably quite safe.
