[identity profile] andonthisday.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] vaginapagina
Back in May, my GYN put me on Nuva Ring for what she thinks is endometriosis. She told me, because I wasn't using the ring as birth control, I could skip the period free weeks regardless of what the website said. So I had gone from May until a week ago (November 14th) without a period. Last Saturday, two days after I put a new ring in, I randomly got my period. I took the ring out, thinking something was terribly wrong and decided to just bear with the pain and get my period.

I usually only bleed for about four days, but this time it's been a week and doesn't seem to be letting up. AND - last night out of nowhere I started experiencing overwhelmingly bad cramps. I couldn't move, my legs were shaking and I eventually threw up the pain was so terrible. I took three ibuprofin and once the pain subsided, I fell asleep by 12.

Around 2AM, I woke up and felt something absolutely disgusting and slimy coming out of my vagina. I ran to the bathroom, and found this huge nasty unidentifyed object on my pad. No longer in pain, I took a picture of it in case I had to go to the doctor and went back to sleep.

What could this be? The picture is absolutely gross so anyone squeemish is SERIOUSLY advised not to look at it. I'm a fan of medical shows and it grossed me out. * There is absolutely no possibility of pregnancy. *

What could it be? I am completely baffled and disgusted.

Oh & I would pass them almost every period. It was severely painful for me! After I had my first pregnancy it stopped.

It's a decidual cast. It is somewhat common in women who are on hormonal birth control.

It looks like a giant chunk of uterine lining. I get those ALL the time, and they cause me horrible cramps.

Totally a uterine lining chunk -- it's identical to some of the many pictures in posts tagged in our menstruation tag. (http://community.livejournal.com/vaginapagina/tag/menstruation/periods) If you scan that tag, and the posts and comments, you'll find about a dozen or so photos of other VP users' uterine lining.

Believe it or not, it's actually a fairly normal occurance, and appears to be more common in people on hormonal birth control (especially if they're relatively new to HBC or even a given brand)... and as you'll read in those other posts, they can hurt like the dickens to pass.

When your period or withdrawal bleed finishes, your body starts laying down fresh lining for the egg that could be fertilised in your new cycle. Even on hormonal BC your lining can still build. So usually you stop your Pill or remove your Ring, the lining ripens and softens so it can be shed, and your body says "EVERYTHING OUT!" and little chemical signals, prostaglandins, trigger your uterine muscles to contract to jiggle the lining free. You get your bleed which is made up of all the ripened bits of lining that have been loosened by the cramping. But, if you stack BC the lining keeps on building up. When it is finally bleedy time it can be harder to break-up the thick layer that's settled, and you can get bigger than normal lumps of lining coming out. Perfectly normal, even if they are a complete pain to pass. I used to get them with every period before my Mirena. My desk at my old workplace even had teeth-marks in the wood from me biting down to stop screaming heheh. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it doesn't happen to you again!

I really must say... that's the most impressive uterine lining specimen I've ever seen! If not for seeing pictures posted by others, this would have completely horrified me (both on the internet and if it had happened to me). I hope your pain is over and that you are feeling better about the whole situation!

I would like to extend my congrats, I don't think I would have lived through the process of that leaving my body. I agree with the other comments about it being uterine lining. Checking out the other VP member posts like this might help you feel a little better.

also on nuva ring

I am also on the nuva ring and have been getting chunks like this during my period it worried me the first time, but now I am used to it. Sometimes they are larger or smaller, but they all feel like they are crawling out. Kinda eerie but like I said, I got used to it. It is vaginal lining and not a big deal.
