I'd like to find an alternative to my pads, something I can reuse and won't feel guilty about using. I know about the menstrual cups but I'm not sure I'm comfortable with something I'd have to insert (I don't like tampons), though I might end up trying it anyway.

What methods do you know about? What's worked for you?

Edit: Thanks for the advice everyone!

Cloth pads are fantastic. There's www.manymoonsalternatives.com and www.lunapads.com that I know of. They come in all sizes, even pantyliner size, and the pads come with insertable liners for extra protection.
I LOVE them. I wash them by hand, hang them to dry, and they're good to go again in no time. I've had mine for about five years now without a problem. I've always heard that as long as you wash them by hand like you would your delicates, that they can last even up to ten years and so far so good!

There are so many more options out there then just those two! To you and the OP, if you search "cloth pads" on etsy.com you will come up with many many many more options. clothpadreviews.makeforum.org (http://clothpadreviews.makeforum.org) is also a great place to start. :)

I've used menstrual cups, sea sponge tampons, and reusuable pads. Although regular tampons are totally different than cups or sea sponges, if you don't like inserting things, you might want to try cloth pads. They're pretty awesome. :)

I agree, cloth pads for the win if you're uncomfortable with inserting anything! I usually find myself a bit too lazy to use cloth pads myself, since I can't even keep up with my own regular laundry.

To be honest, I thought the idea of anything being inserted (which is what drove me away from even trying tampons) was horrible and nearly mortifying, but I do love my menstrual cup! I know this is a very biased voice, but I think anything is worth a try, especially since various cups go on sale for about $15 at some places online.

Wow, you sound like you're looking for the cloth_pads community (http://community.livejournal.com/cloth_pads/)! I've been using cloth pads for almost a year and I think they're fantastic; I would never switch back to disposables, though I am considering getting a cup for swimming, etc. For a really comprehensive website with info. on alternative menstrual products, check out www.ecomenses.com.

Check out http://menstrualcups.org/ for menstrual cup info. The gross factor really intimidated me at first, but I finally decided that nothing was grosser than continuing to throw away all my pads and tampons, wasting our resouces and filling up the landfills. I was going green no mater how closely I had to confront my body's natural procsses!

You know what? It wasn't at all as disgusting as I feared, and now I can't believe I was ever worried. It helps that the cups give so much freedom, you're not tied down to bathroom availiabilty, and I can wear whatever underwear I please.

I personally like gladrags. They sell 100% cloth pads, organic, unbleached, or in fun colors.

I love cloth pads! They're all I use. Check out Etsy.com (http://www.etsy.com/search_results.php?search_type=tag_title&search_query=menstrual)etsy.com and search menstrual. They have a lot of inexpensive nice ones there.
