Hi, I'm new here and I've had issues with what I was convinced was recurrent bv and yi's for about 2 years. I promised myself when I made significant progress, or when I was cured, I would share my experience with as many other suffering women as I can. I know what you are going through, and with persistence, it will be cured. Just keep trying.

I just recently went to a Planned Parenthood to talk to yet another gynecologist about my vaginal infection nightmare. I explained to her everything; I had bv and yeast back and forth for about 2 years and haven't truly been cured of it for the entirety of my struggle. I've tried everything from antibiotics (orally and vaginally. Lots of them), drinking baking soda water, boric acid suppositories, using garlic suppositories, to taking acidophilus and folic acid supplements. Some of these things kind of helped, but didn't really fix the problem, or even make a huge difference.

Luckily, I had an appointment with a very kind and smart gynecologist that caught onto something other obgyns and doctors did not. It turned out that I had a yeast infection, big surprise, but I also had something called trichomoniasis. Trichomoniasis is an STD, but it often doesn't show symptoms. If it does, it may be similar to a yeast infection of bv. You can get more information about trichomoniasis here: http://www.cdc.gov/std/trichomonas/stdfact-trichomoniasis.htm

The reason why she saw I had trichomoniasis and the other doctors didn't is because she didn't let the culture she gathered from my vagina dry on the slide. She immediately swabbed me and put the culture on the slide and went to go look at it. In that order. She told me that if the culture is left to dry, the trichomoniasis will die, and thus, not be seen.

So the trichomoniasis diagnosis has been a big step, I think. I am positive this will make it easier for me to be cured of this constant infection I've been struggling with. Just as an fyi, I was treated with a "megadose" of metronidazole (4 pills in one day, instead of one). And I was also given fluconazole for the yeast infection. I've just now taken the medication, so I have no update on progress, but I will post soon enough to follow-up how successful my treatment was.

If anyone has any questions about some of the other treatments I've tried, or about anything regarding this post in general, feel free to comment. I want to help as many women as I can- I know how frustrating this can be.

I made this account specifically to post here.
I recently was very irresponsible and had unprotected sex with a guy while very very VERY drunk. I don't even remember how it started or ended so I am not sure if he pulled out. I also gave him a blowjob.
This happened late friday night, so more like saturday morning, and I got the morning after pill (Next Choice) on monday. (That was as soon as I could get it).
I should have gotten my period last week or this week and it still hasn't happened.
Now I'm really scared that I might be pregnant.
The rest is a bit gross so I'll do a lj cut )

So, I have read about the different blood tests that are available for detecting antibodies to the oral and genital herpes viruses. From my understanding, the more widely available tests don't give the most conclusive results and can sometimes give false positives/negatives, and then there are other less available tests that are more highly accurate.

A week or so ago, a situation came up where I felt it would be necessary for me to get tested for the virus, though I have never experienced an outbreak (and I would like to know my status either way).

So, I went to the doctor - and mentioned that I wanted to be tested for HSV-2. She looked at me strangely and asked "why", I told her the situation, and she said:

"Well, we need to take a sample from a present sore in order to test for the virus. There is no such thing as a blood tests that tests for the HSV-2 virus."

I was baffled. I had seen countless entires in this community, and other information on the web that documented this blood test in detail. So I persisted. "It's my understand from doing personal research and through other people who have told me about it that XYZ"

And she said, very rudely I might add, "Whoever gave you that information was lying. There is no such thing as a blood test that tests for antibodies to HSV-1 or HSV-2"

So I said "Oh, do you mean that this test isn't available in Canada or...?"

"No, there is no such thing as that test, I have no idea what you are talking about"

Assuming I was wrong, I came home feeling a little confused and irritated, and decided to get back on the internet and do some more research. And I found PLENTY of information about this test. Am I crazy? Why did this doctor tell me that the test doesn't exist? I called Health Services the next day and complained to the director about my experience because I was rather offended by her in general. The director said she would do some research and inform all of the campus physicians of the issue.

Basically what I want to know is...why did this doctor lie to me? Is it really possible that she has never heard of the test? I feel like it's her job to be informed and not to be rude in situations where she is clearly ill-informed. Or am I crazy; are all of these resources that I've found "fake"?

I am ultra confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated <3

Hello ladies.

I'm going to make an appointment to get tested for STIs. I don't have any symptoms, so what is it possible for me to get tested for? When I call to make the appointment or when I go in for it, will I need to give the doctor a whole list of things to test for as opposed just saying 'Everything!'?

Also, I'm getting tested now and planning to again in 6 months. I had unprotected PIV sex with a new partner in the past two months and I read that it can take 6 months for some STIs to show up as positive. Is that true? (EDIT: Just to clarify because I tend to not make sense. Is it true that I may have contracted something from the very recent unprotected PIV sex but a test wouldn't show it until June?)

Thanks!

So, I'm 19, in a monogamus relationship of 2+ years, we were each other's firsts, I have a paraguard IUD and I chart my cycles.

Last week I was raped by a friend staying over my house, he used a condom, and we didn't have contact genital to genital before he put it on to my memory.

I want to get tested because I asked him to and he refused (I didn't know he was this shitty of a person, and we certainly aren't talking now) but what timeframe should I use? Also, what could I have gotten with a condom? (I am familiar with STIs but haven't focused on them since I am in a commited relationship...)

Also, how should my boyfriend and I protect ourselves other than condoms until we know the test results? Should we worry about genital-mouth contact? How often should I get re-tested?

This really stinks... I never wanted to worry about all this stuff.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

So, I was looking through the STI testing tag, and couldn't find exactly what I need to know.
I went on the pill two months ago--at the time I was frank about my sexual experience to date and tested for gonorrhea and chlaymidia in addition to getting my pap smear. The doctor saw nothing unusual and my test results were normal.
My boyfriend, whom I've been with exclusively during this time, and I want to have unprotected sex. I know I'll test positive for HSV-1 (I started getting cold sores at the end of this past summer). Should I get tested for other things first? What? What can someone be tested for? How does this work?

ok so i aplogize for updatin everyday...

but i have a new problem...

my bf got tested, got his results, and they were fine. but then they called him back, and said that they made a mistake, and said he has chlamydia.

so i'm angry for several reasons:
1. i've given him head recently (3 times, 2 times he came in my mouth, atleast partially), in the past week and a half...the only times i have EVER done it with ANYONE.
2. the doctors fucked it up (although i guess we should've waited, but they told him the results!)
3. he told me he used protection in the past...i trusted him...(he's only had 2 partners, 1 was a one night stand, the other wasn't)

so i looked some stuff up, and it said that it was rarely passed through oral...

http://www.scarleteen.com/infection/risk_1.html

that one said you couldn't even get it.
so obviously i should still get tested, but have any of you had issues with this in the past? has anyone gotten it from just oral? what do you do to get rid of it?

i'm just scared. maybe this is the reason my stomach has been feeling different? (that or im just nervous for other things) and would my period be effected by this, if i do have it?

ugh i never want to touch a guy again.

I looked through all the resources associated with this site, and did NOT see anything. If I missed it, feel free to link me to the correct FAQ link or whatever.

About how long does it take to get the results of your STD/STI test back from Planned Parenthood?

STD Testing

Hey Guys,

The other day, my SO went to the doctor's to (hopefully) get an STD test just to put my mind at ease. Thing is, when he got into the doctor's office, he explained his circumstances ( no previous sexual partners, no signs and symptoms of any STD's etc etc ) in which the the doctor replied with "It would be a waste of time to give you the blood test (for STD screening) " My SO and I were both virgins before we met, and had had no other sexual contact with anyone else, but I just wanted to be on the safe side anyway. My question is I guess is that should I be worried or just take the doctor's word.

Thanks in advance xoxo
