STI testing

So, I was looking through the STI testing tag, and couldn't find exactly what I need to know.
I went on the pill two months ago--at the time I was frank about my sexual experience to date and tested for gonorrhea and chlaymidia in addition to getting my pap smear. The doctor saw nothing unusual and my test results were normal.
My boyfriend, whom I've been with exclusively during this time, and I want to have unprotected sex. I know I'll test positive for HSV-1 (I started getting cold sores at the end of this past summer). Should I get tested for other things first? What? What can someone be tested for? How does this work?

Aside from gonorrhea and chlamydia, and a pap smear (which looks for cervical abnormalities that can be caused by HPV, though having a 'normal' pap isn't an indicator that you do not have/have not been exposed to HPV), you can be tested for syphilis (done via blood draw), trich (wet mount, though it sometimes shows up on a pap as well), HIV (blood draw, finger stick, or inner cheek swab), and some practitioners/clinics will test for HSV (herpes) via blood draw, though that remains a contentious point in the medical field. As you already know your HSV status, that may not be a beneficial test for you at this point. You should be aware though that you can transmit HSV to your partner via oral sex even when you don't have an active cold sore outbreak.

Good luck with testing! :)

HIV and Syphillis, I test for these in addition to gonorrhea and chlamydia. Don't forget to have your boyfriend tested as well.
