So are there any actual health benefits to wearing panties? I haven't worn any in probably more than a week, simply because they gekt icky SO fast and I'm too lazy to do that much laundry. When I think about it, the only use I can think of for underwear is holding pads in place, and insurance against gusts of wind while wearing a skirt.

So am I missing something? Is there any good reason to wear underwear month-round?

I just wear underwear because I would rather that get icky than a pair of jeans or whatever else I was wearing!

Yeah, pretty much just keeps your goods from being seen in a skirt (or your buttcrack in low-rise jeans), and keeps discharge off your other clothing. But they can also be quite pretty and fun to wear!
I only wear them about 2/3 of the time, and almost never to bed.

Agree with the above posters... Plus, jeans can rub in very uncomfortable ways. I use to go commando for a long time, but I always had to be careful of my jeans. I'm still in the habit today of adjusting them as I sit down. I also shaved everything back then, so it could cause some ugliness from rubbing. Now I just stick with thongs and trimming, and keeping everything tidy.

To avoid doing laundry, buy more underwear! ;)

But that costs money, and going commando is free :-)

I always worried about the jeans, too! I only go commando in skirts because I fear what pants and zippers could do to my unprotected bits. o_O

This is what my mum always said to me.
Woman tend to drip a little after they go to the bathroom, so personally, I would rather wear underwear, so I could change my knickers, rather than spend a day with pee patches on my trousers or skirt.
Also, if you shave or anything down there, trousers are gonna be uncomfortable to rub against, and if you don't shave, well, if you wear jeans then you got the risk of getting your pubes caught in a zipper! Ouch!

Also, if you get discharge, it would be alot better to change your underwear, when sometimes it can leave stains, and imagine that in your favourite trousers? Or a skirt! It would be down your leg! (sorry, tmi)

If it's a laundry thing, just get those cheap multi packs of underwear and then you won't need to wash them as often because you'll have lots!

I don't think this is true for all women. Some have naturally heavier discharge all the time.

I have about 15 pairs, so I always run out of other clothes long before I run out of underwear. Sometimes I change them twice a day to keep feeling fresh.

Underwear keeps your clothes cleaner. It keeps your pants/skirt from being in direct contact with your butt, and if you have any discharge at times other than your period - most women do - it keeps most of it from touching your outer clothes. And it's designed to be comfortable against sensitive skin. Most pants aren't.

I haven't worn underwear for 2 days straight in about 5 years.. i shave i wax and none have ever given me problems.. the only time i wear underwear is like with a skirt to my boyfriends parents house or to the doctors so he doesn't think i'm weird ;) i do get a lot of UTIs but i wouldn't blame that at all on my lack of underwear..

BE FREE my friend! :D

I believe that UTIs can be caused by bacteria being spread from your anus to your urethra when wearing trousers without underwear.

Honestly, unless you're wearing a super-short skirt or low-rise jeans, there's no need to wear underwear. It's so much better without!

From: [identity profile] jocelina.livejournal.com
I wear them when I'm at a point in my cycle when I'm likely to have discharge that might get on my pants because I find panties easier to wash than pants. That's just me, though!

I think it's a personal thing -- if you don't feel the need, I see no reason why you should. :)

As kind of a site note, the Museum of Menstruation has an interesting article on the history of European underwear here (http://www.mum.org/underhis.htm) that you might like.

I wear underwear because I have heavy dicharge just naturally, no matter what, and going commando allows the discharge to get into my pants and get wet and sticky and uncomfortable, so that's why I wear underwear. That, and they're so darn cute!

There's that, and the fact that I enjoy ridiculously short skirts, and I can't imagine that people would appreciate me flashing them every time I sit down, or if by chance I should fall. XP

I don't think there are any actual health benefits to wearing underwear, per se - I've never heard of any health issue that can occur from going commando.

Oh! And another possible reason to wear underwear, though not a very common one:

If you work in a health-related field (I work in a vet clinic) and you're wearing thin cotton scrubs... personally, I appreciate any extra barrier that comes between the scrubs and my sensitive bits in case of contact with pee, poop, blood, or any other fun animal (or human) discharges. :-P I've thought about going to work commando before, but in the end I'm like, "...and what if that underwear kept fluid X or Y from getting to my precious vagina?" and then I put it on, haha.

ooooh...you know, i've never thought of it that way, and I wear scrubs to work! (and I work in an OB/GYN office, where there are lots of mysterious fluids!)

I've kinda stopped wearing underwear except for a few days here and there (like when I'm at work) since around April. Haven't had any problems yet. I think it also helps that I tend to wear boyshorts which leave a lot more breathing room for the vagina and after not wearing underwear for a week, you realize how freaking uncomfortable they are. I'll bring a pair with me if I know I'll be having sex with my boyfriend and then going out (but only because we don't use condoms and the uh, leftovers even after peeing can sometimes make things uncomfortable in jeans) but otherwise, I only wear them to work or if I'm wearing a skirt or my period's due. One thing's for sure: it saves me lots of money when I go clothes shopping (I love buying panties) because I don't wear them anymore :P

I can't not wear underwear.
Going commando makes me feel incredibly uncomfortable, probably because I don't want to flash anyone my ass or vag :P

I love underwear!!! :D

Plus I don't really like looking at other peoples asses (unintentionally) and being able to see their jeans or pants tucked into their ass because they aren't wearing underwear or because they are wearing a g-string. It just isn't nice! but that is just my opinion :)

I only really wear underwear when my discharge is rather heavy, and I used to not even then, until it started getting REALLY gross and on my thigh. Ew. TMI.

Too many previous posts for me to read to check if this has already been said, but here's a good reason for wearing underwear: if ya don't, you can get cervical cancer from the bacteria, like I did. Yay!

It got taken care of and I'm fine, but all my doctors agreed it was a result of my commando habit.

I've read that it's healthier to not wear underwear sometimes to allow your vagina to breath or something like that. But I wouldn't want discharge in my jeans or pants. I like to rewear my pants once or twice so I'd be doing more laundry if I didn't wear underwear. It's also more healthy to wear no underwear than to wear dirty underwear. Though they shouldn't get dirty that quickly. I never wear underwear if I don't have a clean pair. If I end up not having extras with me when I sleep over somewhere I just take them off otherwise I feel like I'd get a yeast infection or something (no idea if this is true).
