Hello everyone!

I have a problem with thunder thighs... mainly that i have them. This usually isn't a problem, as i live in pajama pants or jeans (which merely wear out the soonest between the legs, as they rub together quite often.) It never really bothered me.

But recently, I came home from school and went back to my old job, which has changed our uniform from Dickies to...a skirt and fishnets. (classy, I know.) After working a shift tonight, my thighs were sore, and i figured it was just a bit of irritation that I can deal with. But after getting home, i noticed that the insides of my thighs are rubbing together so much, that they are beginning to bleed. (I'm assuming the friction of leg-fishnets-leg is what's doing it.)

So... short of bandaging up my legs or wearing shorts (which would show a bulge under a too-tight skirt), is there any way to chafe less? Preferably cheap and easy, as Mr. Piggy Bank is waiting for me to bring home the bacon.

Thank you!

Could you wear nylons under the fishnets for further protection? The ones the sell for dancers are thicker than most.

I second this. It makes fishnets much more comfortable. You could even put body glide (prevents chafing) under the nylons, perhaps.

Can you tape gauze to the insides of your thighs?

biker shorts work well for me.

or, try a looser skirt? something more broomstick-ish so you can have air and a pair of shorts?

What about lycra bike shorts under the stockings? I find that works well for me.

maybe you can put some baby powder between your thighs? you can try patting down your thighs after so the whiteness of it doesn't show up as much.

I was gonna sugest something along the lines of bike shorts either that or depending on how long the skirt is you may be able to get away if you can find em, stay up fishnets instead of the full length ones.

These may work better because its not gonna cover where you thighs are. apart from those 2 options the only other thing I can think of is sports tape which is thin and just tapping the inside of your thighs where it rubs.

Oh my, I have the same problem. I just try and stick to pants while it heals, lotion helps a bit in helping the thighs glide a bit better, but it requires reapplication.

and I know what you mean by pants wearing out where they rub together, I've had to throw out 2 pairs of jeans in the past 3 weeks due to holes in that area.

I totally second the biker shorts (it got me through many years of Catholic school uniforms) and Monistat makes anti-chafing gel and though I haven't tried it in a high-stress restaurant environment, it lasts a good 8 hours for me.

I know it's none of my business and is totally off-topic, but I'm curious what kind of place you work at? It's just because a Dickies uniform just sounds so run-of-the-mill nitty gritty, and skirt and fishnets sounds like a rather drastic change from that! :P

But, if you'd rather not say, that's cool. :)

Oh, I see where you said so. My bad!

But yeah, tough stuff. Thank goodness my waitressing job was a fastaurant-type place!

Antiperspirant/deodorant on the thighs helps prevent chafing/soreness whenever I wear a skirt. I'm not overweight but my thighs are still too friendly for it to be comfortable otherwise :-P I'm not sure if that will help with the fishnets, but it will help keep things smooth and sweat-free. Usually I find a single application of deodorant can last me several hours (6-8), and it seems to wear away faster when I sit with my legs crossed as opposed to standing up and walking around. But it's been a lifesaver for when I wear skirts -- otherwise I'm sore and red and chafed by the end of the day.

dude, be careful what kind you use, tho. i tried that once, and it was too strong... so i just didn't sweat, and the inside of my thighs swelled and it was wicked gross.

my thighs chafe, and i actually use a really really thick lotion, like the body shop's body butter or the aveeno for babies kind... it lasts a good 6 hrs, and i have a small tube of cocoa butter in my bag to use to reapply.

Sort of like the idea of biker shorts, but I wear men's boxer briefs when I have to wear a dress or skirt. Totally not sexy, but they are really comfortable.

Nappy rash cream will help heal your poor thighs. Just slap a bit on at night before bed, it'll soak in by morning so you don't get it all over your clothes.

Don't know if this helps..

Here in Australia we have a product called 3B cream ie breasts buttocks and between the thighs - i have found that after using this for a while that i don't always need it anymore, whether it changes the skin i don't know, i still use it when out walking for long periods and it seems to do the trick, so if you have a similar product where you are, give it a go!!

I run marathons and vaseline is my life-saver for chafing--after 26 miles, every seam feels like sandpaper on my skin! There are body glide products, but I've found that vaseline works as well and is cheap.

At night, I powder chafed areas to help keep them dry while they heal

I think you have plenty of options from the comments to help out.

But one thing I've found to lessen the pain from the chafing is Solarcaine (or anything meant for sunburns). It burns like mad when you first put it on, but it dries everything up and the next day it shouldn't hurt anymore. :)

Hey,

Alot of people have reccomended lycra, but i suggest that you go more the spandex route.

Difference? spandex is more shinny, while lycra is ... i guess you could say matte. If it gets a bit sweaty adn icky (as i know it will in a restaurant....i hate food services) it tends to stick to itself and ride up and stuff.

Spandex doesn't! It's a bit more expensive, but i LOOOOVVVEEE it. Look for Champion brand at a sport check. It's GREAT. A bit more pricy then lycra, but i think you will notice that it works better, and lasts longer.

I am a long standing believer in spandex, as i'm a skiier and a rower. And likewise, if there is chafing during a 20k ski workout (cross country) it's just not fun.

good luck!!! AND if your uniform is causing health problems, go talk to your boss? i'm sure that he would let you substitue pants for a skirt if you ... get a dr. note or something?

I second Body Glide (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=156267&catid=10579&trx=PLST-0-SEARCH&trxp1=10579&trxp2=156267&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-PLST-0-SEARCH). Most of the runners I know use Body Glide, though Vaseline might work just as well. The thing about Body Glide is that it would probably be more convenient since it comes in a deodorant-type stick. It shouldn't be a problem to reapply that during a normal bathroom break.

Okay - my fiance has a chafing problem also between his thighs and we did a few things to help..

He got what are called sliders...they're boxer-brief-like-underwear that are made tight and of slippery material (usually worn by athletes to prevent chafing) - you could pick up something similar like bike shorts or just go ahead and get the guy underwear, lol. Whatever works.

I'd also suggest (as some others have) using some regular nylons under the fishnets. It'll be a similar effect of biker shorts - which will help your legs slide instead of rubbing.

Umm...they do sell many anti-chafing creams. Mostly good things I've heard are about Monistat but I'm sure there are other good ones out there.

********But for the big one - LEAST INEXPENSIVE - my fiance uses DEODORANT! Yep - deodorant. It has to be something without too much fragrance. He uses Degree which works well. He just rubs it on the inner thighs and it helps him a TON during 9-10 hour shifts on his feet. Although, he also has to wear those smooth underwear to help also...but the underwear alone weren't doing it. So I'd definitely say, in a pinch, the deodorant works. I used it recently when I'd been out all day at the beach and my pants happened to get wet and cause chafing - and it WORKS!

Hope that helps :)

P.S. Before the deodorant thing, he used Vaseline and it was terribly messy and didn't work as well. I wouldn't suggest it. But since the deodorant, his legs have gone from painful and swollen to nothing wrong - unless he forgets the deodorant!

I have this problem too-if you will be wearing a skirt for a period of time when you will be moving a lot, i recommend wearing shorts or bloomers (there so darn cute!) under a skirt. Another thing that helps me wonderfully is to take a stick of deodarant and apply it to the inner thights that rub together-it sounds off but it works wonders for me and the chafing.
