okay, so I realize this is a quite juvenile question and I apologize for it. I'm just desperate here.

my fiance and I are in a long distance relationship. I came home this weekend to see him, and he subsequently lives in the same town as my parents, so I sleep at their house and I will be spending time with them this weekend.

he and I were extremely happy to see each other and now, as a result?

hickeys.

my super conservative parents will FLIP (as they have done in the past and "demanded" that they see no more on my neck, which is just ridiculous considering I'm 21, but whatever).

I need to get these gone, FAST. I realize I can use scarves and things to try and hide them but I need remedies that will actually reduce the bruising asap. I'm willing to try most anything.

thanks in advance to anyone who helps.

I've heard people talk about putting a spoon in a freezer and when it's super cold to put it on the hickeys.

good luck! no fun having to deal with controlling parents.

My dad (of all people!) told me that if you put a metal spoon in the freezer, and then hold the frozen metal against the hickey, it'll go away.

I've never really tried that, though.

Witch hazel works to fade bruises, if you can get some. It's usually available at health stores.

I've also heard things about teabags (black teas work best), and Preparation H.

theatrical makeup is your friend, it can cover ANYTHING(i recomend bennye). you can also try dermablend or any scar cover product. I'll post again in a bit after i dig in my herb books to see if there is something else

All the herbs and such that are good for bruses take more time to prepare than i remember. Herba santa(Eriodictyon californicum) is the only herb I think you will be able to get a hold of and it doen't take a month and a half to prepare. Its neative to the western US. Check out your local helth food/herb store. If you can get fresh leaves its best but if not take the dried leaves, break them up, and put them in a cotton cloth bag and add hot water(you're making tea)then put the bag on the bruse or just skip the bag and put the mush on your neck and cover with a cloth. Witch hazel is the next best thing.

You can get a product from a co-op or health food store called arinca gel, and rub it into the hickeys. Arnica helps bruising go away much, much faster - it might not be a matter of hours, but a matter of (a few) days instead of (a few) weeks. When I put it on fresh bruises (like on my newly-walking, always-falling-down toddler), it makes a huge difference - the bruises are hardly noticeable the next day.

Brushing them gently with a soft toothbrush also helps. I know, I just had to use that trick. Stupid neck eater...Anyway, I did that and the cold spoon and it helped, but they didn't go away entirely because I waited too long. So do it asap and apply concealer and foundation!

Physician's Formula Stick Concealers in green and yellow. The green will minimize the redness, the yellow will minimize the purple bruising. A liquid coverup to smooth out and maybe a pressed powder on top of that.

Arnica cream is brilliant for reducing bruising quickly. My community midwives even recommend it for post-birth to help with all the swelling and bruising "down below" (her words!). :)

What I heard from my boyfriend was to put spoons into the freezer and let them get really cold or better yet something like peas, then get a lipstick cap and twist it hard onto the hickey (not the side with the hole) push and twist it on the hickey hard because what it does it separate the blood and then quickly add frozen peas/spoon.

i may have this reversed but
putting coldness on them dulls them..but they take longer to heal
putting warmness on them will make them darker for a couple days..but they heal much faster..

i have heard that putting visine on a zit helps the redness go away because it helps blood vessels contract (hence it helping get rid of red eyes), it might work for hickeys?

hehehe, i can just picture you now, a bag of frozen peas on your lap, a cold spoon in one hand, a visine bottle in the other and a lipstick cap on the floor next to a preparation H tube and an arnica gel tube.

good luck! :)

Well, I've never had a hickey, but I make bruise coloring disappear faster by gently (GENTLY) rubbing the bruise to give it more circulation. It decreases the discoloration for me in HALF the time. :)

Good luck!
