Sunless tanner + Bikini Area

I'm sick of being so pale, and since I have relatives who have had skin cancer, tanning is right out. So I want to try a sunless tanner. Are they safe to use on the bikini area? Are they effective? I'd like to use it on the area where I shave - will it be horribly irritating on that skin?

I've never used any kind of sunless tanner before, so any other suggestions you might have would be great, too.

yeah meghan's idea is probably the best one. i'd get a decent brand product though, like 'tan-do attitude' from bath and body works. i'm madd pale too so trying to get a hxc tan all at once would turn me orange. i've heard that the endless summer one is good too. i know you can get that in a drugstore.
