Sunless tanner + Bikini Area

I'm sick of being so pale, and since I have relatives who have had skin cancer, tanning is right out. So I want to try a sunless tanner. Are they safe to use on the bikini area? Are they effective? I'd like to use it on the area where I shave - will it be horribly irritating on that skin?

I've never used any kind of sunless tanner before, so any other suggestions you might have would be great, too.

That would be great, but I'm in a teeny-tiny town with no car, so I would only have access to that every other month or so, and I really doubt that they last that long. How long do they last, anyway?
