Hey everyone. This isn't a question pertaining to the actual procedure, as I have had one before. But last time it was SO PAINFUL. I've heard girls say it is just like a pinch, but when my gyno put the solution on, it burned, and then when she took the actual samples, it was terrible. Now after 2 more abnormal paps, I'm due for another. So I guess I have a couple of questions.
What have you girls done to calm yourself? Or cut down on the pain? I took an 800mg Motrin last time and it did nothing. Maybe i just have a sensitive cervix? :P
Also, I went from abnormal paps, to a biopsy where there was nothing abnormal, and I still have abnormal paps. Is there a reason for this? Any input would be helpful. Thanks!

Date: 2006-09-11 08:49 pm (UTC)I was really scared when I had mine done. I was 6 months pregnant. I was scared of them telling me I would have to have a c-section. I was scared they would tell me I wouldn't be able to have any more children after her. Honestly, there was nothing I could do to calm myself. I just distracted myself and tried to not think about it.
I had an abnormal pap, then an abnormal biopsy. The doctor said seomthing like, "The results form the biopsy came back the same as your pap. There's something not quite right but we aren't sure what." We decided to just wait until my 6 week post partum pap to decide a course of action. That pap came back normal though. He told me that it can sometimes just be caused by hormones.

I'd suggest taking Aleve before hand instead of Motrin. It seemed to help me. Also, don't pay attention and look at the instruments and what is going on.
Breathing techniques are a lifesaver too. And as a previous poster mentioned, call ahead and see if maybe you can get something stronger painkiller wise.
Good Luck. *hugs*

There... that sounds better.
