Me again.
So.
I got my period today.
And I put in a tampon, using your advice from before.
But,
It felt weird when it was in.
Is that normal?
Like, I could feel it.
I got it in all the way, but it felt weird so I took it out.
??

Yeah they feel wierd going in. Once it's in, you probably won't feel it much, if at all.

If you could feel it, it might mean that you didn't actually get it in all the way. What makes you sure you did? (This isn't intended to disbelieve you; I'm just wondering if this is might be something that needs further advice.)

Also, it's possible that the particular brand of tampon isn't the right fit for you. I have a short vaginal canal with a cervix that drops pretty darn low during menstruation, so that if I try to use a longer tampon (like a Tampax), the top hits my cervix while the bottom is still low enough for me to experience discomfort from it. Because of this, the brand of tampons I liked best were o.b. tampons, which were shorter than the Tampax tampons.

For a tampon to be fully in, it needs to be past the lowest inch or so of your vaginal opening. This is because that portion of the vagina has lots of nerve endings, which can make having a tampon there uncomfortable. The upper 2/3 or so of the vaginal canal has much fewer nerve endings, so that most people don't feel a tampon in there at all.

So another option might be to see if you can push the tampon a bit further in.

Good luck!

I second this. You might just need a different brand. I prefer Tampax - I've used them since my first period and always loved them, but they are quite long. Some other brands are shorter and might fit your particular vaginal structure more comfortably. I used tampax light days when I first started (12. yrs. old). Make sure you start with the smallest type of whatever brand you use and slide it in until only the string is outside (as in, if you put your finger flat on your vaginal opening with the tampon inserted, you should only feel skin and string - no tampon material).

The thing is, the lower part of the average vagina is very sensitive and has lots of nerve endings, but once you pass that opening, there is generally little feeling. You have to make sure the tampon is past the sensitive part. If you use a tampon with an applicator, make sure to insert the applicator until your fingers touch your inner lips/vaginal opening and not just the outside of your vulva. I don't think I read your earlier post, so I'm sorry if I'm repeating any advice, but it really just takes time. Everyone has a unique vagina, and some women are never comfortable with tampons. You might find that menstrual cups are a better fit for you as far as internal menstrual collection goes.

Agreeing with this--I never understood why people thought tampons were comfortable until I switched from Tampax to o.b. Seems that I just have a pretty short canal. I didn't read your earlier post, but just not seeing it doesn't mean it's all the way in. You have a muscle band inside the opening of your vagina and to not feel the tampon, it needs to be above that, not sticking down into it, or you'll feel it and feel like it's holding you open.

I would not worry to much, really. Every woman is different. I always felt the tampon while it was in, but I could after a bit ignore it. It just takes getting used to.

When I first put in a tampon, I can feel it for the first 5-10 minutes. It feels pretty strange--not bad, but strange. Then I get used to it and don't feel it at all. As long as there's no pain, give it a chance and see if you just stop feeling it after a little bit.

I never felt tampons once they were in, but every one has a different sized vagina.

The first time I put one in, I was so nervous I forgot to remove the applicator. I could definitely feel the tampon then. Did you do leave the applicator in, by chance? The cardboard applicator is to be thrown away once you pull it out (leaving the wad of cotton in your vagina). Sorry if that insults you to ask that question, but just wanted to make sure.

When I used tampons, I'd find that certain brands were more uncomfortable than others. Do you have a short vaginal canal and low cervix? A tampon like OB would be better suited to you. I find that the longer the tampon, the more issues I have with it.

I can feel tampons when they're in. I usually forget about them enough to not think about it constantly, but now and then I notice it again. it's not the absorbant part of the tampon that I feel, I think it's actually the string in the lower part of my vagina. That's my GUESS, anyway. It's always felt like that was it. And I know the tampon is inserted properly and it never hurts or anything, I just feel that very faint sensation of something brushing the inside of my vagina.
