If you could feel it, it might mean that you didn't actually get it in all the way. What makes you sure you did? (This isn't intended to disbelieve you; I'm just wondering if this is might be something that needs further advice.)
Also, it's possible that the particular brand of tampon isn't the right fit for you. I have a short vaginal canal with a cervix that drops pretty darn low during menstruation, so that if I try to use a longer tampon (like a Tampax), the top hits my cervix while the bottom is still low enough for me to experience discomfort from it. Because of this, the brand of tampons I liked best were o.b. tampons, which were shorter than the Tampax tampons.
