So I got my DivaCup in the other day. I put it in while I was in the shower, just to test. It'll take some getting used to, but I know I'll be able to. The only thing is this... How the hell are you supposed to twist the cup all the way around? Once it's in there, I can't grip it well enough to twist it. Also, is there a way to get it to pop open easier? I decided to leave it in while I was in the shower and after moving around for a few minutes I felt a slight pulling sensation and assumed it was the cup fully popping open and creating suction.

This is hard to explain...
instead of folding it twice and holding it tight, I sort of hold it with my thumb and middle finger, and use my first finger to push the cup sort of into itself, and it pops open, for me, with great ease.

Maybe you can figure out what I mean? It is difficult to communicate...

Hi! I'm a DivaCup owner too, and I also had a lot of trouble twisting the darn thing for the longest time. Just hang in there, you'll get the hang of it soon. With some girls, they find they don't need to twist it since it makes a seal on its own (which is the reason you're supposed to twist it in the first place - to create the seal). Some just feel the familiar pop or pull of the Diva opening and they know it's sealed. I've heard suggestions of just running your finger around the perimeter of the cup's base to make sure it's open, just in case (it sometimes works). You'll find out what works best for you.

You might want to join The Menstrual Cup Community (http://community.livejournal.com/menstrual_cups/) here on livejournal. You'll probably find a lot of useful information there, and the girls there would probably be able to answer your question really well!

In [livejournal.com profile] menstrual_cups along the side, there are tags. The tag Diagrams & pictures has some very useful explanations on how to insert it so it pops easier.

A lot of it will probably come with experience. When I first got my cup, I had a hell of a time both twisting it and getting it to pop open, but now it doesn't seem to be that difficult.

In terms of getting it to pop open, sometimes I find that when I'm inserting it, I have to kind of... shove my hand up there with the Diva, otherwise it feels like it's keeping it smushed. >>;

Sorry this isn't more constructive.

Try switching between folding methods until you find one that is most conducive to getting the cup to pop open. Here's a link from [livejournal.com profile] menstrual_cups that might be particularly useful:

someone here on vp once posted a tip for getting the cup to pop open easier. if you rinse your cup with cold water as opposed to warm water, it makes the material a little stiffer and more likely to pop when you let go of it. it gets a little softer if you rinse it with warm or hot water, so it's more likely to stay in the folded position. it's worked pretty well for me.

i've never really been able to twist my cup. i don't know if just seals itself or what, but i've had very minimal leaks, so twisting isn't always necessary.
