let your vagina breathe?

What does it mean to let your vagina breathe? Why do you have to do it? Am I not supposed to wear underwear to bed? I tend to be leaky throughout my entire cycle, so I would think that would be kind of gross...

I never wear underwear to bed at night anymore (I wear soffee shorts if I have my period) and if I'm wearing pants I often go commando. It pretty much rules.
