hello, i'm new, and i've two questions:

1. i suffer from chronic UTIs, and just recently went to the doctor to treat them (before, i wasn't entirely aware of what they were, and so just flushed them out with water). i am now on a week-long, two-day regimine of cipro, and was recently informed by my boyfriend that he has been suffering from painful urination as well. however, he did what i doing before, and just flushed the bastards out.

is it possible that i infected him with the horrible little beasties? i've discovered that UTIs in men are something to be worried about, but he doesn't seem to want to get his ass to a doctor to find out/get medication.

2. after much blistering (too much rough sex) on his penis, one of the blisters developed into a small bump of skin just below the head of it. he is wary of this bump, and believes i gave him an std. :( i did not, though, as i've always had protected sex with std-free people.

what could it be!

thanks. :)

pee ess: sorry about the "clean" thing. ;)

people who have stds are not dirty.

your boyfriend has a possible uti and a suspicious bump on his penis- he needs to go to the doctor.

it's ok- i used to use clean to mean std-free, until i found out i have hpv and then started having to get over feeling dirty and like i was a bad person for potentially having infected my partner.

as for the stubbornness- blisters are never good things: yeast infections on men can sometimes look like herpes, and pretty much anything can lie dormant for a while before becoming apparent. some stds can't be tested for unless you're showing signs that you have them- everytime i ask for a herpes test i'm told that they can only test sores to determine whether one has herpes. so, if someone has never had an outbreak or never had an outbreak tested, it's possible to show up std free at non-outbreak times. not to scare you, but blisters in the genital region are always a reason to go to the doctor.

i've always hated the thought of using sex as a bargaining tool, but if he's refusing to go to the doctor, maybe you should tell him no more sex until he does.

Just so you're aware, condoms won't protect you from HPV, the virus that can cause genital warts. So basicly no matter how careful you are, you are still at risk for STDs if you are sexually active. The only way to be 100% safe is to not do it, unfortunately. Also, there are an amazing amount of people running around with HPV and don't know it, as there is no way to test men for it unless they actually develop warts.

I've read some places that if you've had sex with three or more people, you need to assume you've been exposed to a strain of HPV, because as much as 60% of the sexually active population are carriers.

Just spreading information! Good luck with the infections, what a bummer. As for his bump, sounds like it might be some scar tissue.

Hi,

In VP, part of our safe space policy includes avoiding words like "clean" when taking about being STI-free, because using the word "clean" implies that those with STIs are "dirty". Would you mind changing the wording in your post?

Thanks!

you should also get tested for chlamydia. It can go symptom-less for years (TMI, but my parents gave it to each other in college and didn't even find out until about ten years later -- after myself and my two siblings were born) and can also manifest itself as being similar to a UTI. (speaking from personal experience here!) It is also very very very common, because it doesn't show any symptoms so people don't recognize that they have it.
I say this because your boyfriend is having UTI-type symptoms, and UTIs are very rare for guys, because it takes much more effort for bacteria to travel up the urethra.

it's a weeklong course of antibiotics.. as i remember, the most annoying thing about it is that you can't eat for 2 hours before or after taking the meds, which is annoying for someone like me, who needs to eat constantly!
