I just got Sally Hanson's bikini waxing strips, which I'm not too happy with. This was my first experience with waxing, and the strips barely took any hair off, and just resulted in a lot of pain and redness and me being unable to any more.

Does anybody have any hints/tips or know of any other products that are better? I mean, if it is going to hurt, then I definately want it to work!

P.S. My boyfriend is assisting me with this, since I don't have the courage to pull it off myself or the right angle (:

its next to impossible to get the right angle to wax yourself... that's why you got no hair and a lot of pain. i can't vouch for that product either way, but even the best isn't going to work if you can't do it right. get a friend, and wax each other!

oh. then i guess the product sucks!

go to the beauty supply store and get some real wax then... make sure he's putting it on in the direction of the hair growth, and removing it in the opposite. That's super important.

are you dusting yourself with cornstarch before you use the strip? That should help keep it from sticking to your skin as much.

also take a hot bath beforehand - that way the hair folicles will be a little softer.

yeah, i've used those, and they suck. a lot. you can make it a bit better by holding the skin taught and away from the direction you're pulling the wax off. but they still suck- sticky enough to cause massive pain without removing much hair, and they're too wide to rip off properly.

honestly, not really... i used regular wax that you have to heat up and pull off with cotton strips, and that was sucky too. i don't remember the brand. now i stick with professional waxing when i can afford it or nothing and sometimes shaving when i can't.

same thing happened to me a couple of days ago! i had to stop because of the pain and a strange blotchy pattern that appeared on my legs.

as this was also my first experience with waxing, i don't have any advice... but i do feel your pain.

I prefer having laser hair removal since it hardly hurts at all. But if you prefer to do it yourself, I recommend an epilator (http://www.hairfacts.com/methods/rotary.html). I paid $39 for it about 8 years ago and I'm still using it today (talk about a bargain!). It might sound painful, but over the course of using it, it has become less so. I think the follicles eventually become desensitized because of repeated use. I'm very happy with the cost (which has been basically nothing because I paid for it years ago), the efficiency, and the fact that there is never any mess like there is with wax. Also if you use a mirror to see what you're doing, you won't need anyone to help you. Fast, easy, cheap and no mess.

After I wrote this, I just noticed that they make one just for the bikini area:

I have an epilator for my legs and I haven't used it in ages because it hurts! I can't imagine using it on my bikini line.

Those Sally Hanson wax strips suck! I used them once and had the same experience. I don't have any first-hand reccomendations because that's the only time I've attempted to wax, but I'd think going to a professional if possible would be the best way to go.

I think they work perfectly for eyebrows...but, as bikini waxers, they are useless.

I just tried the Arabian sugar technique from the-clitoris.com (http://www.the-clitoris.com/f_html/shave_t.htm) and it worked pretty good on my legs.

I sacrificed an old T-shirt, but muslin is also reccomended. < lj user="shaved"> has a nice entry about sugaring that I just found, but you need to join the community to view it.

The strips are awful. The best thing you can do is go out & buy an actual home wax kit. It comes with the little wax warmer, wax, & strips. It's like a small salon verson of a wax kit. You can by wax & strip refills & it will basically last you forever. You can get one at Wal Mart or pharmacys & they run around $30-$50. That would be your best bet for home waxing.

Use plenty of cornstarch or baby powder, it really helps the wax not to stick to your skin, and makes yanking it off much less painful.

There's a small window of time to pull the wax off -- if you do it too early, it doesn't take off the hair, and if you wait too long the wax hardens and becomes difficult (and ouchy) to pull off. If it's breaking off in pieces instead of coming off as a strip, you're leaving it on too long. You might want to have your boyfriend practice this on your legs or something first.

the best wax i have found is Surgi-Wax Brazilian Wax Kit....I got it at Wal-Mart, and it worked really well. I went through several different brands before I found this one, and they all sucked!!
And, definitely go with the cornstarch...it makes a lot of difference.
