Contraceptive Foam?

My husband and I are going to try to conceive in late August/early September depending on my ovulation. I have been on the pill for 6 years, and stopped taking it last week. For the next three months I will be tracking my ovulation so that we have a better chance of conceiving when we begin to try at the end of the summer.
So our dilemma for the next three months is birth control. Having the baby three months too soon would mean having to sit out a semester of school, and I just can't do that. As since I'm not sure of my ovulation schedule yet, FAM is going to be hard to do right now. So, I'm leaning towards contraceptive foam. I've read up on it, and it seems like the best bet. It's only about 80% effective, but we're also going to use the old fashion withdrawal method as well (also 80% effective). Condoms irritate me and my husband, so we'd like to avoid them if possible.
So, feed back on the foam? Any other advice?
Thanks!

I use Avanti, by Durex. While it comes in a version with spermicide, I use the one without. I can't use contraceptive foam, unless I *want* to have my vagina and vulva fester, bleed, and swell shut/up to the size of a walrus.

It's recommended that you use spermacide with Lea's Shield (http://www.leasshield.com/) too (which, OP, would be my suggestion!) but I don't know how effective it is by itself vs. w/spermacide.
