Ok! So I made my boyfriend go get me some Monistat 1 with the cream in it for my yeast beast today. So, I just inserted the 'egg'-pill thing, and I'm about to go to bed. I heard some women complain about Monistat being harsh because of the medicine that's jam-packed in there. Would I be affected by this since I'm going to bed?
Alittle background, I started getting itchyness and swolleness around my vagina about 2 days ago. For about a week, I've had a rancid smell around that area. Not so much the discharge, but around my vagina and labia. I looked on the Monistat package and it said if the discharge has a smell, fever, chills, etc, I should see a doctor. Having none of the serious symptoms, I decided I would use it.
So my question is, should I go see a doctor sometime in the next week? I have exams all next week, so I'm going to be pretty busy. And the Planned Parenthood by me stopped walk-ins for exams. But would I need an exam for a yeast infection to find if it is something more serious, like BV?
Thank you so much! :)

Date: 2005-06-04 04:11 am (UTC)You can totally prevent YI from antibiotics using boric acid inserts:

Date: 2005-06-04 06:39 am (UTC)Since you are going to bed & it hasn't disolved yet, I'm not sure if you will have any burning, by the time it disolves you may be asleep. If it does burn though, don't freak out because basically everyone who has used it reports that it burned at least the first time. I know I paniced, thinking I was allergic or something. It's just a strong medicine in a delicate place.
All that said, a bad smell doesn't say YI to me, it sounds more like a bacterial infection. I'd go to the doctor even after using this cream in a few days & get checked out just to make sure.

Date: 2005-06-04 01:38 pm (UTC)For the egg-insert, I didn't feel any burning. I sort of stayed up for an extra half-an-hour before I went to bed. I must have a tough vagina, or it didn't disolve yet.
But, thank you again. :) I'll make an appointment as soon as I can.

Date: 2005-06-04 07:17 pm (UTC)if you're looking for cheap remedies, plain yogurt works very well, and if it's not too bad a douche with apple cider vinegar can work.

Date: 2005-06-04 07:14 pm (UTC)as far as bv vs yi goes, a lot of the natural remedies for yeast infections work on bv as well- acidophilous and yogurt and apple cider vinegar are all good.
