I have a urinary tract infection. and oh holy god does it hurt. I went to the doctor and I'm taking a prescription for it. One of the pills turns my pee blue. Magical urine.
Ouch, I'm sorry! I had one of those a couple years ago -- I dreaded going to the bathroom. I'd have to clench my teeth and grip my pants in my hands, it hurt so bad to pee. Cruel and unusual, is what I call it. My doc put me on some pills, but my pee was still boring old yellow! Lucky, you get blue. :D
Ask your doctor if you can drink cranberry juice (no blends, as little sugar as you can tolerate). This helps urinary health, and may boost your meds.
Oh, and keep a look-out. If you have the same blue-pee inducing pills I had, they're sulfa based. And that's how I found out I'm allergic to sulfa drugs - I broke out in itchy red dots aaaaalllll over. Had to stop the blue-pee drugs early, while itching, and before the UTI cleared up. Soooo a few days later I was back at the doc for the yellow/orange-pee inducing drugs for another 10 days. An itching-and-burning combo that should never be repeated.
I wonder if you were to eat a lot of red beets, would it turn purple? Or what if you ate lots of asparagus, would it become an aqua/teal? Why don't you try that and let us know? Just to pass the time, I mean. :) Hope you feel better anyway; nothing hurts worse.
The dreaded uti- I wish you heaps of luck in feeling better soon!
I dunno if this is a once-ever thing or if you are prone to them (like i am), but I just learned yesterday that you can drink a glass of water with 1/2 tsp of baking soda in it to make them go away (early in the onset). Id been warding them off with cranberry for a while now, but this works so much better.
I probably wouldn't do it with your meds, but if you ever start to get one again, the burning is gone in 15 minutes!
you can also take 3-4 tums with a glass of water if you cannot tolerate the taste of the baking soda, and generally it willw ork about as well as the baking soda.
ahh, yes, the blue pee pills. wonderful things unless you are allergic ( i hope that you are not). seeing it yourself is funny enough, even funnier if someone else finds out, but i will never forget the look on the pre-op nurses face when i handed her a sample for tests. guess she forgot to heed my warning, but she got exceptionally confused then fell down laughing. eh, forgive my ramblings.
i hope the uti is on its way out and you are feeling better.
okay when I was in kindergarten, I had a uti and slept through having to go at naptime, my teacher, to spare me embarassment, went & got my mom who was a teacher, little did she know that there would always be a telltale orange stain on the carpet to tell the truth. I think that they had to replace the carpet that summer. lol!
I have a UTI now and they gave me orange pee pills. It's really weird looking in the toliet and seeing orange pee. Something you CANNOT get used to. I so feel your pain though. I'm miserable!
