So, I was in the grocery store and saw that they just got in the Instead Softcup, so on a wim I bought a 6 pack, deciding to try it. So now, I've just had a rough go at the first time inserting it. So I have a question or two.

Should you be able to feel it within the first two inches of your vagina? I know it's supposed to slide under your pubic bone and under the cervix. I can't feel it inside of me, but it seems like it's not that far up either, as when I reach in I can feel it really quickly. Maybe I just have a funny shaped vagina!

Any pointers or tips would be awesome. I have read all of the packaging material, as well as information on the memories, and on the softcup website.

I find it's almost give-and-take with the Insteads. Sometimes, I have NO trouble inserting them, with the little pinch-the-middle and slip-it-in tactic, and other times it's like it's just not going in any further.

I think it's normal. If you can't feel it and there's no discomfort, I think it's in right. When I use mine, it also feels like it's very close to the opening of my vagina, but there's no way it's going in further!

Hmmm... I'm going to second [livejournal.com profile] barbituratecat's assertion that as long as it's not causing any discomfort, then it's in fine.

Just out of curiousity, though, when you reach into your vagina -- or when you go to insert an Instead -- can you feel the "ridge" (admittedly, a very tiny ridge) your pubic bone makes? Can you feel the Instead go behind that?

For me, inserting an Instead behind my pubic bone is what "locks" it into place. If I don't put it in that far, then it's liable to slip out while I'm up walking around.

I found that my pubic bone was a lot closer to my vaginal opening when I was sitting than I thought it would be (and you're supposed to be sitting when you insert the cup). The best way to position it properly is to find your pubic bone in your vaginal canal and slip the cup up behind it. If it's behind your pubic bone it should be fine, no matter how far in you think it should be.
