The memories don't appear to be working, so I apologize a thousand times if people ask this question all the time. I'm just curious to know if it's common to have bleeding after intercourse.
My boyfriend and I had sex tonight. I went to the bathroom afterwards, and there was a bit of brown blood. There wasn't much at all, though. I mentioned it to him, but I didn't think much of it. I've since come home and been to the bathroom several times since then, and things were fine. But just now, six hours after having sex, there was a considerable amount of blood when I went to the bathroom.
I'm not a virgin, so there was no hymen to be broken. And there was no pain during or after sex. I take birth control, and it's still two weeks until I'm supposed to have my period. Although, they say that the pill can cause breakthrough bleeding, I haven't had a problem with that before.
Is it most likely that he just irritated something inside of me and caused it to bleed? I'm not horribly worried, but I do get a little nervous when blood starts coming out of me when it isn't supposed to. ^_^

Date: 2005-05-26 07:46 pm (UTC)I didn't bleed at all the first time, or a few times after that. My GP ran a few tests and couldn't find a medical reason for the bleeding. I'm going to see a gynecologist after I return from vacation, but I doubt s/he'll find anything, either.
My own opinion is that my vagina is too dry, and the extra friction is making me bleed. We're going to try a lubricant and see if that helps.

Date: 2005-05-27 04:23 am (UTC)i came to a weird, but hopefully true conclusion though.
i was a virgin before this last boyfriend, but i have been seeing a gyno since i don't remember when (well, ok, its about five or six years now). the last time she did a pap smear, she commented on my cervix being kind of irritated and when she poked it with a q-tip, it bled. this was before i became 'devirginized', a month or so before actually. i didn't ask her if this would have any adverse side effects at the time because i hadn't planned on giving up my virginity for a looong time then.
she had said that this was partly caused by the bc (i'm on lo-ovral currently) and by the fact that i wear tampons and had been prior to the appointment. she said the hormones make the cervix a little thinner and easier to irritate or something like that.
so my thought on the subject is, is that birth control kind of makes you more 'easily irritated' in your inner girly bits, which makes you more prone to bleeding and whatnot after strenuous activity (or sex, if you will :P ). also, like someone else said, sometimes not all the blood gets completely out of your uterus before you 'stop' bleeding, and the contractions caused by orgasm can 'push' it out of you.
any way you look at it, it is kind of upsetting and disturbing, i know. my boyfriend wouldn't touch me sexually the rest of the night after he caused me to bleed a few times (he seemed a little too germophobic or something..even though it was kind of his fault in the first place :P ). needless to say, i hated my bod for a bit because of her quirky little surprizes that i had no idea existed.
if it keeps happening, i'd check with your doc though, just to be safe ;)
good luck and sorry for the long reply :>
