The memories don't appear to be working, so I apologize a thousand times if people ask this question all the time. I'm just curious to know if it's common to have bleeding after intercourse.

My boyfriend and I had sex tonight. I went to the bathroom afterwards, and there was a bit of brown blood. There wasn't much at all, though. I mentioned it to him, but I didn't think much of it. I've since come home and been to the bathroom several times since then, and things were fine. But just now, six hours after having sex, there was a considerable amount of blood when I went to the bathroom.

I'm not a virgin, so there was no hymen to be broken. And there was no pain during or after sex. I take birth control, and it's still two weeks until I'm supposed to have my period. Although, they say that the pill can cause breakthrough bleeding, I haven't had a problem with that before.

Is it most likely that he just irritated something inside of me and caused it to bleed? I'm not horribly worried, but I do get a little nervous when blood starts coming out of me when it isn't supposed to. ^_^

If my boyfriend is anything but extremely gentle, I bleed. I'm sure it's not spotting because my period is dark red and sometimes brownish and kind of thick; post-sex bleeding is bright red or pink and very thin, like blood from a cut. It always stops fairly soon, within ten minutes. Sometimes there's just a little bit of pink mixed with his semen (we have unprotected sex because we were both virgins and I'm on BC) and sometimes it's quite red. The amount of blood is pretty directly related to how gentle he was; the deeper/harder/faster he goes, the more blood there is.

I didn't bleed at all the first time, or a few times after that. My GP ran a few tests and couldn't find a medical reason for the bleeding. I'm going to see a gynecologist after I return from vacation, but I doubt s/he'll find anything, either.

My own opinion is that my vagina is too dry, and the extra friction is making me bleed. We're going to try a lubricant and see if that helps.
