Do any of you notice as you get older that your stomach sensitivy is changing? What I mean is this: where you were once able to eat fried foods with no issues you now experience stomach discomfort (to put it lightly) afterwards? I wonder only because I have been gradually experiencing this with not only fried foods but of all things waffles. Maybe its the sugar? I don't know. Anyways if ya'll have experienced or are experiencing it would you let me know? Thanks in advance.

I've started getting heartburn if I have too much onion, especially raw onion.

I hit 30, and got all kinds of issues. LOL

Maybe you are lactose intolerant? I "became" lactose intolerant after 30, and so did my sister. I always thought she was being dramatic until I experienced for myself. I can have hard cheese and butter, but soft cheses, sour cream, milk, yogurt.. all bother me. Even things made with milk will bother me if I had other milk products that day, like cheese. It's tricky.

Also, I started to use food enzymes from the health food store. I guess your body needs a bit of help after a while. :) I find when I take them regularly, I have almost no problems. They give you the enyzemes to digest milk, protein and carbs so that about covers it all. I haven't found much difference in brand or price. Some enzymes have all these herbs in it which I am not sure I need.

Just a suggestion or two and I feel for ya!

I'm not 30+ but I can no longer stomach fried foods, or much of anything with too many unrefined carbs (white bread, sugary stuff). It does a good job of keeping me from eating junk, at least. I think it's because I cut way back on my consumption of fried foods for a while and got unused to it.

Um, I don't mean this in any kind of mean way, but did you intend to post this on [livejournal.com profile] vaginapagina?

I'm not 30 yet, but close enough. Within the last couple of years it has become difficult for me to eat a lot of stuff. Greasy foods go right through me now, spicy stuff gives me nasty heartburn, milk and ice cream make my stomach lurch... it's very not cool. Especially since we're about to order from Pizza Hut, and while I adore the buttery pan crust, I know I'll be in the bathroom within an hour of eating it. I used to have an iron stomach and a superfast metabolism. A few years and 40lbs later and I realize that I can no longer eat the way I used to.

I hit my teenage years and my stomach started going, "WHAT! I will NOT digest that! *explodes*" Especially with dairy. So I guess it can happen at pretty much any time. A similar thing happened to two of my friends, so now we're like the bad-stomach muskateers.

i'm not yet 30 (27 in about two weeks, actually), but i've started having sensitivity issues to a number of foods, most significantly acidic ones (tomatoes, pineapples, citrus fruit), and also to, sadly, wine, beer, and lambic. that's what really makes me cry-- i love beer and cider and especially lambic. i have a hard time drinking anything except mixed drinks now 'cause it gives me such nasty heartburn.

I'm 23, and I've noticed that in the last year or so suddenly late night trips to Denny's with friends for milkshakes and hash browns do not agree with me the way they did in college just two years ago. Sad to say!

Yep! 26 now. At 21, I could stomach most foods with no ill-effects whatsoever. Now, I have reduced tolerance towards high sugar, high fat, high oil, too much chile. 'Tis sad.

It's possibly your gall bladder. It feels like stomach discomfort and it typically gets worse as women get older especially with eating fatty foods. I didn't have too many problems until about 35 (I'm 41) and then at 38, I had what I thought was a few months of heartburn only to have an attack of pain which turned out to be gall stones. I had to have emergency surgery to have it removed.

They say that the three "f's" Female, Forty, Fat(s) are the three factors most common in gall bladder problems.

The most common solution is having your gall bladder taken out. Definitely check with your doctor.

Keeping a log is a good idea because eventually if you have to go to the doctor, you can show them what your triggers are and they can make a better diagnosis.

You're welcome for the info. You could also look up information on gall bladder problems on the internet to see if any of it sounds familiar. Good luck!

forgot to add that with gb problems, they do typically get worse if you ignore them...yikes!

I had the exact same happen to me- but I was only 20 and skinny! The doctors said it was a mystery and my entire life I've been healthy as a horse- I had never been to this hospital before when this happened. However, I did read somewhere that Native Americans are more prone to gallstones- which I am, so maybe that had something to do with it. Anyway just wanted to add that.

I don't know about thirty, as I won't turn 30 until next month, but I can tell you that I hit my mid-twenties and started having all kinds of food related issues that I'd never had before-especially with raw vegetables, which are a big part of what I eat. (I still eat them, I just know my bathroom schedule really really well.) Greasy things too, affect me in a different way sometimes, as does dairy and soy, and MSG. It settled down, or something, after a couple of years, or maybe I just started eating differently and don't notice it as much.

It could also be soy, which triggers a lot of digestive unhappiness for me. I can have minimal soy sauce, but most of the soy products, like TVP or tofu make me and the bathroom really good friends. Red peppers, which I love as well as mushrooms can really mess with me as well.

It's a shame that my body is so rebellious.

well fried food isn't good for you anyways, so i'm sure after years of eating it, your stomach's going to be kind of angry at you.

Not 30, but close...haven't really noticed anything yet. The waffles do sound a little unusual but I guess I can see it as they are sort of heavy. Although is it all waffles? Is there a chance if it is just really recently and you use a mix you could have just gotten a bad box or something, lol? Anyway, good luck, and if it gets way worse go to the doctors, but you know that!

I'm only 19, so nowhere near 30+ yet, but just in the last year or so I've suddenly started having trouble with anything greasy, and getting "upset stomach" or heartburn at random times. In high school I used to have a coke and doritos every day for breakfast, with near constant junk food all day. Now that's NOT an option. My mom said that women's bodies just tend to go through phases, so sometimes you might be constipated for like a year and then have diarrhea issues instead. Granted, she's just my mom, a pastor's assistant, not a doctor, but it sounded reasonable to me. Our bodies change a lot, no?

I spent my entire childhood being told that "Mommies know everything" and despite the irrationality of it, I've never quite broken myself of the belief. ^_^
