Hi there lovely ladies! My name is Michelle, I have been an avid watcher of this fabulous page for quite a while and am so happy that a space like this exists (as well as the riot grrls journal.)

I have been worried about my Wonderful Little Woo for about three months now. I stopped taking the pill in October after taking it for 3 years. My periods almost immediately went back to normal, starting with the full moon each month. Sounds great, right? Well...

For the past three periods something weird has been happening. I will have my period for about 2 days, then it STOPS completely (no blood) for about 24 hours, then starts up again and I will bleed for about 3 more days. Has this happened to anyone before? Is this normal? What the hell is going on?

Thanks girls! *smooch*

That is normal for me. I bleed like crazy for 2 days, stop for a day, then restart lightly for 3 days. It's been that way for about 3 years.

this has happened to me, both when i was off of the pill, and on it. i'm on the pill at the moment (orthotricyclen), and this happens. it may not be 24 hours of no blood... it's more like, 12 or 16... but it still happens to me. i'm not sure what causes this, but i'm sure you're fine.

That happens to me, too, and I'm taking Loestrin. It's been happening for the last 6 months or so, before I was on Loestrin... kinda annoying because you never know when it's going to start back. :P

I've had friends who have had this same stopping and starting thing with their periods - I think it is fairly common.
I really believe that it is natural for our periods to fluxouate and change, be shorter or longer, etc. regardless of this myth that we get fed about the concrete 28 day cycle. I think that's a load of bull. Everywoman will have a shorter or longer or non-predictable cycle. Our bodies are not bound by some human-made scheduele. I bet a variety of things influence our cycles like: food, mood, stress, lunar cycles, weather, temperature, geographical location, drugs we're on. No wonder they are hard to pin down!
I hope it doesn't seem like I am ranting at you :) Your question is totally valid, and a good one! I've just always been a bit irked by 28 day "Normal" cycle with 3-5 days of bleeding that the "You're becoming a WOman" pamphlets and doctors tend to feed us. I think I've gone off on a bit of a tangent here.. Basically my point is that I think we should give our bodies a bit more room to do their own thing, even if it doesn't always make sense to us. :)

Mine used to do that consistently. Bleed for 2-3 days, stop for a day (sometimes two), then bleed for 2-3 more... giving me a seven- or eight-day cycle. Joy.
It doesn't any more. ::shrug::

Nothing strange about the bleeding pattern. I have mine for two days...it stops for one...then come backs for one or two days. Mine has been this way since I started 13 years ago.

I just have a quick question - since you're a new member you'd be able to help me... I want to be a member - so I can post - how did you go about joining??

In case nobody's gotten around to telling you yet :)... IIRC, you go to the member info at the top, click on that, and at the top is a link saying "click here to join" or words to that effect. Do so, then follow the prompts... *smile*

I've always been like this, since I started. 2 days on, about 12-18 hours off, and 3 days on. Go figure LOL
