It's not really supposed to hurt if you do it the "traditional" way or if it is removed simply because of other reasons...such as being a gymnist, it may tear just from that!
Why do you regret losing it the "traditional" way? And if it's removed are you asking because you are curious or are you asking for some else?
b) All girls are different. It hurt like hell when my hymen was ripped, and I didn't stop bleeding for days. Other girls may have thinner hymens, and less pain. Virtually everyone I've talked to agreed that there was some pain.
... yeah, but in the case of someone with an unusually thick/tough hymen, it can be real bad. *shrug* not the common state of things, no (mine didn't seem to be, tampons were a pain at first but eventually the whole thing got more "normal" and I assume that's the way it is with most people) but it does happen.
I had the surgery done back in 1995 because my GYN tried to to an exam (my first ever) and she couldn't even get a pinky in there because the Hymen was so thick.
Some women have such thick/closed hymens that they CAN'T lose it the "traditional" way. Fingers, penises, tampons, whatever -- aren't strong enough to break it. These are usually the cases that go to the surgery room.
Because...

Mine was removed in the 'traditional' way, and I regretted it.
