I'm writing about my sister today because she has an LJ but isn't able to get online regularly. She knows I'm asking and gave me permission.

My sister is 24 years old. 5 feet 1 inches. She is underweight at 85-89 pounds. She does not have an eating disorder. She has always been really thin and there are family issues that take too long to discuss but contribute to the fact that she doesn't have the best access to food, and the only food she does have access to is pretty healthy so it doesn't exactly pile on enough calories to remain after she works at her somewhat strenuous job.

Anyhow, she stopped taking the pill back in October 1998. She never had very regulated periods until she was on the pill. Since she has gotten off of it, the only periods she has had have been the brown stuff that usually comes at the end of the period. The brown "period" lasts for 7 days, give or take a day. She has it every month but not exactly at regular intervals.

The only exception to the above was back in March 2009. She had unprotected sex with her new boyfriend. She thought she was late (but it is hard to tell because her period is so irregular anyway) and then she had a very heavy, normal red period that lasted the normal (pill normal) 5 days. The cramps were worse than they usually were. Since then, she has not had another red, 5 day long period. All she has had are the brown 7 day periods.

So does any of this sound familiar to anyone? Is the brown period the last stop before the loss of a period due to extremely low body weight?

Thanks all you wonderful people!

I'm really paranoid and freaked out right now and I hope this is okay to post here...but.. I had anal sex a few hours ago, for the first time. I felt absolutely fine with it, we used plenty of lube, I was relaxed. No pain whatsoever. We were a few minutes in, and he was going kind of hard..but again..no pain and he knew what he was doing. All of a sudden he pulled out and there was blood on himself. We both freaked out and I was completely mortified and embarassed and ran to the bathroom. After cleaning up and kind of self examining, there was no blood to be found. I've had cuts on the outside prior with shaving and whatnot..not internally, but it never really gave me any problems. There are still no signs of blood and it's been a good 5 hours.

Is it common for something internal to open up and bleed during anal? Maybe it was something around the opening from shaving that cut open? Ugh this is so embarrassing.

Today, I was diagnosed with BV. The doc gave me a triamcinolone cream to put on my vulva and the affected areas, to relieve itching, pain, and burning (she also gave me legit meds).

Every time I smear the cream down there, it sort of burns at first. Instinct tells me not to use something that feels wrong, but I do know that a licensed gynecologist said it was safe.

So, Dr LJ, what's the story with my vag? Why is the cream feeling weird- is that from tenderness from the infection itself, or am I doing more damage every time I stop the itching?

Hi

For the last few weeks I've been experiencing a lot of abdominal pain. It's not constant, but at least a couple of times a day I'll have severe, sharp pain in my lower abdomon. It's nothing like menstrual cramps. Sometimes it seems to follow uriniation, but not always. It sometimes hurts (but doesn't sting) or feels difficult to urinate. Sometimes my vulva feels pretty sore.

I drink a lot of water and have been taking daily cranberry tablets, but these don't seem to have had an affect. I'm on HBC but have been taking microgynon on and off for a number of years without any problems.

I saw a nurse last week who was unsure what was wrong with me. A urine sample came back negative. I'm in England and at my surgery getting a doctors appointment is incredibly difficult. Here smear tests are only done on over 25s (I'm 21). I'll keep trying to see a doctor, but I was wondering if this sounded familiar to anyone, or if anyone had any advice? I really don't like having to take painkillers everyday.

Thanks!

This may be a long shot, but here goes...

I'm having an inguinal hernia repair surgery next week (it's located on the upper right of my "mound"). I'm just wondering how long I'll have to wait in order to have sex again. I know to ask my doctor when the surgery date comes, but I'm just getting some personal accounts right now. Have any of you had that type of surgery? Did you have to wait long to have sex again?

I hope it doesn't interfere with things too much :(

When you're turned on and in a situation where you'd rather not be, how do you get your libido to calm down? Thinking of baseball doesn't seem to be working... ('course that might be because I couldn't care less about baseball.)

Hello VPer's!

I'm 22, and still a virgin. Have never actually been in a relationship. Just wondering about a couple things.

Firstly - Last week I went to the gynecologist, as I was referred by my Dr to check out some pain I've been having in my right side (as I've already seen my regular dr., and a gastroencologist, so he thought a gynecologist might know what was up). Didn't end up really helping my problem much, as she basically wanted to do a vaginal exam and pap test to see if everything was normal.
Anyway, my regular Dr. usually asks if I'm sexually active at my yearly check-up, and when I say I'm not he says I don't need a pap test until I am - so this was my first one - and I was not prepared for it at all.

BUT, it was not a good experience for me at all. She wasn't even able to do the pap test because the speculum was actually hurting me (as I was too tense). Just wondering if this is normal? Has this happened with anyone else? Whenever I've read about pap tests on here, it seems like everyone says it can be "uncomfortable", and that's it. The gynecologist says for me to try again with my regular Dr. in six months (for the record, she did say everything looked normal).
Is there anything I can do so there's no pain next time?

And my second issue. Masturbation. I've never done it. I find this a little weird, and am wondering if this is part of the above problem. How do I start, and get more comfortable with my own body down there? I find it uncomfortable just to stick my finger in there.

I'm just feeling a little uneasy after the gynecologist appointment - because I'm thinking - what if sex is painful like that? I want to be able to have sex one day! That seems hardly possible with how I'm feeling right now..

Thanks in advance for any opinions/advice!

VP, halp!

I posted just last week about my white discharge that was bleaching my undies.

Well, it seems that THIS week, my normal, healthy discharge has decided to turn into sticky, brown sludge. My period is not for two weeks, when I take out my NuvaRing. This discharge also smells a bit different than normal: strong and pungent.

There is no itching or discomfort.

What's wrong here, VP?
Thanks in advance!
