oookkkaay.

so last week, my vag started feeling a bit strange. slightly irritated, but nothing big. i started taking acidophilus every day to counteract anything bad that may be going on. then it started getting really super itchy and dischargey and things, so i figured i had a yeast infection (i've had them before). i used an otc remedy, the ovule 3day kind. i finished the treatment saturday night, and my period started sunday. my downstairs was feeling better by then, so i figured everything was clear and away we go.

which brings me to tonight. i used a tampon earlier to go swimming, and after that things started feeling funny again. it's still kind of burning right around the urethral entrance, and it's getting really obnoxious. i'm thinking a uti maybe? maybe.

so now the questions.

what are the giveaway symptoms of a uti? can i see a doctor while on my period, or should i wait till it's over (probably not till saturday or so.) ? could it be something else? maybe the yeast isn't all the way gone? or maybe just irritation from tampon use?

also, i don't use scented pads, and i've changed mine a bunch of times today.

god. what a pile of tmi. but i trust you guys.

thanks in advance!

*saturday.. i wipe after peeing and see pink..like the very beginning of my period..so it's a week early..oh no biggie..it's irregular..i deal...(just weird because my boobs didn't get uber sore like they usually do)....anyways..pop in a tampon..and go to bed..take it out the next morning..and there is barely anything..and today..NOTHING?!...and i'm still pms-ing ..boobs are starting to get pms-sore..so ..what the hell was that...a ..warning sign? i have never had that happen! (my period is actually due the 7th or 8th)...i am sexually active..the boy and i use condoms nothing else..so there is always a slight chance i could be pregnant. (i'm not too worried..i'll take a preg test after the 8th just to calm my hypochondriac self down.....just ..it's really weird. )

*also has anyone had problems getting a prescription for plan B over the phone from their doctor? I am 27 so i can buy it without..but my insurance will not cover it unless it's a prescription (plus i save $15) I would like to have it around just in case.

*~*~*~*thanks in advanced. everyone here is always so helpful.*~*~*~*~*

Hi everyone, I have a couple of things I wanted to ask. They're separate but related, sort of, so I hope it's okay to post them at the same time.

I'm kind of seeing this guy from work (I posted about him the last time, in my first post here, although I don't expect anyone to remember that of course) and we've come to the conclusion we're going to to be friends with benefits. Or maybe even just go out sometimes but not be in an exclusive relationship. This is fine with me because I'm only in this city till October, and also I'm not really interested in a relationship - I'm enjoying my freedom to meet any guys I want, and I think that's okay. What I wanted to ask was how anybody else found having a friends-with-benefits arrangement? How did you do it and did you manage to be okay with it? I'm fine with it now, you see, but I've never done it before and I would like to avoid any potential issues or awkwardness in the future. We haven't slept together, but I think we probably will sometime soon (and I'm not that experienced, so again, bit nervous about that although I do want to do it eventually).

Second thing I wanted to ask was: we've been talking on Facebook about sex... well, HE has and I've been trying to talk about other stuff half the time, LOL. (We work together but we're not able to talk at work and certainly not about this, so FB seems to be where we discuss stuff.) He was asking if I was on the pill and I said no (I'd rather not be on it unless I really had to be, or I was in a long-term relationship - I'm worried about taking things I don't really need) and then he asked if I would take a morning-after pill and again I said no, because I don't want to. I pointed out I wouldn't have sex with someone without a condom, and he said that okay that was fine but that he didn't trust them and he'd still pull out before he was finished in case something happened. Now, I guess on one level that's responsible(?) but on another, I don't know, is it weird that I think I'd rather he didn't? I always thought the guy would finish inside and well, the thought has been nice (although I don't know what it feels like). Am I being strange, or is this something people do a lot and I shouldn't be offended or whatever by it? I'm not sure it's offended, actually, just bemused and unsure. I would appreciate some thoughts on this, too.

Once again, everyone in this comm is great and I'd be grateful for any advice on either or both of these wee topics. Thank you!

I need to settle this for a friend.

Friend A - has genital herpes, has not had an outbreak in over five years
Friend B - free of the virus

Friend A uses towel to dry her body. An hour later Friend B uses that same towel.

Is it possible for Friend A to infect Friend B with the virus.

Thank you in advance.

I thought this might be of interest here: a blog of cervical photos taken daily over an entire cycle.

OBVIOUSLY explicit and not safe for work.

Hi All,

Does anyone else use the vcf film? I like it because it isn't as messy as a gel. Im just wondering though... does anyone have any feedback on how it might taste? Or, whether or not its safe to injest...

Basically I've always had pain in relation to sex. However in June 2007 I had a Bartholin Cyst removed, and I thought that when it healed I would be better. However, since then strange things keep happening over the Bartholin gland. For example I thought the lump was back, only to have it burst and feel like I was peeing myself in work. This happened a few times but whenever I told the gyno, she looked it over and said it looked fine (?).
However while having oral my boyfriend has found that over the area the Bartholin cyst was removed, has turned purple and black - about the size of a penny. It's just slightly inside my vagina about an inch. Now this happened before, but it went away by the time I could get an appointment with my gyno (usually takes about 3 months). However, this has stayed for months now and I'm fearing something else is wrong. I'm planning on making an appointment today, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with it.

Thank you either way.

I've been sexually active for almost a year now, and recently we've been having a few problems.

In a good deal of positions we've tried, I experience a weird pain during sex. Where I will feel (although I don't think this is right) a feel in my ovary? xD It's just in that general area. If he goes too hard/fast it hurts so bad. So we end up doing the same old thing, or have to go slow.

There's also times where I feel really gassy, but it's not like.. y'know, digestive system, I ate too much beans gas. It feels more of where I get period cramps. I guess that could be explained with him pulling out enough to push air up in there.

I'm scared it's something like a cyst or something. I hope not! :D

Thanks for any advice. <3

This is actually just a curiosity question because I've been thinking about it lately.

Unfortunately the majority of my endo is on my bladder so when it flares up I start having issues with pain and peeing and all that fun stuff.

I've only had one UTI in my life so far (thank god) but it gave me the exact same symptoms as my endo: pain with urination (bladder pain, not so much urethra. That only happened when I started antibiotics), not peeing a lot when I go, pressure that makes me feel like I have to pee a lot. So when I had it I didn't recognize it as something different and wrong and let it go until I woke up in the middle of the night screaming in pain because of my kidneys.

So now I'm paranoid as all get out about contracting another UTI, especially since I still have no idea what caused the one (wiping habits haven't changed in 20 some odd years, I've stopped wearing thongs, I didn't have PIV sex, no sex at all actually). Is there anything I can do to try and stave off a UTI in the future? Kinda like taking vitamin C to keep colds away- it probably won't do a damn thing once I get one but it's safe enough to do every day and it might help keep them at bay. I really don't want to let an infection go for that long again but I simply don't have the money for copays every time my bladder twinges.

(Obviously my endo's acting up which is making me think about this. A big thank you to everyone who helped with ideas for my irritation and never ending period- it finally ended and I can sit normally now. ^_^ But the cramps just won't go away and keep getting worse. DX I'm starting to really hate POPs.)

Thanks!

what are the chances of getting pregnant if you have unprotected sex but he doesn't finish inside of you? meaning he cums elsewhere (not pulling out but finishing through oral) -- is there a big risk? i know sometimes precum contains sperm if he ejaculated prior and didn't pee...

i've been wondering this for awhile. lol sorry if its kind of random.

Ever since the last time i had sex (about a week and a half ago) the area near and including my urethra have been very itchy. Theres no burning or actual pain, just annoying itchiness. My pee is cloudy maybe once a day, and the only unusual thing about my discharge is that the smell is a bit off. I've also been experiencing bad nausea and stomach cramps and that could possibly be related. Anyone have any idea whats going on?

So, I read this article today where a woman was able to donate a kidney via her vagina.

"Although the procedure has been previously done to extract cancerous and nonfunctioning kidneys that threatened a patient's health, the January 29 surgery was the first time it was done for donation purposes, the center said in a news release issued Monday.

"The kidney was successfully removed and transplanted into the donor's niece, and both patients are doing fine," Dr. Robert Montgomery, chief of transplant surgery at Johns Hopkins, said in the release.

The surgery is considered less invasive and could pave the way for an increase in organ donations, it added.

"Removing the kidney through a natural opening should hasten the patient's recovery and provide a better cosmetic result," Montgomery said.

And the first thing I thought was HOW THE HELL did they get past the uterus? That seems awfully invasive to have to detatch the uterus somehow. It even got me worried that my seeming confidence of anatomy was wrong and the uterus wasn't attached to the cervix fully or something and could be disconnected or bypassed somehow.

But it's only very marginally mentioned that the woman had a hysterectomy, which facilitated this process.

Very interesting - kind of odd to think it would increase the amount of organ donations though, don't you think? I would think that most organ donations would occur primarily after death, if a person is an organ donor, or if a relative needed an organ that you could spare, and therefore wouldn't mind a scar on your back or a few days or healing and recouperation. I have no idea.

Then it got me thinking about hysterectomies. I would like to understand the process better (as it may be a process I undergo later in life, as I have a history of uterine cancer in my family). What happens to the cervix? Is it closed permanently?

This article is quite misleading as they say they just inserted a bag into the woman's vagina and got to the kidney from there. One person commented that it might contribute to young men's fears of the vagina just being this vast, unending, open passage into blank space or something.

Thoughts?

Hi,

Can someone tell me if the progestrone in Plan B is much higher than the progestrone in POPs. I am think of going on POPs but am not sure, because when I took Plan B my sex drive disappeared for 3 or 4 days, so I don't want that to happen on POPs.

Also is the progestrone level the same in POPs as well as the nuvaring or any other form of birth control?

Thanks

OK this is my back story:   http://community.livejournal.com/iud_divas/1603608.html

OK so I had my Mirena removed November 26, I didn't bleed or spot until the 28. And then I bled trough a super tampon within 30 minutes which i never did before (sorry TMI) It lightened up then lasted like a normal period for me. I normally would have had a 28 day cycle or so. I am now on day 67 and no sign of period starting any day soon. and I KNOW i am not pregnant.  Just want to know if this happened to anyone else after they got their mirena out.

I posted this in IUD divas a while ago and no one had any advice. *Bummer*  the clinic i go to won't do anything until they get three negative Pregnancy tests and i have to pay an $18 copay each time. I can buy i ton of home ones for that!!! I am NOT made of money!!  I thought of going to a new ob/gyn that i found out my insurance covers but I can't go until i am due for my next Annual, which is not until June!!!   ERRRRRGGGGG!!! what is going on with my body!!! I got the mirena out so i could get my cycles going regular so i can keep track of my fertility but i can't do that until I at least have one period. please if anyone has ANY advice I am at a complete loss and extremely frustrated!!

Hey VPers!

My school doctor today informed me of an insertion trick for the Nuvaring :).

Empty a tampon applicator and pinch the ring, then poke it through the top of the applicator till it's where the tampon used to be. Insert like tampon. :)

Voila! Easy insertion!

I was wondering if someone could help me understand my body, haha...

Okay. When I watch porn, I get stimulated and wet. I rub my clit until I climax. After I climax, I don't feel like masturbating afterwards -- I get this tingly feeling down there if I try, and I'm usually put off by that.

When I don't watch porn and decide, "Hey, I need to relax," I'll rub my clit. However, I don't get wet! I'll get into the motion, I'll climax and I will be able to do it two, or three more times before I doze off. I don't get that tingle feeling afterwards.

Umm, could anyone explain what's going on? Anyone else get like this?

I have quite a large patch of broken skin along my outer labia and it's been bugging me since Saturday. I got (too) drunk on Friday, but was with my boyfriend the whole time and we didn't have sex, and I had no sexual contact with anyone else.

The wound is slightly smaller than a dime when I pull gently at the surrounding skin to expose the (wound? cut?), and it becomes thinner as the cut (I guess) proceeds toward my anus.

There has been no itching, it does not look like a sore, and I haven't had sex in a bit over a week. Both my boyfriend and I are STI-free.

Any ideas on what this might be, superstars? Is it really just a cut or tear?

UTI?

Hi. I've been peeing alot (mostly at night) and lower back pain on my left side so i went to my doctor to give a urine sample to see if it is a uti on a fri and the nurse told me the results would be in by monday, so i called monday and talked to my doctor and she said it wouldn't be in for 7-10 days. Is that a normail wait? im not very comfortable with waiting that long.
